This is the DATA thread.

Our preference is for factual, data driven and analytical contributions.

Please try to keep discussion focused on these.

moimichme · 08/11/2021 07:10

Anecdata/moan alert I'm envious that some of you work in universities that report case numbers. Envy Mine has been been appalling on that front throughout (spinning everything in as positive a light as possible), and we've only known any numbers at all if our students or colleagues tell us.

MRex · 08/11/2021 07:16

Checking in to pop back later. End of this week is the time to see if schools going back leads to big increases or not.

HereComesYourMam · 08/11/2021 07:47

I've been lurking here from the beginning and find these threads really valuable, and very much appreciate all the input from everyone. But can I put in a plea for no more random TV spoilers? Lots of people (including me!) don't watch things live and are often a day or two behind. Thanks Smile

Piggywaspushed · 08/11/2021 08:41

I don't think it's a spoiler if it has already been aired. The Strictly thread wouldn't survive or the Bake Off thread! Spoilers are things released in advance of a programme or film being in public domain...

I like that boys mentions Bake Off. It makes boys seem human Wink

HereComesYourMam · 08/11/2021 08:46

OK so maybe spoiler is maybe not the right word, but you get my point. I've managed to get through the whole of this year's Bake Off and Strictly a couple of days behind on each, without finding out who's been booted off, until this week!

HereComesYourMam · 08/11/2021 08:48

Too many maybes... and if you're reading the threads that are specifically for those programmes then you know what to expect so it's different.

Yep, I’d managed to avoid until reading this thread too 😢😢 We usually watch it two days later

😂

If you're avoiding all news programmes and social media living in a cave, you might just make it 24hrs after broadcast. If you work or have friends you've no chance. 🤦‍♀️

Oh, and Kristin shot JR...

@MRex

Checking in to pop back later. End of this week is the time to see if schools going back leads to big increases or not.
Didn't Leicestershire, Leicester, and presumaby Rutland, all start half term a week earlier than most areas?

Their websites suggest term ended Friday 15th October, not sure though it was a one or two week half term, or quite how this varied between schools (given most will be academies and can pretty much do whatever they like).

Still might be interesting to see what has happened there so far.

These are the daily cases and the rolling 7 day rate per 100,000 for each council area in Leicestershire, including the city itself and Rutland.

Columns are daily cases. Black indicates a Monday; the strange muddy colour Saturdays and Sundays; red Friday 15th October (term end ?).

The line is the rate per 100,000, which aligns with the secondary y-axis

Each graph runs from the last Monday in September up to 6th November, so the shading at the end to indicate the last couple of days incomplete.

Starting with Blaby. Largely flat from end September to near end of October with a slight fall in the last few completed days.

Peak case day Monday 4th October Although not that much of a peak at 64 cases; thereafter a smattering of days in the mid 50s.

Charnwood quite a steep increase to close to 600 cases per 100,000 on 14th October, then a marked drop through to 23rd Oct; slight increase through to end October then a decline again in the days completed in November so far.

Peak case day Monday 11th October with 156 cases

Harborough different again.

Largely flat for the first couple of weeks. sustained increase for about ten days. Peak rate of just over 450 per 100,000 on 21st October. Followed by a dip then back to pretty much the same 450 per 100,000 mark on 2nd November.

Peak case day Monday 18th October with 87 cases. Although close to that again with 83 cases on Monday 2nd November.

Hinckley and Bosworth - more akin to Charnwood.

Flat through first ten days of so, at around 400 per 100,000 seven day rate; sharp increase to peak, rate wise, at near 700 per 100,000 on 20th October; followed by a fairly good fall, and largely plateauing since.

Peak case day Monday 18th October with 151 cases.

Melton^ something of a Blaby / Harborough hybrid.

Relatively higher start point with a slight fall back and flattening. A slow but sustained upward drift since 11th October. with a peak 7 day rate of just over 500 per 100,000 on 1st November; signs of some fall off in the few completed days thereafter.

Peak case day : Wednesday 27th October with 93 cases.

North West Leicestershire very similar to Charnwood (aren't they adjacent to each other?)

Slight rise in early October, then steeper from around 4th October to peak at almost 750 per 100,000 on 18th October. Fairly rapid fall to 25th October, and a slower with still declining trajectory since.

Peak case day: Tuesday 12th October with 184 cases.

Oadby and Wigston which, controversial suggestion, is largely an outer suburb of Leicester. Proper controversial is Jurg's exit tomorrow. just kidding

Another Charnwood / NW Leics type profile, but with a slightly earlier and more sustained peak. Peaked at just over 750 per 100,000 on Friday 15th October; although breached 700 per 100,000 rate on 11th October. Largely a gradual decline since the 18th, with small upward blip for a few days around 26th - 29th October, since then continues to fall back.

Peak case day : Monday 11th October with 150 cases.

Leicester city. A whole new profile. Flat and almost all below 300 per 100,000 mark through to 18th October. The city council's website indicates term ended 15th October, any more local confirmation would be useful. As in the week that followed case rate jumped to peak at 422 (so relatively low compared with the Leicestershire boroughs) on 25th October. A downward trajectory maintained since.

Peak case day : Monday 25th October with 293 cases - quite a significant peak. Interestingly the Monday 18th October case number in Leicester was its lowest for any Monday in the period shown.

Finally Rutland Population is only 40,000. A slightly more extreme version of neighbouring Harborough. 7 date rate rising since early October to peak at 630 per 100,000 on Friday 15th. Followed by a fairly sharp dip to 360 per 100,0000 by Friday 22nd, climbing back to nearer 500 per 100,000 over the next 5 days, but since then again a sustained fall, currently sits at just under 300 per 100,000

Peak case day : Monday 11th October with 56 cases. Markedly higher than any other Monday in Rutland for the weeks shown.

I'll readily admit I'm looking forward to returning to my home planet once the youngest finishes Uni. Only came for the perceived educational excellence, but made the basic error of letting DH we don't need a map pilot the craft. And here I am in England, rather than the planned destination of Finland. Confused

OP posts:
MRex · 08/11/2021 12:10

Thanks @boys3, I was presuming it would take 1-2 weeks (2-4 cycles) for infections to manage to hit superspreaders, so it wouldn't be until end of this week that we can tell for sure across the country if it's going to start peaking again. I forgot about the early ones like Leicester, which look reasonably promising so far.

Bordois · 08/11/2021 16:06

So at least 4 (western) European countries now have case rates higher than the UK with a couple more on the rise.

Bordois · 08/11/2021 16:07

As long surmised, it still looks as if the UK was ahead of the rest of Europe in this particular curve.

Bordois · 08/11/2021 16:16

Theres been an 8% drop in hospital admissions for England.
