Although nobody has actually told me personally - I only know because my contacts (including DH and DC) have been contacted by T&T and told.
Took test on Tuesday, positive result on Wednesday, T&T follow up today.
I have ruined a lot of people’s plans
Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/12/2021 15:31
You haven't ruined anything. A virus will do what a virus does. I hope you're feeling OK.
minipie · 03/12/2021 15:32
Ah bugger. Not your fault. And at least you/they’ll be out of isolation by Christmas.
In a month or so I suspect it will be the standard variant and will be treated like Delta is now so you’ve been unlucky to be one if the first to get it.
Hope you are feeling ok?

Sorry to hear this :-( where abouts in the UK are you?
MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 03/12/2021 15:34
Eh? How have you ruined the plans? It’s a virus that’s affecting thousands.
PatientZerooo · 03/12/2021 15:39
I’m the northwest, but suspect I picked it up on Friday when I caught the train down to London (for a serious reason, not a jolly, before anyone comes at me). Either I’ve been terribly unlucky or it’s already everywhere. Train was very busy due to Storm Arwen etc and not many masks being worn.
luverlybubberly · 03/12/2021 15:41
Better now than over Christmas. Hope you're better soon
MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 03/12/2021 15:42
Have you been told it is the omricon variant?
PatientZerooo · 03/12/2021 15:43
And I mean I’ve subsequently been in contact with a few people who are double jabbed, or their kids, who had seasonal things planned and/or jobs to do and weren’t expecting to self isolate or home school. I know it’s mad to feel guilty but I sort of do.
Mybalconyiscracking · 03/12/2021 15:44
You are allowed to go to London for a jolly if you want OP.
freelions · 03/12/2021 15:45
It's hardly your fault OP, just bloody unlucky
If you caught it on a busy train then you won't be the only one and it just goes to show it must be quite widespread in the UK already
herecomesthsun · 03/12/2021 15:48
Good luck, take care & stay well
LemonViolet · 03/12/2021 15:50
Ah, so, you haven’t been told it’s O, but your husband, who you gave as a contact to T&T, has been told he’s been in contact with O?
Just unlucky OP, and not yor fault. I guess we all need to be aware we may have to isolate again if we get tagged as a contact, is all, and stay distanced from people if isolating would be a disaster.
Bluetrews25 · 03/12/2021 15:55
Hope you stay well, OP.
Shit happens.
rightsideoftheroad · 03/12/2021 15:56
Have you been told that it's that particular variant? How do you know?
Comefromaway · 03/12/2021 15:58
@PatientZerooo
Hope you are OK.
I took the train down to London last Friday too from the North West. It was packed as the one before had been cancelled then the tubes were absolutely rammed. Plus all the Avanti's were cancelled on the Saturday on the way back so we had all the Villa fans packed on our slow train to Crewe!
You are obviously just unlucky, it's not your fault.
And my reason was a uni open day for ds and a theatre trip.
Wagsandclaws · 03/12/2021 16:00
Gosh hope you get better soon.
We had covid six weeks ago and I'm hoping I escape The new variant till I get my booster in 3 weeks.
Btw you are allowed a jolly - people have to live their lives, we are off to Lapland the day after tomorrow with the DC's - put it off last year so 🤷♀️
ThePlantsitter · 03/12/2021 16:02
I think it's everywhere, whatever they're saying. There's no need to feel guilty unless you blame other people when they're ill. It's just a thing, and here's hoping you continue to feel ok.
Orchid876 · 03/12/2021 16:08
You've not ruined anything OP, all that any of us can do is be sensible and isolate when we have to, there's nothing wrong with getting on a train. We're waiting for Dad's PCR test now, she has symptoms and a positive LFT this morning. I read on a news article that they now tell you when you get results if it's suspected Omicron, did that not happen? It's odd that they told your contacts but not you. I don't think they actually sequence all the samples (we don't have the capacity and it takes too long), but they work out from a % that have been sequenced if it could be Omicron, so hence it's "suspected". I do wonder at what point everyone will be suspected Omicron, because they think it's spread so much. We'll see what DDs results say.
Prescottdanni123 · 03/12/2021 16:08
Not your fault. You were just unlucky and you haven't ruined anyone's plans.
If anyone is to blame, it is the government. They stopped planes flying to countries where the variant had been found, but let the people flying back from these places loose amongst the rest of the public. They should have made everyone returning from these countries take a test at the airport, and if they tested positive, they should have been made to isolated at the airport at least until it could be established if it was Omicron or not.
ifonly4 · 03/12/2021 16:08
It's not your fault, OP. We're all free to do whatever we want regarding mixing and travel. If you've caught in on the train, then blame those that weren't wearing masks!
Happy1982ish · 03/12/2021 16:11
@Mybalconyiscracking
Too right
I’ll be there all day tomorrow - birthday lunch
Can’t bloody wait
Rade · 03/12/2021 16:12
@rightsideoftheroad
The OPs contacts have been told to isolate under the new rules.
It does seem sensible for all contacts to isolate as even Delta is rife among vaccinated however mild their symptoms.
Happy1982ish · 03/12/2021 16:13
But everyone has to isolate under the new rules
KerryWeaver · 03/12/2021 16:15
@PatientZerooo
I'm sorry to hear this, PZ. I hope you are feeling okay and have mild symptoms?
If you caught it on a crowded train, I can see why you felt the need to add a few zeros to your username.
Happy1982ish · 03/12/2021 16:16
I hate fact posters are feeling as though they have to say that they went somewhere for what they perceive to be a “worthwhile” reason ie work / uni open day
In my opinion… my friend’s delayed by 2 years 50th celebration tomorrow is damn well worthwhile as a work or uni open day!!
