Is everyone getting boosters?

Are we all meant to have the one?

If so are people here keen to have one?

devildeepbluesea · 23/10/2021 18:41

I'm 48, but if offered I'll jump at the chance.

I tend to out my faith in experts, in whatever field. In this case I tend to believe the scientists rather than Facebook or YouTube.

PandoraP · 23/10/2021 18:46

Yes a no-brainer for me.

containsnuts · 23/10/2021 18:48

I had the first two (group 6) but reluctant to have the third. Not willing to keep taking more and more just to see how many it takes to work. Agree with above that it's all very experimental and quite daunting.

Dancerinthedark01 · 23/10/2021 19:04

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

morticiamarkle honestly its only an injection. Having one every 6 months isn't really a massive inconvenience - lots of people have a contraceptive injection every 3 months, and that has all sorts of nasty potential side effects.
Gosh. I’m so amazed at the number of people who don’t care about side effects of medicine.

Is this ignorance, naivety, being the in denial? What is it?

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/10/2021 19:09

Dancerinthedark01 what are you talking about? I was replying to someone asking whether people would put up with a 6 monthly schedule and pointing out that many people go 3 monthly for a hormonal contraceptive injection which has more known side effects. Honestly if you want to worry about the side effects of drugs people take without thinking about it look into the absolutely shocking range of problems with hormonal contraceptives, or anything else prescribed primarily to women for that matter.

PandoraP · 23/10/2021 19:13

I care more about the side effects of Covid. Like death!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 23/10/2021 19:17

@Words

Definitely. The latest data on the increased protection it gives is very encouraging.

It will be Nov/Dec for me, if the rollout goes to plan.

My 90 year old mother has not had hers yet though, and was in the first cohort to be vaccinated first time round.

If it's 6 months after her 2nd, you can book the booster now. Just go online or call 119 (preferably online as the phone line is really busy). People should be notified when they are due, but plenty aren't being as it's a big system and some slip through.

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

Do you really not get what I was talking about?

You’ve just summed it up in your reply to me.

Obsidiansphere · 23/10/2021 19:41

I’ve had mine.

frumpety · 23/10/2021 19:44

Gosh. I’m so amazed at the number of people who don’t care about side effects of medicine.

You can care about the side effects of medicines and also accept that all medicines have side effects.

cptartapp · 23/10/2021 19:49

Had my booster. NHS frontline and almost 50. Will I have it every year? Mmm, not sure I will. Not until I deem my risk significant enough. Same reason I don't have the flu vaccine (yet).

meow1989 · 23/10/2021 19:55

Had mine a few weeks ago. Was awfully unwell after 2nd but booster was fine, just a bit achey.

I don't think it will stop me getting covid, but I expect if I do get it it'll be a hell of a lot milder than if I hadn't had jabs.

Dh will have his when eligible if offered.

JS87 · 23/10/2021 20:02

I’m not getting one. I’m still suffering with side effects six months later (mainly tinnitus). It worries me that eventually three doses might be required for travel but I’m hoping that might not last for ever and might only be for the next few years. As people have said about cycles I think that because of the importance of the vaccines there is a reluctance to discuss the side effects and also the side effects are also possible with covid.
I feel completely protected against severe disease with my age and two doses so unless three doses magically prevents transmission long term in a way that two doses doesn’t I don’t think they should mandate three doses for travel.

Are you asking if you are ignorant and naive? If so I personally would say yes but others might have a different opinion.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/10/2021 20:04

Only side effect was a sore arm and headache, for both vaccines

DentalWorries · 23/10/2021 20:04

I’m 29 and will get one if I’m offered. To be honest I’d get one every month if it meant we get to hold onto normality.

littlebilliie · 23/10/2021 20:10

I had mine yesterday and I'm having a big reaction I feel lousy

herecomesthsun · 23/10/2021 20:11

Maybe it is a rational and intelligent perception of the benefits as opposed to the side effects, the benefits of this being generally quite a bit greater.
winterisaroundthecorner · 23/10/2021 20:15

I will get it if I'm offered. It's a new illness. Protocol can change anytime. It won't be forever if the virus is under control. Without vaccine immunity, there will be many casualties, who may die, or have long lasting consequences. Vaccine isn't perfect, but doing their job of keep people out of hospital and death.

What I don't understand is, there are people who doesn't want to do anything to reduce the spread but complain if the country have to do something about it.

PuzzledObserver · 23/10/2021 20:28

I’ve got my appointment next Saturday. 57 and CEV - although saying that, I had Covid before being vaccinated and was not that ill, so hopefully wouldn’t be any worse if I were to catch it again.

So, why have it?

Because the higher my level of immunity, the lower the chance that I will catch it, and therefore pass it on. And since my vaccine side effects were a mild headache and feeling a bit off for 24 hours, that is something I’m willing to accept to help damp down this horrible disease.

thenightsky · 23/10/2021 20:33

Me too re the tinnitus. Awful isn't it? Plus I had 2 doses of AZ first time round, so, from what I've read, there's no point in having just one jab of Pfizer as you are not covered unless you have two.

CathyorClaire · 23/10/2021 20:37

Yes.

Dm, Dh and I are all booked in over the next week.

winterisaroundthecorner · 23/10/2021 21:10

Mixing vaccine seems to have better result, so I doubt that. And any enhanced immunity against illness is better than no immunity, imo. It's fine that you decided not to have boosters, but please don't say something like there's no point, because I really don't think it's true.

RedJet22 · 23/10/2021 21:28

I'm.49 and don't turn 50 until after March so won't be offered one under the current scheme.
I would happily have a booster if allowed.

I think the government have ballsed up the booster programme to be honest.
Seems very ad hoc and why is there such a shortage of vaccinations available again??
Why not keep up the momentum for those that do fir the criteria.

It's like the government have decided to just throw the towel in on covid. I mean we all wish for normality with no covid bollocls to contend with but ignoring its existence isn't really an ideal plan and once again, we're the country of the mass diseased......but are we or are we just testing more and more??

Malibuismysecrethome · 23/10/2021 21:37

Like a previous poster I had mine but have felt really unwell since. Sinus pain, a cold and sore throat. Was well when I walked in to have it but I’ve been bad with the first two vaccines and now the booster. I would really like to know why I react like this. I’m CEV.
