Is everyone getting boosters?

Are we all meant to have the one?

If so are people here keen to have one?

No. I don't take my flu jag either. I took my first two but as soon as they announced the booster was needed I felt conned.

Upsky · 22/10/2021 22:10

Having mine next week. I'll happily have boosters as often as they'll let me.

BeautifulTulips · 22/10/2021 22:16

Had mine a few weeks ago as I have asthma. No side-effects at all and I am very grateful to have it. Particularly because I had AZ for my first two doses but I understand that Pfizer gives better protection

DGFB · 22/10/2021 22:18

Yes and I can’t wait. It’s brilliant to know you’re protected

Dancerinthedark01 · 22/10/2021 23:18

Ok - so I'm 47 - I won't be offered one I'm guessing.

I've had my first two - but actually I'm starting to feel pissed off with all of this. I thought I was doing my bit etc - thought I was protecting others and myself. But now I'm not so sure.

It's not about protecting others (much) is it? And everyone around me whose vaccinated is getting Covid too - badly - so it doesn't feel like the jabs are about protecting ourselves either.

The protection reduces so fast.

I was really ill after my second jab. Family who haven't been vaccinated haven't got Covid ... I'm starting to get disillusioned with it all.

So hope we don't get offered the booster so there's no dilemma.

I don't feel protected in an invincible way, I am still careful at work and when out and about, still wear masks when shopping. To me it is about reducing risk, so I wear PPE to reduce risk and I get vaccinated to also reduce the risk, I hope that if I get covid the vaccine will reduce the risk of me needing to go to hospital. If you look at admission figures it does appear to be doing that to a certain extent.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 23/10/2021 07:11

I work in healthcare and had mine last week (Pfizer) along with the flu jab. Thankfully no side effects from either.

Words · 23/10/2021 07:14

Definitely. The latest data on the increased protection it gives is very encouraging.

It will be Nov/Dec for me, if the rollout goes to plan.

My 90 year old mother has not had hers yet though, and was in the first cohort to be vaccinated first time round.

GreenWhiteViolet · 23/10/2021 07:21

I won't be having one any time soon. Had AZ for my first two, and I'd be happy with an AZ booster but apparently they aren't being offered. I don't think we have enough evidence about mixing vaccines yet and I have reservations about mRNA technology.

The AZ vaccine also fucked up my periods for months and when I mentioned it to a medical professional they essentially said I must be imagining it and have probably always had weird irregular periods but not noticed it before, so I'm not especially confident that any side effects will be taken seriously.

PieMistee · 23/10/2021 07:21

Of course the vaccine is working. Looking at the amount of deaths we had last winter with far, far less mixing of people compared to now. Yes people still get ill, but less ill. I'm late 40s but had my booster for health reasons.

SpringRainbow · 23/10/2021 07:26

I suspect eventually we will all be offered boosters. They just aren’t focusing on the non vulnerable under 50s just yet.

In time, eventually, the Covid vaccine will be like the flu vaccine. Only certain groups will get offered it as routine and anyone else who wants it can pay for it.

We just aren’t at that point yet.

LizzieSiddal · 23/10/2021 07:28

I don’t understand why people feel “conned”. Boosters have been spoken about almost from the beginning as they didn’t know how long the vaccine immunity would last for and because of variants.

I’ll be getting mine in a couple of weeks.

Mummyme87 · 23/10/2021 07:30

I had my booster end of September which was 6months post second vax. I’m a midwife so came up fast soon as released. Feel super human 💪🏻

NautaOcts · 23/10/2021 07:31

Don’t know if it’s based on the science or not but I’m sure I read the 3rd dose booster has to be at least 6 months after your last dose

Dishhh · 23/10/2021 07:31

Well, viruses can be super-sneaky can't they - especially new, novel ones. I heard they mutate!

LolaLouLou · 23/10/2021 07:32

Yep. I got my booster this week. I feel much better knowing that my risk of catching coronavirus is lower, particularly with the virus being everywhere at my child's school.

I know it is personal choice, but, to me, it is a no brainer.

UseOfWeapons · 23/10/2021 07:33

Had mine, over 50, and NHS frontline. It was more than 6 months since my 2nd vaccine, and many of my colleagues with young children were testing positive again. Would have had it anyway, as I feel I should protect myself, my elderly parents, and my patients.

MarieG10 · 23/10/2021 07:35

Had a booster this week. Apparently having had 2 x AZ and now 1 x Pfizer, the protection increases to 100%. Not sure how long it stays at that level

pooiepooie25 · 23/10/2021 07:37

I am a teacher and not 50 for 7months. Desperately want the booster and for the first time, pissed off I am not 50 yet Smile

dogwog · 23/10/2021 14:18

Don't understand all the people who are saying they have been double jabbed but have recently had covid and are desperate for the booster. If you have had covid you will be protected for at least 6 months , probably longer as it is known natural immunity is more powerful than the vaccine. Surely it would be better to wait.

Fallagain · 23/10/2021 15:35

I will be getting mine. Should be getting this 3rd jab soon but it waiting until he has stopped one of his meds.

Fallagain · 23/10/2021 15:36

It’s possible to get covid twice within 6 months. No massively likely but a possibility.
CarlaH · 23/10/2021 15:37

My partner is doing lots of socialising and I am not due for my booster for another few weeks.

I wish they would let everybody have one who wants one to be honest.

herecomesthsun · 23/10/2021 15:37

Had mine thanks

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 23/10/2021 15:41

I had a booster just over a week ago (first vaccination in January). Healthcare, mid 40s. My teens and husband have had two vaccines (not UK), only my 10 year old is unvaccinated.
