Some restrictions back, fed up

Ireallydontcare55 · 27/11/2021 19:55

Just heard the news about masks returning as of next week and changes to travelling rules.

It’s not so much that wearing a mask is inconvenient, it’s the fact that we were told restrictions were over and that we could get on with our lives.

I know I will get shot down for this post, but if it isn’t the ‘omnicron’ variant then it’ll be something else.

I’m sure many people will be in favour of tighter restrictions ‘until numbers drop’. And then what? In a few months’ time when the latest variant is out, will we have to do the same again?
“it’s just for a few weeks/months”

This isn’t going away. What’s the point of having 3 vaccines?

I’m fed up with it all, are people really prepared to do this for the foreseeable future ?

OP posts:

@Ireallydontcare55

The point that people are making ‘it’s just a mask, it’s just a couple of days of isolation, well we were told this would not be returning. This is not normal life
But we were told that restrictions could return. We were never told they were gone forever. That's just a lie.
Pumperthepumper · 27/11/2021 20:31

What’s the big deal with wearing a mask?

Twizbe · 27/11/2021 20:32

I'm with you OP. I don't want to wear masks again.

Porfre · 27/11/2021 20:32

Theres going to be new variants every few months.
That's how a virus works. And the vaccines will become less effective.

We've got to get on with life. Life cant be put on hold every few months for ever more.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 27/11/2021 20:33

@MarleneDietrichsSmile

I’m with you OP, it’s not just masks, it’s just a step towards another lockdown and another shit winter where we are not allowed to do anything

Just a mask my arse

Masks first, then curfews, then restaurants and bars and theatres close, we must work from home again, only go out once a day, sports cancelled … life cancelled

We’re on that path again

People have short memories

“Just masks”? Hmm yeah right Sad

Spot on.
Zotter · 27/11/2021 20:33

Sorry but sentiments like yours OP remind me a child stamping their foot and going I won’t do it. Unfortunately, the reality is life has changed and it may be precautions will have to be taken for periods if a new highly transmissible and more current vaccine resistant mutation arises. Hopefully omicron will be managed but precaution is sensible.

TomelettewithGreggs · 27/11/2021 20:33

Masks were always mandatory on TFL and about 10% were wearing them. I can't get worked up about it because no one will wear them anyway, mandatory or not.

Pumperthepumper · 27/11/2021 20:33

In fact, with the cold weather, a mask is a lovely thing. It’s like a socially acceptable balaclava.

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 20:33

They shouldn't be wearing masks though, the 6 year olds, should they?

It's bordering on obscene to make them.

It’s the UK that’s deemed it ‘obscene’.

Plenty of support for them in these countries, otherwise kids wouldn’t be wearing them. The schools never closed (except for a month in March-April 2020). There are no infinite close contact PCRs, isolations, classes closing and staff isolating. Kids didn’t miss months and months of school.

Each country decided what its priorities were, and I personally can’t say which ones got it right and which ones didn’t. It’s a fine balance.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 27/11/2021 20:33

More than happy to have masks back tbh. I don’t think we should have stopped them.

SonicBroom · 27/11/2021 20:33

Many many many people among us have been taken in by an irrational fear and almost enjoy having restrictions placed upon them because it makes them feel safe. They don’t mind being infantilized. The problem is these people really struggle to think for themselves

The only people who should be thinking for themselves are the ones who are qualified in public health, epidemiology, clinical medicine or any other relevant field.

The fact that we have people who are so butt ignorant and unaware of their own limitations thinking they know best is every bit of the reason that this country is in such a mess.

Every decision is a trade-off. I’d rather have masks and vaccine passports etc now than school closures or restrictions on socialising in six weeks’ time because we pandered to the feelings of people who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about. Sadly Covid, like any disease, cares nothing for how you feel. And like any disease it will manipulate your weakspots. In our case our lack of self awareness is one of them.

hulahooper2 · 27/11/2021 20:33

Only England got rid of masks , rest of uk didn’t

flipflop76 · 27/11/2021 20:33

I completely agree OP

RandomLondoner · 27/11/2021 20:34

Huh? So people who have had their life expectancy reduced because GPS wouldn’t see them face to face, people whose incomes have reduced, children whose education and subsequent life chances have been damaged. All this is baked in? Baked into what?

To answer the questions in reverse order, the figure for "excess deaths" is what something is baked into.

That something is the number of people whose deaths were caused by Covid restrictions. I was responding to a post which I think was implying that the cost of restrictions in non-covid deaths was not being counted, my reply was pointing out that that was flat-out wrong.

Mellowyellow222 · 27/11/2021 20:34

@Ireallydontcare55

We have vaccines and booster shots now, if people are ending up intensive care then it’s likely they would have done anyway.
I’m not sure you understand why we have restrictions. It’s because the health service can’t cope and there aren’t enough beds.

The longer term solution is to invest more heavily in the health service so that it can cope with spikes in contagious diseases. But it can’t cope at the moment so we need to reduce the number of people who will needs intensive care beds.

quitefranklyabsurd · 27/11/2021 20:34

I’m triple jabbed, it doesn’t make me invincible. Nor do my three jabs give me any where near the protection against this new variant as it did against previous variants.

Basically what your saying is you’re too selfish to protect the vulnerable by wearing a mask. My mask doesn’t protect me it protects you but your not prepared to offer that similar courtesy. That just about sums up this rotten nation tbh.

And for those that say they won’t be stoped from seeing loved ones again - you probably won’t but only because this cowardly prime minister wouldn’t bring it such restrictions again.

Honestly why do people get worked up about wearing masks - it isn’t an infringement on your civil liberties and it protect the most vulnerable of society.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 27/11/2021 20:35

What’s this 5 minutes thing @PizzaCrust … do you never go anywhere for longer than. 5 minutes?

And you say you hate hate hate wearing a mask and it is awful… yet we should all do it without complaining? So you acknowledge it is awful, yet we should also not complain as it’s not a big deal?

You are not making sense ?

Smacks of you being miserable and wanting everyone else to be equally miserable?

Why?

Do you generally hate people?

Earwigworries · 27/11/2021 20:35

When I watched the briefing today the message I heard loud and clear was that they don’t know what the impact of the latest variant will be .. but it’s more mutated than previous variants , so while the scientists try and figure that out, we are taking precautions .. I see no issue with wearing my masks - I’d probably be a bit fed up if I was stuck in South Africa but I can see why they’re concerned enough to not just carry on and I’m no scientist

Jellykat · 27/11/2021 20:36

I'll just point out in Wales we've never stopped wearing masks in shops, or public transport, no biggy.. all our tourists have put them on too without a fuss, just get on with it..

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 20:36

@Twizbe

I'm with you OP. I don't want to wear masks again.
‘I don’t want to’ doesn’t sound like a very logical reason for not wearing a mask. I agree we’re on toddler-whining-for-an-ice-cream-at-2am territory 😂
EmotionalSupportBear · 27/11/2021 20:36

more fool everyone who was stupid enough to stop wearing masks indoors.. i never did.. i dont think i will for a long time either.. i have a CEV family member i spend time with.. i'm not putting them at risk for anyone's dumb ideas on 'freedom.'

oh, and i'm overweight/asthmatic and had all 3 jabs.

keepOutOfTheFridgeDerek · 27/11/2021 20:36

@Zampa

I hate wearing a mask. I find it really claustrophobic.

However, having had two "worst colds of my life" in the past two months, I'm delighted to see mask wearing back if it protects me from people who would have passed their grubby germs onto me if they hadn't been wearing one.

I will, of course, continue to extend them the same courtesy.

So if your mask worked, how the hell did you catch those colds?
SonicBroom · 27/11/2021 20:37

Only England got rid of masks , rest of uk didn’t

Although to be fair, on paper it has made zero difference to their stats.

skintasabint · 27/11/2021 20:37

Nope. Not doing any of it at all. They should have kept the borders closed like NZ did.

I'm not prepared to carry on like this anymore.

EileenGC · 27/11/2021 20:38

So if your mask worked, how the hell did you catch those colds?

Unless this person was wearing an FFP2/3, the mask didn’t protect them. It protected people around them only.

That’s why proper, medical-grade mask wearing should be implemented if they want it to be effective. Pieces of cloth aren’t effective.
