Anti vaxxers question *title edited by MNHQ at OP's request*

Watching the local news last week our local hospitals ITU is 6/8 full with covid patients. All unvaccinated. Youngest is 20 with no underlying heath conditions. I am continually hearing about covid patients in or just out of ITU saying 'I wish I'd got the jab'.

How do you (as an anti vaxxer) reconcile your attitude but still expecting to be treated in ITU? If they said ' right, no jab, no ITU bed' would you still refuse the vaccine?

What would it (genuinely) take for you to have the jab having seen all the other anti vaxxers encouraging people to have it after realising how ill they were?

OP posts:

@Kendodd

I’d implore you to read up on some basic facts about Coronavirus and the vaccines - your posts are very lacking in understanding of the basic science and medicine of the virus, vaccinations, and how the immune system works.

It won't work, they won't believe it.
What they will believe though is some crack pot bullshit on YouTube.

Yep no point in trying with these people I just hope they stay far far away. Also don’t read the misinformed replies with unproven claims and no references, waste of time

@Bluepinkyellowcakes

Actually yes, because that's life. People die. We all will. It's always been that way and it always will be. People need to stop think g we must live forever. Having said that I do believe we can minimise risk to ourselves and others by practicing good hygiene and looking after our healthy by doing things that are right for our bodies naturally, ie eating well, trying to get good sleep, maintaining a healthy weight, fitness. But this jab I don't believe is needed.
Lol okay people die so we should get rid of modern medicine, what’s the point in scientific research, hospitals, doctors, I hope you are not wasting GP resources and follow your own crap
foxgoosefinch · 28/11/2021 18:38

What a load of old rubbish, being told on the internet you’re a bit of an idiot for thinking your opinion is better than more informed people is not coercion. Nobody in the NHS has been bullying you. If you can’t understand why the flu vaccine programme is different to the Covid one even when people have been explaining some of the reasons why, then you are pretty hard of thinking I’m afraid.

@Bluepinkyellowcakes,

You have a really skewed perception of risk. A 1% fatality risk is not ‘almost nothing’. You compared it to the lottery .

The chance of winning the lotto jackpot is around is around 0.000002%, or around 1/50,000th the chance of dying from Covid (if you get it unvaccinated).

Hang gliding regularly is probably about 5x safer than getting Covid. I guess you could take up Grand Prix racing if you really want that kind of risk.

Alternatively, you could take advantage of modern science and get vaccinated..,

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 28/11/2021 18:43

Wow. People really are OK with their rights being taken away. When you're on the 8th jab for a virus that similar to a cold will you still feel the same?!
I'm not an idiot, I weigh up the risks and say nope I don't need the jab thanks. So I won't have it. No matter how many people try telling me to, no matter what restrictions are put in place to persuade (coerce) me into changing my mind.

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 28/11/2021 18:46

Mummy, well anecdotally I do not know anyone who has died or been seriously ill with COVID. I still acknowledge that people have died and been seriously ill with it. The vast majority of people will recover and have mild symptoms, that's a fact.

Frazzled2207 · 28/11/2021 18:47

What rights exactly do you think are being taken away?

TheReluctantPhoenix · 28/11/2021 18:47

@Bluepinkyellowcakes,

How many times is it ok to put your seatbelt on because the government tells you to?

Will you still be ok on your 1,000th time?

foxgoosefinch · 28/11/2021 18:48

@Bluepinkyellowcakes and that’s your prerogative, and it’s also our prerogative to think you’re a bit of a idiot with limited understanding of the issue in that case.

Them’s the breaks as they say 🤷‍♀️

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 28/11/2021 18:48

2 questions if I may.
Do most people die if they get covid?
Do most people who get covid need hospital treatment?

Minceandonions · 28/11/2021 18:50

I'm clean living, slim, fit and active.
I know people who drink to oblivion, eat too much and are obese, take drugs, smoke and get zero exercise, who ride - and crash - motorbikes , who sleep around and need treatment for STIs. They are a significant problem for the NHS. They still get treated for illnesses, as they should.
I'm double jabbed by the way.

foxgoosefinch · 28/11/2021 18:50

It’s kind of amazing to me that after 18 months of this someone can still be so ill-informed 🤷‍♀️

Mischance · 28/11/2021 18:51

A local vociferous anti-vaxxer in his 40s has just died of covid. He was a widower. He had no underlying health conditions. Two orphaned children - and worse, unnecessarily orphaned.

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 28/11/2021 18:51

The rights of people are being taken away if they don't have the vaccine, not if they do. NHS and care workers having their jobs taken. Having life made more difficult if you are unjabbed ie extra testing and isolation. Despite the fact jabbed also pass it on. It makes no sense. It will only get worse.

SarahJeffers341 · 28/11/2021 18:51

My husband won’t have the vaccine.
He has read too many articles about people who have had it and become very ill with heart issues. He doesn’t believe there is any proof it actually works and given the fact there are new variants constantly… will we have a new vaccine every month?! It’s worrying.

I’ve had my first two as I work for the NHS. It effected my periods which worried me as I don’t see why this would happen… therefore I haven’t booked my booster and I’m glad I didn’t have it given the new strain it doesn’t protect against.

Mischance · 28/11/2021 18:52

Indeed so.

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 28/11/2021 18:52

Restriction of movement in travelling internationally and restriction in movement domestically is being discussed and is in fact happening in Scotland Wales with vaccine passports. People are losing their jobs because they have chosen not to be vaccinated.

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 28/11/2021 18:53

Fox, you are being very rude and it's not a good look.

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 28/11/2021 18:54

Yes the passport is also something I'm dead against. If the vaccine doesn't stop it spreading then why will a passport? It won't, its to make peoples lives more difficult.

foxgoosefinch · 28/11/2021 18:55

therefore I haven’t booked my booster and I’m glad I didn’t have it given the new strain it doesn’t protect against.

Given that nobody knows yet whether or not it does, I find that ridiculous.

The dominant variant here is still Delta and the data shows that the booster raises protection to near 95%.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 28/11/2021 18:55

The seatbelt analogy is good.
Do most people in a car journey die?
Do most people in a car journey need hospital treatment?
But we wear a seatbelt. You could change journey to accident and the answers would still be no.

Bluepinkyellowcakes · 28/11/2021 18:57

@HeyDugeesCakeBadge

Fox, you are being very rude and it's not a good look.
Thanks, that's correct. People might not agree with me and that's OK, I'm not trying to change anyone's mind, I'm just explaining my reasons for not getting the jab. And I'm doing it without being nasty. Because there's no need. The division this jab causes is awful. I see it as individual choice, and mine is I'm low risk so I decline. Despite the fact I get restrictions and pressure put on me for making that particular choice.

There is zero evidence that the vaccine will not protect against the omicron variant

It’s only been picked up a matter of days ago so NOBODY KNOWS. There is a chance of some vaccine escape but scientists I follow on Twitter explain that it’s not a Binary thing and it’s very unlikely that our vaccines wouldn’t offer any protection. Please don’t say things that aren’t true and certainly have not been proven.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 28/11/2021 18:57

Nearly all immunologists (all?) believe that the vaccine will still protect against Omicron.

The only question is how much.
