Although nobody has actually told me personally - I only know because my contacts (including DH and DC) have been contacted by T&T and told.

Took test on Tuesday, positive result on Wednesday, T&T follow up today.

I have ruined a lot of people’s plans Sad

@Indoctro

I thought it took 10 days to culture to find the variant at specialist labs in Newcastle / Bristol etc

I'm not sure they would have that information that quickly

I think there is a error there somehow

Some PCRs pick it up
MarshaBradyo · 03/12/2021 19:36

Or rather a gene drop drop out which might be omicron

PatientZerooo · 03/12/2021 19:37

Can everybody please just read what it says Sad

With the new varient there can be a s dropout that can be seen on the pcr tests which is different to delta. They treat anyone with it as a possible case until they know otherwise.

@Whinge

In meantime, OP's DH & DC have not only had symptoms, they were tested, their samples were sequenced, they were told they have Omicron

I don't recall OP saying they've had a test, or even have symptoms. Her DH and children have been told to isolate because they're a close contact of a suspect Omicron case. Op believes this is her, although she's not been informed that she's a suspected Omicron case.

I literally said that I had taken a test and had symptoms. Please read my posts. There’s a special clicky link to read OPs posts.

I'm sorry people aren't reading your posts. I thought you'd explained it really well, but sometimes people just leap on the first post and don't bother reading an OPs updates.

I also hope you don't feel too rotten, and remember none of this is your fault

forinborin · 03/12/2021 19:40

100 percent it was around before it was said to be! I was ill dec 2019 and my kids were extremely poorly in Jan 2020 - at the time I said I had never experienced anything like it!
There has been a really bad strain of flu circulating in that season, that the flu vaccines had spectacularly missed. Everyone who "had covid" in Dec 19 / Jan 20 likely had this flu, not covid.

Whinge · 03/12/2021 19:40

OP I was refering to your DH and children not having symptoms / a test. Apologies if that wasn't clear.

Oblomov21 · 03/12/2021 19:40

Underparmummy, I disagree. The hassling and shoddy behaviour of T&T has been posted by many MN'ers on many threads.
And I've had it. Twice.

KUdos6 · 03/12/2021 19:41

If the S. Africa case numbers are anything to go by, there will be a lot of people getting this in the next month.

In the last 3 days they have gone 4000/8000/11000/16000

Almost a vertical line on the graphs and much steeper than all the other variants/Waves.

Just have to hope it isn’t going to cause any more illness because if it does then hospitals will be overwhelmed very very quickly.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 03/12/2021 19:41

I’m the northwest, but suspect I picked it up on Friday when I caught the train down to London (for a serious reason, not a jolly, before anyone comes at me).

You are perfectly within your rights to go on a 'jolly' to London.

No you haven't OP. Not your fault. We can't start stigmatising Covid and feeling bad about passing it on!

Sorry. Covid snappiness in full effect. You’ve been really kind.

I feel double bad now I’ve seen you sticking up for me! I lumped you in with the non-readers! Mortifying

No worries. I thought it was clear as I was replying to the posters quote that mentioned your DH and children. However, reading it back I can see why you might think I meant you. Grin

You're allowed to be snappy, it sounds like a stressful situation. Will some cake and wine help? 🍰🍷

heathspeedwell · 03/12/2021 19:48

Hope you and your family are all safe and well, this must be so stressful for you.

Whinge · 03/12/2021 19:48

Haha please don't feel mortified. I could have worded my reply more clearly. I'd say you could make it up to me by sharing the cake and wine, but you need them more than me. Grin

Notthissticky · 03/12/2021 19:57

@7eleven

I think the people suggesting the OP should have lied to T&T are disgusting and it is this selfish behaviour that has contributed to the virus spreading.
Only @Watapalava so far, but I agree lying to T&T is very, very wrong.
Booklover3 · 03/12/2021 19:57

Just take care of yourself OP. You weren’t to know Flowers

Watapalava · 03/12/2021 19:59

There’s a whole other thread going of people who are also not naming contacts so I’m deffo not alone

IAmHereForTheFood · 03/12/2021 20:04

@Watapalava

I'll be another new variant next week! We are on what about our 4th? 5th?

Its expected to be the new dominant one anyway in the next month - covids going nowhere.

You’re right. It’s not going anywhere with irresponsible people spreading it all over the shop, rather than doing their bit to stop the spread Hmm
Notthissticky · 03/12/2021 20:06

Oh, that makes it all OK then!Hmm
EmmaOvary · 03/12/2021 20:07

'I'll be another new variant next week! We are on what about our 4th? 5th? '

So inconvenient! Does anyone have the virus on Whatsapp so we can just tell them to pack it in, already?

Watapalava · 03/12/2021 20:08

god some people are so ridiculously naive! 1/3 - 1/4 are ASYMPTOMATIC - you're flogging a dead horse!

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 03/12/2021 20:09

@PatientZerooo

I think I need to add ‘seriously fucking snappy’ to my symptom list. Literally having to bite my tongue every time I reply. Jesus.
I must have the Omicron variant of PMS cuz this sounds just like me at the moment 😂
