I actually think it’s quite scary and a bit strange the amount of people who are happy to have their human rights taken away.

For the record I’m fully vaccinated and I think that the vaccine is brilliant, but it is a medical procedure and I don’t think people that have made the decision not to have said medical procedure should then not be able to participate in society.

This is not at all normal, I can see the hospital beds are getting overwhelmed but this is likely because of viruses that haven’t been able to run through the population normally are making people very poorly.

Which means that this will happen every winter forevermore if we don’t let humans, vaccinated or not just get on with life.

It's been proven to not be a virus we can all get 'field immunity' from though. That's why it's such a shit situation.

Keeping the NHS able to cope is vital and that is why we must have lockdowns and keep it in check until we are all vaccinated and immune as best as possible and a drug is developed that can stop it developing to a point it kills people. It really is that simple.

Hiheyho · 03/12/2021 07:28

Huge problem here is that this can be avoided if an earlier treatment plan on Covid was advised, I’m not comparing flu and C, however they are both respiratory diseases and the former has been treated

TheSandgroper · 03/12/2021 07:30

The quarantine camps in Australia are exactly the same, except for the level of immediacy, as the rule that Australia has and that the Uk has that you may not immigrate until you provide a clear lung X-ray from an approved provider. ie, TB sufferers will not be accepted.

Dh is from a modern European country, he has the tb scar on his arm of an appropriate size and he still wasn’t allowed in until he had his X-ray. And he didn’t wonder about his human rights. It’s the price we pay for living in our comfort zone.

If the government put more money into the NHS and it was organized better, we wouldn't have to keep having lock downs to prevent it being overwhelmed.
ichundich · 03/12/2021 07:31

Exactly. Add in the fact that many nurses and carers are quitting after burning out from treating Covid patients for 2 years.

Riverlee · 03/12/2021 07:32

It doesn’t sit easy with me either (double jabbed, intend to get booster next week).

Everyone has autonomy over their body.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2021 07:33

@ChilliGoat

If you’re as equally as concerned about the human rights being taken away by the new policing bill and the proposal to leave thr ECHR, then I’m all ears.
Well quite. This is what we need to be concerned about. The being amendments shoved in without due scrutiny are hideous.
OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/12/2021 07:34

dunno where beings came from.

What’s the point of saying that? Well you d been jabbed. Great but everyone else has autonomy? Doesn’t work like that.

The whole point of vaccines is that everyone has it!

Squleamish · 03/12/2021 07:34

I'm with you, OP.
The scariest thing about it is how readily people are normalising it. Even applauding what's going on in Austria, Germany, Australia.... Some.of the responses to your post are chilling.

Trixiefirecracker · 03/12/2021 07:35

Brilliant. Another mumsnet virologist.

Practicebeingpatient · 03/12/2021 07:35

As I understand it human rights are basic things like sanitation, shelter, warmth, enough food, access to clean water and basic health care, freedom from persecution, quiet enjoyment of their homes and family life. No one is suggesting that the unvaccinated should lose those things. It isn't a human right to go to the theatre or a restaurant or a gym, those things are privileges of wealth.

It's fine if people don't want the vaccine however if they decline it it doesn't seem unreasonable that, while the risks of CoVid are high, they keep away from inessential crowded areas for their own protection and the protection of others.

I have a good friend, a fitness instructor, who pre-pandemic ran several very well attended classes every week. When she started back up in June this year most of her old clients flocked back, delighted for normalcy. Until she made her anti-vax opinions known. Within a few weeks she had dropped from 15/20 people in a class to just 2 (I was one of them). She was bewildered (and cancelled all future classes because with just two participants she was losing money) but it seemed very clear to me that given an informed choice most vaxxed people preferred not to take the extra risks associated with mixing with the unvaxxed.

Given that that's the case and we live in a democracy do we ask the vaxxed population to stay away from non-essential public spaces so the unvaxxed minority can mix freely or is it fairer to do it the other way around?

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/12/2021 07:36

Covid’s been hugely disruptive and disruptive to the economy and the health service - we’re going to be paying for it for a long time. It’s an unusual situation and it needs to be put to bed. If course mega fines and prison sentences for people who haven’t been jabbed isn’t acceptable, but experimenting with making life inconvenient if you haven’t been vaccinated? A good plan if it works I’d say.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 03/12/2021 07:37

Society wants out of this pandemic.

Thise refusing to vaccinate are slowing that down, holding us back, and providing a nice host for more variants to breed.

Get it done and get this finished.

Allaboutyou222 · 03/12/2021 07:37

Chilling…..🙄

Dishhh · 03/12/2021 07:37

@Anythingbutsnow

Surely the answer to an overwhelmed NHS isn't to lock us all up though. Why not just put more money into the NHS to improve it? Would have been a better use of furlough money.

The quarantine camps in Australia are also v scary. Makes me wonder if people had started to speak up more about concentration camps in the Holocaust would they have been labelled conspiracy theorist or would they have been taken seriously and saved thousands of lives? That's the reason I think we need to give people like OP a fair hearing.

Do you even know what these 'quarantine camps' are even for? They aren't 'camps' to begin with - but top marks for the reference. They are medical short-stay facilities.

They are used for travellers returning from abroad and/or interstate. Without them, travel would be impossible. Families wouldn't be able to reunite. At least now, we have overseas travel happening and plenty of people are arriving here. And yes - they need to quarantine for a while.

Quarantine is also used for the Covid-positive who don't wish to isolate at home, but also aren't ill enough to be in hospital either.

HTH.

Hairwizard · 03/12/2021 07:44

Agree op. About time someone said it. Those of you thinking its different its another country we dont do that here, i would say dont be so sure.
Look at what has been going on this last 2 years, would you have believed anyone had they told you 2 years ago we would be at this point?
Scares me the amount of folk on here who are ok with whats going on. Its not ok. Its not right.

Hairwizard · 03/12/2021 07:47

@ChilliGoat

Another good point.
How many amendments have they sneaked in while we are all looking the other way?

frumpety · 03/12/2021 07:48

Germany currently have a lot of people who are seriously or critically ill, so needing hospital treatment, nearly four times as many as the UK at the moment. I know their healthcare system has been lauded as much better than the NHS, but even it has a tipping point where it becomes difficult to cope.

Thats a bit vague, what are the specific things that have happened and are still happening that you think we shouldn't be ok with ?

bestbeforedateexpired · 03/12/2021 07:52

Perhaps everyone who has become an armchair virologist over the last 2 years could invest some of their time and energy catching up on what this corrupt and incompetent government are pushing though parliament without appropriate scrutiny.

EmpressSuiko · 03/12/2021 07:53

What rights have been taken away from us?

schnubbins · 03/12/2021 07:53

Access to medical care is a human right .That is the reason Germany and many other countries are making these decisions .

coconuthead · 03/12/2021 07:55

@TheSandgroper

I don’t get it. You know there are people in iron lungs, don’t you? When Salk and Sabin came on the market, I don’t think anyone asked about human rights. They just took the first vaccination offered to them.

You do know, don’t you, that polio hasn’t died out? It’s just held at bay. Look around you. How many people with it do you see? Do you not realise that everyone who follows an approved vaccination schedule from birth receives a vaccination for polio? And diphtheria? And a whole heap of others? Look up post-polio syndrome. Some of the effects can be life long.

You are living your comfortable life safe because others before you did the hard work. Now, it’s our turn.

Absolutely 100% this! People are so unbelievably selfish and ignorant these days.
