FFS I’ve got suspected omicron

Although nobody has actually told me personally - I only know because my contacts (including DH and DC) have been contacted by T&T and told.

Took test on Tuesday, positive result on Wednesday, T&T follow up today.

I have ruined a lot of people’s plans Sad

I think the people suggesting the OP should have lied to T&T are disgusting and it is this selfish behaviour that has contributed to the virus spreading.

Actually OP I have to admit if my friend who knew i had loads of xmas plan,s named me i'd be rightly pissed off. Why couldn't you just ring them and let them decide?

I did tell DH that if he tested positive at the weekend under no circumstances was he to give my phone number to T&T as I didn’t want to be harassed by them. I suppose that’s different to other contacts though

Are you actually for real?? You would happily, and without any thought for others, risk spreading this virus to possibly very vulnerable people, rather than mess up your own plans??

Hang on. This is all starting to make sense to me as well.

I’ve just had a very mild dose of covid and my PCR came back positive on Tuesday as well. DH, adult DS who visited nearly 2 weeks ago plus his GF and her father - who was visiting from overseas and wasn’t in direct contact with me - have all been contacted through T&T. Never having been through the system before, I assumed this was normal procedure?!

I thought I just had a mild head cold but I did temporarily lose my taste/smell. That’s why I did the initial LFT.

Surely, if they suspected Omicron, I would have been informed?

OP - why did you name them at all? If you genuinely thought it was delta, why not just pick up the phone and text them? Since they wouldnt have to isolate anyway? Identifying them to T&T was always going to be a risk - this close to xmas i'd be rightly pissed off and i know i wont be alone in thinking that - esp if they are double vax!
Yes lying about things and letting this spread is definitely the best way to go

I wouldn't want any friend giving my name to T&T. They can text me, I'll PCR, and isolate if necessary. But I don't want that T&T, that isn't fit for purpose hassling me.

I've read that with Omicron you DON'T lose your sense of taste and smell! So actually if you did then that's a bit of evidence against it being this new variant.

I know someone who had covid in November 2019 - she was horribly Unwell . she had an antibody test in 2020 ( money can buy you anything)

100 percent it was around before it was said to be! I was ill dec 2019 and my kids were extremely poorly in Jan 2020 - at the time I said I had never experienced anything like it!

I had all the symptoms associated with covid. Still can't smell anything although my taste returned after 3 days.

Been T&T's for dd1 and dd2 (two separate times two months apart, thanks kids) and there was 1 phonecall and then 1 text message. No hassling at all to be fair. The hassling thing is a bit of a lazy stereotyping /covid moan bingo thing if you ask me.

Sorry this is happening to you OP and any others effected, something stood out to me in the original post, you said not a lot of masks were being worn on the train, is it not mandatory to wear them (I'm not in the UK, still mandatory here), I've only done one journey by train since covid began and that was two weeks ago, it took three trains and one tram, seats had to be booked in advance for the trains and masks had to be worn. I would usually use the train regularly but because of underlying condition I've been staying at home a lot but this journey was unavoidable. I hope you feel better soon and don't feel guilty, you were doing all you could to avoid this shitty virus.

Nope. My contacts haven’t been IDd as omicron. My sample has (probably picked up as a s gene drop out or similar) and now my contacts are being asked to isolate and take a particular type of PCR test.

You've read it wrong.

It takes and average of 5 days for covid symptoms to start after exposure but it can fall before then or up to 10 days after.

Ops test must have shown the s dropout its a part that can be seen on a pcr test result that the delta varient doesn't have it needs more analysis to be sure its the new varient.

In the mean time close contacts are told they are possible contacts so must isolate regardless.

I don't recall OP saying they've had a test, or even have symptoms. Her DH and children have been told to isolate because they're a close contact of a suspect Omicron case. Op believes this is her, although she's not been informed that she's a suspected Omicron case.

I thought it took 10 days to culture to find the variant at specialist labs in Newcastle / Bristol etc

I'm not sure they would have that information that quickly

I think there is a error there somehow
