Some restrictions back, fed up
999

Ireallydontcare55 · 27/11/2021 19:55

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

I'm prepared to do it forever, rather than die of COVID.

Why would you die of Covid ? You’re far more likely to die of cancer or Alzheimer’s.

This was probably not the right site to post this on.

I work in a hospital and wear a mask all day every day anyway. I’ve never stopped wearing them in shops etc so can’t get too worked up by the new measures.

This too will pass x

Can't get worked up over wearing a mask in a shop or on public transport really. Travel restrictions have always been part of a global effort anyway, even if we left the floodgates open with no caveats other countrys wouldnt necessarily let us in. Small restrictions seem sensible.

Same here. It really isn't hard to wear a mask for the majority of people. I don't mind doing that if it helps keep some people alive for a bit longer than they otherwise would be.

As I said, it’s not the act of wearing a mask, it’s bringing back restrictions when we now have people triple jabbed, and after being told that restrictions were over. There will always be variants

Wales never got rid of masks and it’s really not a big deal to wear one in the shops 🤷‍♂️

Nigh on 100k excess deaths in England and Wales. 100k people more than usual dying in 12 months.

Hardly a hardship to wear a mask and open some windows to keep that as low as possible.

There could be variants forever, it’s here to stay.

I'm with you OP

It's shit

And my autistic son who can't wear a mask (don't @ me that he can, you have no idea) will get even more crap from the nasty little shits at school who can't empathise with anyone who's even just a little bit different.

I agree, it's not going anywhere and there will always be mutations of it. I'm not entirely sure the lockdowns haven't increased the mutations to be honest, I fully understand why they were done but I think it made the bastard virus more determined to keep on spreading rather than get a bit burnt out.

It’s not just masks, it’s new travel restrictions too. It’s not a hardship no, but normal life for me does not involve wearing a mask.

I'm not sure what the alternative is. I'd like there to be a bed available in intensive care should someone I love need it for whatever reason. Therefore we need to keep covid cases at a level where they don't completely overwhelm the hospitals.

I don't think there was mentions of masks in schools again? I doubt they'll bother.

What worries me is how willingly people have accepted the idea of wearing a mask for the rest of their life potentially

For once the government has been on its toes with mitigations, which is a good thing. These are simple to do and have the least knock-on effects for the economy.

No mention of schools though......

If Omicron turns out to be not all that, then they can be lifted.

The point of the vaccines is that you won't get seriously ill.

I'm relieved that masks are back on public transport. I have to catch a train into London and it's been getting more crowded.

I never stopped wearing a mask in public and am still working from home - Covid didn't kill me - but it has left me with a range of long covid problems
