This is the DATA thread.

Our preference is for factual, data driven and analytical contributions.

Please try to keep discussion focused on these.

@Piggywaspushed

Do they actually say they are offering 3rd dose for walk ins, though?
I've been reading there is a difference between third dose and boosters is this correct, so the over 50s walk in (which the nearest is 40miles away) says that it is offering boosters, is this less of a dose?

Regards child deaths, sadly over half term a child in out MAT died of covid. They did have a secondary illness, but this did not stop them living a very normal life and unless you knew them you would not be aware they had an illness. Anyway, they have asked for media silence and have been supported due to the vitriol that was target at the parents of another child that died locally. I just feel so very sad about it all.

CallmeHendricks · 01/11/2021 11:00

I think that the list for 'underlying health conditions' seems to be quite broad and people would be surprised to find people they know "on the list" who in all main respects lead perfectly normal lives.
Either way, it must be awful to feel as if your child's death from/with (whatever!) is regarded by others as somehow less relevant.
Not stats, so I will shut up now.

BigWoollyJumpers · 01/11/2021 11:07

@Piggywaspushed

I got this too. Am guessing the websites will update later. Our local mayor and MP are very good at updating on Facebook so I shall keep an eye on this. DH is 6 months post vaccine 2 next week. We also can't get flu jab for love or money, which is Groundhog Day for us!
Where do you live? Myself and DH got our flu jabs a few weeks ago at a small local Boots, and both DD's (youngsters) got theirs over the last couple of weeks at their local Boots. We didn't have to pay, girls did.

Yes normally on MN if anyone talks about a child dying people are horrified. But mention covid and it becomes - well children die all the time. How is that supportive of parents on MN whose child may have died.
JanglyBeads · 01/11/2021 11:48

Indeed @julieca.
So sorry @Regulus.

Good point re the “everyone’s going to catch it multiple times in their lifetime” argument made here:

BigWoollyJumpers · 01/11/2021 11:53

@julieca

I got a flu jab easily, but they are inviting people based on vulnerability. So if you are in your fifties with no other vulnerabilities then you might wait a but until more vulnerable are done.
Just checked Boots locally, we must be lucky? I am jabbed already, but can get an "open" booking ie: anybody, tomorrow at several locations.

If by "Good point" you mean "being needlessly hysterical" and "in bad faith" and "accusing people who disagree with you of basically being murderers", then I agree!

JanglyBeads · 01/11/2021 12:23

You’re entitled to your view @Oldgoat2021 ….

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2021 14:03

The flu jab availability was quite a saga last year. Our GP have basically told people to stop hassling them and are veeeeeery slooowly working through the list. Last year, in order to manage this, they lobbed DH (over 50, heart condition) off the list!

As an almost direct consequence of this, every local pharmacy is massively overbooked.

Our GP surgery is just not coping . It is not big enough to manage all the demands of the massive care home and all the new estates built on its doorstep and - being a village- its already existing older demographic.

Piggywaspushed · 01/11/2021 14:04

Oh regulus that is so so sad.

julieca · 01/11/2021 14:13

@Piggywaspushed that is tough. There have been so many issues where they build lots of new housing but not the services needed. Planning law should say new houses cant be built unless there are realistic plans for the new services as well.

MarshaBradyo · 01/11/2021 14:15

Regulus that is very sad

Do you want that up here, given the sensitivity to media and likely SM

FourTeaFallOut · 01/11/2021 14:39

Is it known how long it takes for a booster shot to actually boost immunity? And, if a person had the initial 2 astrazenica jabs and a Pfizer booster, would that be the same amount of time as someone who has had two Pfizer shots earlier this year and a Pfizer booster?

Wilma55 · 01/11/2021 16:04

Data delayed until at least 5pm

RachC2021 · 01/11/2021 17:25

They’re hoping to update by 6pm now.

Notably, Waterford city, which has the State’s highest rate of Covid-19 infection, has an adult population which is 99.7% fully-vaccinated, making it one of the most vaccinated regions in the entire world

Does anyone have more details on the Irish situation, almost 1500 / 100,000 rate despite almost complete vaccination in over 12's seems high.

40k cases today. Up from 36k this time last week but I think last week's number was missing cases from Wales?

Yes, Wales didn't report last Monday, but they did report close to 5k today, so if you remove Wales figures from today the figures are down. Haven't seen any England only figures yet to make a direct comparison

Yes, the numbers are certainly high, I was wondering about more commentary on age breakdowns and stuff, the rate in their peak areas seem very high without large numbers of young kids testing positive, if it's being driven purely by vaccinated breakthrough spread (as opposed to higher numbers of unvaccinated people providing a large reservoir to get into the vaccinated) then it seems even less likely to reduce due to more population immunity.

sirfredfredgeorge · 01/11/2021 18:56

Down about a 1000 I think, slightly smaller drop than recent times, and a slightly higher LFD than recent days, which I think is expected by most with schools returning in many areas after half term. However still down week on week.

I was politely pointing out that you numbers were incorrect. I'm sure you're perfectly capable of looking for data.

Sanger have updated their variant information, here is a thread discussing it:

mobile.twitter.com/jcbarret/status/1455253927226757124

"AY.4.2 (blue) continues its slow increase (~12% most recent week). The tireless @PangoNetwork released designations for about 100 more AY lineages. Possibly interesting one is AY.43 (yellow), which is also getting more common"

The AY.43 has been increasing quickly in some Western European countries.
