Mine still hasn't come back (3 months on) and no one I know who has had covid has got theirs back either. I need some hope, feeling pretty drained by it now Sad

I lost of taste and smell quite suddenly on day 4 or 5 and after a couple of days it slowly started to improve. It was gradual though - probably about 6 weeks or so before it was completely back to normal.

JanglyBeads · 28/12/2021 14:53

Yes

Onegingerhead · 28/12/2021 15:00

Mine came back fully after 5-6 days. From talking to people there are two scenarios as it seems. You either can get it back very fast, or it can take ages and may not comeback 100%. I d say about 10% I know that had COVID fall into the second category

YungWaffle · 28/12/2021 15:19

I had covid last week and I had a reduced sense of smell for an evening (I might just not have noticed it before then) but it was back to normal by the following day.

HesterShaw1 · 28/12/2021 17:08

I had Covid in August and both taste and smell were back within a few weeks. DP is 28 days post infection and still can't taste some things and has totally gone off meat and dairy

DPotter · 28/12/2021 17:11

I had COVID back in March 2020. My taste and smell is still not right - maybe 90% back to normal. Some scents are still not there, eg toilet duck and bleach. Have to be right over the loo to get a whiff whereas both could smell at 50 paces

murcimari · 28/12/2021 17:22

yes, smell and taste never fully went but then again I was taking daily doses of vit D and zinc over a year prior to getting covid and was on even higher dosages during the illness. Back to maintenance levels now and no issues with any of my senses. Fatigue was also not a major symptom for me when having delta, but I was told taking vit B (especially B3) really helped with that. I really believe that prepping your body for illness (even if it is just for a couple of months) helps a great deal.

samwitwicky · 28/12/2021 17:24

Yes, me

StampOnIt · 28/12/2021 17:28

Mine came back pretty much as soon as other symptoms went, so only lost them for a couple of weeks.

oldtableleg · 28/12/2021 17:30

I didn't lose mine (nor did the 3 family members who had it at the same time)!

Rainbowabacus1 · 28/12/2021 18:12

Mine took 6 weeks to come back fully.

snugglyblanket · 28/12/2021 18:52

I had covid about 6 weeks ago. Felt fluey for a could of days and fully lost taste & smell for about 4 weeks. Both senses are still very dull, only partially returned, and it seems to get worse when I'm tired. And I also get the random smells, particularly smoke.

Also struggle with fatigue but that's easing off a bit now.

mamaduckbone · 28/12/2021 20:26

I had it in September and mine has - took a few weeks but completely back to normal now

BillGigolo · 28/12/2021 20:46

Me. I had it a year ago and my sense of taste and smell are fine now. There’s the occasional bad smell which seems a bit off (mainly strawberry scented stuff, for some reason) but other than that, normal. Same for my parents. My poor DH had it at the same time and still hasn’t properly recovered his.

spiderlight · 28/12/2021 22:58

I had covid in mid-November. Taste and smell started to come back after about two weeks and are 99% back now, but tea still tastes like soggy cabbage, which is really getting me down because I bloody love tea. I have boxes and boxes of different brands in the kitchen and am seriously considering buying a new kettle if it doesn't resolve, out of pure desperation!

Angrymum22 · 29/12/2021 14:24

Had Covid Feb2020 and sense of smell took 3+ months to rerun. Had delta in September this year and sense of smell went for about 2pms, now fully returned.

ILoveHuskies · 01/01/2022 22:30

Everyone who I know who had it theirs came back

I'm about 10'days into losing mine and I'm honestly so fed up of it 😢

Yoyokitten · 25/02/2022 09:55

I wonder how Covid does actually affect taste and smell?
I'm on day 8 and feeling much better, had 2 negative lateral flow tests too.
However still have no sense of smell. It makes me feel paranoid, I keep sniffing things including the cat who normally smells quite sweet... He's a very clean cat.I can taste food normally but drinks, any drinks hot or cold taste weird like warm bah water.Just hope it does come back

Moominsarelife · 28/02/2022 01:58

I had covid in July last year at 38 weeks pregnant in a heatwave so id just stocked up on loads of icecreams, DH had it and my first 'proper' symptom was losing my taste and smell! Came back after about 10 days! I can't stans the taste or smell of mint now though, DH chews gum all the time and it makes me gip!

TenoringBehind · 28/02/2022 14:00

I only know one person who hasn’t had it come back fully.

TokyoSushi · 28/02/2022 14:05

I only had it about 4 weeks ago, I'd say it's about 80% returned.

Pearmain · 28/02/2022 14:30

Mine came back, then I had my booster and lost it again, smells and tastes have either not come back at all or are horribly distorted. It’s been six weeks now since my booster and no sign of things getting any better…

Whyevencare · 28/02/2022 15:42

I had covid earlier this month (unjabbed). Lost taste and smell around day 9 for a week or so. All back to normal now Smile

JanglyBeads · 28/02/2022 16:55

Thousands of people regain their sense of taste and smell very quickly - thousands more don't ever lose it, especially with omicron, don't worry

DinaofCloud9 · 28/02/2022 16:57

I got mine back after a couple of days. I don't know anyone who hasn't got it back.
