When would think it reasonable for those restrictions to be eased again?

Or do you believe restrictions should be a permanent, or at least cyclical, part of life now?

Cant remember where i read the 1 in 7 figure from but a very quick google showed the study above 12.9% of children aged 2to11 and 14.5% of children aged 12 to 16

How bad the impact will be is hard to know this early after the start of the pandemic and long term analysis may show no long lasting implications. But it is impossible to say for sure at this stage.

running hot means many unnecessary deaths (not just from Covid from all those heart attacks that don't get to overwhelmed hospitals in time), including child deaths.

It means children with long covid. There is at least one (possibly two from what DD says) children in her year at school with long covid. It's not that uncommon - kids are missing school (and potentially trapped with abusive families) because of long covid not just covid or restrictions.

It means risk of vaccine resistant variants goes up massively.

It's basically a terrible strategy and seen as such by scientists the world over. Every single reputable scientist thinks it's a terrible idea to ditch ALL restrictions as we have in the UK.

@WouldBeGoodtell me more about this "over egging". More and more long COVID is now being found to be perminent organ damage due to micro clotting and vascular damage.

Unfortunately until we have a blood test available (which they are trying to develop) it's hard to know what are long covid and what numbers are caused by other illnesses.
We can only go on what our Dr's say though in my case it's a long covid diagnosis which has been improving as time goes on but I am a long way off being back to my previous exercise levels or simply living life without having to work out how energy sapping that task of making dinner or going to the playpark will be.
I hope that as research progresses it will diagnose people better and that treatments become available for this.

I don't however believe in using long covid as a reason for the rest of the population to get on with daily life (which is usually rolled out in Scottish broadcasts) though especially given vaccination shows it reduces the chances of getting it in the first place and it is very low prevalence in children. I do believe in making treatments better or in Scotlands case actually offering any!

Scottishskifun · 30/10/2021 18:22

*to not get on with daily life

WouldBeGood · 30/10/2021 18:36

Definitely not saying it doesn’t exist @Scottishskifun and o know you’ve had a bad time and are philosophical about freedom returning regardless 💐

@WouldBeGood definitely yes I know and you are right not everyone who thinks they have long covid ends up having it. There are a few on my forums who thought they had it only to find out actually they have different illnesses and some have been way more serious such as cancers. But they present similar symptoms especially the headaches, dizziness or some of the gut issues.
Unfortunately until we get that blood test its really hard to tell especially for those who didn't end up in hospital and you do feel like your constantly badgering the Dr's to try and get answers that they don't know once they rule out cancers etc.

I wouldn't want restrictions on people because I was unlucky! I would like more to be done in Scotland to help people try to get some life back if they have ended up with long covid without having to pay thousands of pounds on therapies.

It is a bit of a struggle for some people to be taken seriously though even by medical professionals which is so hard when you're constantly feeling rubbish, zero energy and have no answers on how to improve.
I'm lucky to be improving mostly and able to afford therapies which help manage my symptoms.
