Is everyone getting boosters?

Are we all meant to have the one?

If so are people here keen to have one?

I got mine this week as soon as I was eligible. DD had covid last week and I didn't catch it off her so I'm feeling pretty lucky right now. Got my flu jab for the first time too.

I'm not sure I'm up for a jab every six months but at the same time, if the evidence shows it reduces the spread and saves lives then sobeit. I do wonder if Pfizer / AstraZeneca are working on one that's more effective against Delta now that's the primary variant worldwide.

Burnerphone21 · 23/10/2021 15:49

I'm being offered one and yes I'll get it - front line social care job

CiderWithLizzie · 23/10/2021 15:54

DH and I had ours 3 weeks ago and I’m really glad as DD had just tested positive - hoping we are well protected now (3 x Pfizer for me and 1 x AZ * 2 Pfizer for DH).

2bazookas · 23/10/2021 16:08

We had our boosters a fortnight ago (plus a flu jab in the other arm). All well and glad to have the extra protection.

toffeeshock · 23/10/2021 16:51

No but as someone in my 40s I’d happily pay for a booster like I pay for the flu jab every year.

makelovenotpetrol · 23/10/2021 17:02

Im CEV and double vaxxed but I won't be getting any boosters, no. I don't want them.

morticiamarkle · 23/10/2021 17:04

For those keen to get jab #3, are you ok with doing it every 6 months indefinitely?

Israel is already talking about #4.

Personally I am not comfortable with this. They're working it out as they go along.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/10/2021 17:09

@morticiamarkle Yes, if it keeps me in my job.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/10/2021 17:13

morticiamarkle honestly its only an injection. Having one every 6 months isn't really a massive inconvenience - lots of people have a contraceptive injection every 3 months, and that has all sorts of nasty potential side effects.

It won't be 6 monthly. It'll be yearly like the flu vaccination.

CosmicComfort · 23/10/2021 17:24

Had my booster a couple of weeks ago as I’m frontline NHS.

Now trying to avoid Covid as ds2 is positive!

I will be very surprised if long term the Covid vaccine isn’t dealt with the same as the flu vaccine.

They cannot afford to get everyone vaccinated, every year, forever.

In time it will only be available for those considered vulnerable for free. Everyone else will have the option to pay for one if they wish.

At the moment, everyone is getting one because we are still learning about the virus, plus we have to built up immunity.

How we are dealing with the virus has already changed a lot in 19 months, things will be different still in another 19 months.

Bigfathairyones · 23/10/2021 17:29

Absoflaminlutely. Had mine yesterday as had the jab earlier than most in my age group (social care volunteering).

Would you rather they would have waited a year or 2 to see how long protection lasted before they gave it to anyone? That wouldn't have been a great situation, would it? Of course, they are figuring out how long it lasts as they go along how else would you have done it?

They are making it up as they go along? What else do you think they would do with a new virus never encountered before which has been sweeping the world for 20 months and mutating each time it infects someone.

There is no written up vaccination plan as there is no way of knowing how the virus will mutate and how this will impact vaccine immunity. This is also the case for the flu - they try to predict how the virus will mutate and tweak the vaccine to match it. But it's educated guesswork.

emlouwat · 23/10/2021 17:33

Had mine 4 weeks ago

fournonblondes · 23/10/2021 17:35

No. I don't take my flu jag either. I took my first two but as soon as they announced the booster was needed I felt conned.

Exactly how I feel

flipflop76 · 23/10/2021 17:39

I'm 45 and had a bad reaction to the first two and was ill for so long. 3 months after the second jab I'm still feeling unwell with fatigue, joint pain etc so I'm not keen for a booster.
I've read though that we might need 3 jabs to go abroad in the future which would mean we can't go on holiday abroad again. Would we need yearly boosters in order to travel abroad? I've had the two jabs and have also has covid so I should have antibodies?

flipflop76 · 23/10/2021 17:40

@Dancerinthedark01

Ok - so I'm 47 - I won't be offered one I'm guessing.

I've had my first two - but actually I'm starting to feel pissed off with all of this. I thought I was doing my bit etc - thought I was protecting others and myself. But now I'm not so sure.

It's not about protecting others (much) is it? And everyone around me whose vaccinated is getting Covid too - badly - so it doesn't feel like the jabs are about protecting ourselves either.

The protection reduces so fast.

I was really ill after my second jab. Family who haven't been vaccinated haven't got Covid ... I'm starting to get disillusioned with it all.

So hope we don't get offered the booster so there's no dilemma.

Totally agree with you
BitterTits · 23/10/2021 17:42

Not on the list as I'm 44. I have between 10 and 15 covid positive pupils in my classroom per week and I want a booster come December.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/10/2021 18:22

Flu jabs are free to everyone who wants them here in Germany. Healthcare is free at the point of use and state health insurance works pretty much the same as the NHS used to, in the days when the NHS worked. Obviously we pay more from it (compulsory salary deduction, people not in work covered by the state or under the main earner in their household).

morticiamarkle · 23/10/2021 18:33

@Mynameismargot

Yes I would have waited. I'm still waiting actually. I like to know the risk/benefit of any medical procedure I'm entering into, and if we don't don't the duration of efficacy, we don't have that info.

Of course it's different in an emergency, but I'm in my 40s. The virus is not an emergency for me. If I was 75 I'd have taken the vaccine, but I'm not.

And I don't take the flu shot either: I've never had flu and there is no all cause mortality benefit (though it would appear very safe, unlike the covid ones). Just seems unnecessary,

morticiamarkle · 23/10/2021 18:34

Sorry that probs didn't answer the Q properly. A better vaccination plan would be to target the at risk & offer them boosters, until the safety picture was much clearer.

Fireyfairies · 23/10/2021 18:37

I had the first two which I was wary of, it caused my cycle to go haywire which is only recently going back to normal. I've had Covid recently and was okay so no, I'm in no rush for any more jabs that's for sure!

I am 75 and I will not submit to a booster - have no desire for foreign holidays and keep myself safe as far as possible.

My body, my choice - I had the first 2 to keep myself from dying but enough is enough.
I do have the flu jab though.
