To think most people would prefer pubs and restaurants close in December than miss out on Christmas with their families again.

Plan C of the health secretaries plan if numbers continue to rise and masks and SD don't work is to ban people going around peoples homes again, surely it is better and safer as it will be less people together if they close bars and restaurants and let people have Christmas with family this year.

Sorry should say not seeing...! Wish you could edit posts sometimes.

ThesecondLEM · 21/10/2021 21:22

I personally don't care for busy pubs at this time of year and I'm hoping my new job don't expect me to go to a Christmas party. Others however, want to do this and that's their choice.

I'm vaccinated, I've done my bit, get fucked if you think my dd won't be coming for Xmas Dinner this year - GET FUCKED

sst1234 · 21/10/2021 21:23

You sound so ignorant OP, to think it’s ok to ruin hospitality sector’s earning potential and cause more untold stress to millions who work there. Perhaps think bigger than your own small circle.

ufucoffee · 21/10/2021 21:31

I'd rather pubs and restaurants stayed open. Hospitality workers and owners have suffered enough. And if I can find a pub who'll do an illegal opening I'll be there.

Stripyhoglets1 · 21/10/2021 21:51

I want them to bring back the easy stuff- masks and working from home, social distancing. And lead by example and wear bloody masks in the HOC.
I'll be seeing family whatever - after finding out Johnson and Carrie had a freind stay at Christmas when I saw no family - I will be seeing family this year whatever the rules are - so they may as well keep pubs etc open too.

Fixed that for you.

Spidey66 · 21/10/2021 22:43

OP...i think that's clear enough!

LobsterNapkin · 22/10/2021 03:23

How about neither?

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 22/10/2021 06:29

Don't know a single person who would comply this year.

LynetteScavo · 22/10/2021 06:37

I went above and beyond last Christmas and refused to see any relatives indoor. I felt it just wasn't safe enough. This year - meh. Pubs should stay open and I will be inviting family around for Christmas.

CampagVelocet · 22/10/2021 06:47

YABU.

Sceptre86 · 22/10/2021 07:07

Neither is a good strategy as hospitality as we know it will end and people just won't comply with not seeing their families. Instead it would be better to bring back social distancing and enforce the wearing of masks.

olivehater · 22/10/2021 07:10

My god no. People are spreading t in their homes not in restaurants. If anything it should be the other way around!

canary1 · 22/10/2021 07:11

The pubs and restaurants need to stay open to survive! So ‘most people’ would not agree with you at all

Yep. We were in a childcare bubble with my parents last winter, but didn’t see them over Christmas as the rules very clearly said childcare bubbles were for when care was needed only and not socialising. Why that absolute disgrace of a PM has got away with breaking his own rules (especially after everything else he has messed up with) I have no idea. I will be seeing them this Christmas.
Imnothereforthedrama · 22/10/2021 07:27

To close hospitality would mean bring back furlough which I can’t see happening so no . No lockdown I’ll just be restrictions like social distancing so rule of 6 in a restaurant/ masks etc . Like others say I can’t see anyone going along with not seeing family / friends they will just mix at home if they shut anywhere. Where I live pubs/restaurants shut on 31st October and didn’t reopen till April this year .

pinkappleorpineapple · 22/10/2021 07:31

I don't live near family and didn't travel to see anyone at Christmas last year.
My family who do all live near each other mixed (at least) 8 households on Christmas Day and more over the rest of the holidays while restrictions were on.
At that point I was glad not to live near them as we wouldn't have joined in but they would probably have just turned up.

We did go to a pub last year when they opened briefly after Christmas and it was awful chatting to the staff and owner who had ordered lots of stock for New Year's Eve but they were being forced to close again and lose a lot of money on wastedd food and beer that would go off and obviously no revenue.
I don't think I'd support the closing of hospitality again, it's too much. Even if I choose not to socialise this Christmas I wouldn't remove the choice from others.

PeriChristmas · 22/10/2021 08:50

@zafferana

I think most people would prefer that people get their bloody vaccines so we don't need to do either!
👍

I’m sure the pub and restaurant industry, which contributes significantly to the public purse and employs over a million people would disagree with you. The Christmas period represents a significant proportion of their turnover for the year. I used to work in a popular town centre pub (admitted two decades ago) but remember the manager telling me that nearly three quarters of their annual turnover was in the four weeks up to Christmas - they were busy every single night, not just Friday and Saturday.

I’m also unclear why pubs and restaurants are getting thrown under the bus (again). Where is the actual spread taking place? Who is actually testing positive? Answer - school kids.

Exactly and wasn't it shown that pubs and restaurants weren't actually a main source of spread anyhow? It was schools and large events...
hg165 · 22/10/2021 13:23

@Hemingwayscats

I honestly don’t think anyone would stick to the rules at all if they even attempted to enforce it.
But if the rules were to close pubs and restaurants, it's would be pretty hard to break the rules while the venues are closed?
Biker47 · 22/10/2021 14:23

Well done for playing your part in getting us to the peak of nearly 2000 covid deaths per day in late January.

Well nobody who I had at my house on Christmas day and boxing day had covid before, during or anytime after, so no, I played precisely no part in "2000 covid deaths per day in January", so nice try, if you want to try and hide from covid, have at it, let the rest of us lives our lives x

I don't find wdh easy at all but its slot easier than not seeing family will be this Christmas.

But surely closing pubs or restricting family visits is a harder thing for most than wearing a mask, keeping your distance and wfh.

I stick to all the rules last year and now it turns out so many MPs, including the prime minister, didn't even bother and I feel a bit daft tbh.

As long as we're healthy we will be seeing each other this year.

mogsrus · 22/10/2021 14:51

We always go out for Christmas, couldn't be bothered doing all the stuff

Hont1986 · 22/10/2021 14:55

I really don't think people would follow it. I see less and less people wearing masks, no social distancing, all that 'only go shopping once a week' stuff has completely disappeared. People just won't go back now. We've sacrificed enough.
