Anyone else fancy a grouch at having Covid? I’m a few days in, feeling like crap and fed up with the world in general.

Tea and sympathy to anyone in a similar position?

had to go for a pcr test and it's come back positive.
10 days isolation!
I feel rough though awful headache and no energy at all. Everything is an effort and so glad I'm double vaccinated and have booster booked not long after I'm allowed out again .
Managed to get a food order online!!
I'll get sick pay but it's a nightmare all round.
I know they said the vaccines were not a silver bullet , but I rather hoped I'd avoid getting it by doing the right things
Been working with people who tested positive
last week.
Awful virus!

Onceuponatimethen · 23/11/2021 07:26

@the80sweregreat sorry to hear you have it too

Snap I knew the vaccines weren’t 100% but was still really hoping to avoid this and not like I’ve been bar hopping.

Are you still going for the booster? I’m wondering whether to wait a few weeks now I will have some natural immunity? Do they ask adults to wait a bit after infection or is that advice only for kids?

LynetteScavo · 23/11/2021 08:14

I've just come back to moan..a week after being "released" I'm bloody exhausted. Everyone just expects you to go back to show you we're pretty-Covid. My close colleagues is now off with Covid so I'm trying to do her job as well. I'm sitting outside work dreading going in. As soon as I start doing anything I have the most awful headache. I just want to go back to bed.

flowerarrangement · 23/11/2021 08:40

You can't book a booster within 28 days of a positive PCR. I looked that up because my booster was due the day after I tested positive.

Day 8 here and I am wiped. I have actually been doing a couple of hours a day wfh. Some days this has turned into five hours but actually I am not doing anything today and I am thinking of phoning the doctor for a sick note for next week.

flowerarrangement · 23/11/2021 08:41

Lynette - you need to pace yourself. I know someone with long COVID and it isn't pretty.

PurpleDaisies · 23/11/2021 08:54

Pacing is so hard. It’s difficult not to do too much on days when you feel good. I’m about three weeks in now. The only thing I’m left with is fatigue. It’s so frustrating.

the80sweregreat · 23/11/2021 09:58

It's the dizziness that I can't bear !
Still , it's only been a few days, could be worse i know !

loveablequalities · 23/11/2021 10:11

Does anyone else have an upset stomach? This is definitely a covid thing and not a different bug?

the80sweregreat · 23/11/2021 10:52

My stomach wasn't great on the weekend.
I'm not eating much though

snaxinyourslacks · 23/11/2021 12:02

An upset stomach is my main symptom!

HelloMist · 23/11/2021 13:13

sorry for those feeling bad whatever day you're on.

@MissHavershamReturns DH has heard Tim Spector (of the Zoe app) suggesting to not rush into getting your booster right after having Covid. He's tweeted it may be better to wait 3 months instead of 1 but hasn't explained the reasons. We are going to keep an eye out for more data/opinions before booking ours, but I suppose it would depend on each person's risk factors too.

Onceuponatimethen · 23/11/2021 13:17

Really useful thanks @HelloMist. Might wait 90 days for myself, but maybe not too much longer as I know someone who got Covid 3.5 months after their second jab.

Onceuponatimethen · 23/11/2021 13:18

Although I guess infection might give you longer immunity than a vaccine but who knows right now?

SilverGlassHare · 23/11/2021 13:53

Day 11 for me - really tired, achy ribs/chest, no taste or smell. Luckily I don't have much of a cough and while I'm a bit congested, it's just stuffy rather than blocked. Meant to be going away this weekend for a long awaited visit to family and I'm worried I won't be able to do anything! I just hung some washing up and was really breathless afterwards. I'm back at work but wfh so I'm going for a nap now.

the80sweregreat · 23/11/2021 14:13

The dates I can be ' freed ' have changed today by the app, 1 days difference.
I'm impressed that the results came back in than less than 24 hours though the lft worked yesterday and the pcr testing was very well run. Very efficient. The labs must be working 24/7 around here!
I'm feeling weak today , heavy chest and a bit breathless though.
If I had refused the jabs , would I be worse ?
I will never know , but it's something that any anti the vaccines might need to think about ?
Although I appreciate it's up to the individual to make that call at all times.

wheresmymojo · 23/11/2021 16:32

Checking in - I have no idea what day I'm on...I guess Day 8ish.

I spent the evening sitting next to a friend a week ago and she has since tested positive.

I had a few weird symptoms last week but didn't know about friend as she didn't know herself...cracking headache that I put down to overwork and palpitations. Otherwise fine so didn't think of COVID.

Sunday morning start to cough occasionally and when I cough I feel breathless which made me reassess...

Then pinged by NHS track and trace on Sunday. Did my PCR on Sunday night at a place where you self-administer. I am a terrible baby when it comes to shoving things anywhere and was retching...left thinking I might get an 'inconclusive' result.

Anyway - negative result!

Since have been coughing more and feeling more breathless. Plus aches, chills, etc. Bit warm but no fever.

To complicate matters I had my booster and flu jab on Monday.

So it's all a bit fucked up. I feel pretty suspicious that I had a false negative as while the booster explains the chills/aches the symptoms last week and now very breathless cough seem mightily coincidental with spending a whole evening next to someone with COVID...

wheresmymojo · 23/11/2021 16:33

Anyway....I researched false negative rates and a study in China found the 5% false negative rate rose to 36% when people self administered the test!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/11/2021 18:22

Today is the first day I'm not coughing all the time.

Still a bit tight chested if I breathe in deeply. But getting there.

Did the weekly shop earlier and didn't need a 2 hour map this time.

I am so grateful for the vaccines, have no doubt that I would be in a bad way. Same age as my husband but asthmatic and am definitely having a worse time

Ah could you let us know when you know more? Have already re booked mine!
Happydaysandhappysmiles · 23/11/2021 21:49

Sorry me again, has anyone seen any research on a link between long covid and doing too much after having covid? Worried about continuing to just feel like a having a bad cold (with added extras like no sense of smell and a bit spaced out and taking lots of inhalers)and then just whizzing back to normal including fairly strenuous activity the weekend after next....and ending up with long covid.

flowerarrangement · 23/11/2021 21:51

The people I know with long COVID were all hospitalised Happy.

Onceuponatimethen · 23/11/2021 21:58

I know someone who wasn’t hospitalised and who had it, but he wasn’t double vaxxed
