Mine still hasn't come back (3 months on) and no one I know who has had covid has got theirs back either. I need some hope, feeling pretty drained by it now Sad

Positive story here!
I had covid in the summer, taste and smell disappeared completely for about a month, it started coming back gradually after that and 5 months on its fully back to normal!

Millie50 · 08/12/2021 16:24

Yes, at around 3 months. That's often how long it takes damaged nerve endings to repair I believe? I had the same with a bad cold once and it took 3 months then too.
I don't have any weird smells now. At 3 months it was fully normal again.

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/12/2021 16:27

Mine came back after about 2-3 weeks

SW1amp · 08/12/2021 16:29

Mine was 95% back at 6 weeks, but the final 5% took another few months
All fine now though

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 08/12/2021 16:52

I had COVID in January but didn't lose my sense of smell or taste.

Sorry if this info is if no use to you.
I hope you get yours back soon.

sweetpaws · 08/12/2021 17:14

Thanks all this is sounding promising!

Me. And it didn’t take long either.

My brother on the other hand is now 4 months down the line.

moregarlic · 08/12/2021 17:31

I had it, no vaccine, lost taste and smell for around 12 days. Back to normal after that. I hope it comes back soon OP, it was the worst bit for me!

Nevertime · 08/12/2021 17:51

I lost my sense of smell completely, I literally couldn't smell shit Grin but it only lasted 24 hours and then all back to normal.

Siameasy · 08/12/2021 19:42

Had Covid in August and only lost smell for a few days it is all normal now

HELPNEEDHELP12398765 · 08/12/2021 19:45

I had covid 2 months ago and now have my smell and taste back fully. It took about 4 weeks for me.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 08/12/2021 19:51

YES! All fine now - positive test result on 2nd November, lost taste and smell on same day a bit, totally gone a couple of days later. Was all back middle of last week.

Nice/warm smells came back first, so keep sniffing out for things like shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil - soaps basically. Fart smells came back last.

Taste - even last weekend a dhansak was the only thing that tasted 'normal', everything now fine.

Aliwali77 · 08/12/2021 20:13

I had it in August and completely lost lost both taste and smell. They both came back fully within a month. I really feel for anyone whose hasn’t, it’s really not nice.

BlowDryRat · 08/12/2021 20:14

Me. I had covid at the beginning of October, lost both taste and smell and then it came back a bit odd. It was completely back to normal by mid-November.

kowari · 08/12/2021 20:15

Yes, back fully in two weeks.

GandTisgoodforme · 08/12/2021 20:18

I'm on day 12 of loss of taste/smell (positive for COVID 25th November) and I'm now starting to regain some smell and taste. I can't smell 'bad' smells much at all, and I can't smell people (like my toddler's natural scent)... But it's slowly coming back day by day. I have a phantom waft of cigarettes when I'm tired or late at night. Taste is an odd one, very vague flavour of some things, some not at all and my bacon sandwich tasted like salty stale cake yesterday...
There is hope, although I understand it's proper disorientating and rather horrible!

Thethingswedidanddidntdo · 08/12/2021 20:19

Mine took about 3 months to come back fully. My brother's took even longer. Have hope OP Flowers

LegoPandemic · 08/12/2021 20:21

Yes. My smell went and taste dulled and it was back within a couple of weeks.

pumpkinpie01 · 08/12/2021 20:22

Mine came back within a week , it was like a cold was coming for a day and that was it . I was very lucky .

Fireworksatforty · 08/12/2021 20:23

Mine came back after about a week. My husband took longer; around a couple of months for sense of smell to return.

Whistleforthechoir · 08/12/2021 20:24

All four of us had covid a few months ago. Three of us lost our sense of smell and taste. We all got it back within a week-10days.

I don't actually know anyone who didn't get it back within a fortnight

Stiffcondomhat · 08/12/2021 20:26

Yes, mine came back after 2/3 weeks.

PollyPepper · 08/12/2021 20:28

Mines back fully now, lost it completely for about 8 days.

Bananarice · 08/12/2021 20:30

Dm lost her sense of smell for 6 months and it returned gradually for her.

southlondoner02 · 08/12/2021 20:53

Yep, after about 10 days. No lingering problems with wierd tastes/ smells at odd times either.

They were doing such research at UCL about this - taking brain scans of people who got their taste and smell back and those that didn't to compare. Not sure if the research is still ongoing
