And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

@jennythesquirrel No one knows what is going to happen.
But there were so many on here last year saying there would never be another lockdown.
Personally, I think it is better for mental health to keep an open mind and see what happens.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:39

@Flaxmeadow

The only thing that matters now is that we don't have a winter of people dying on the floor in the hospital

This ^
And dying from want of an ambulance, prescription or any other health service

A lot of people still won't care. As long as their DC can go to an afterschool activity and they can go to the pub.
Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2021 00:42

julieca sadly yes.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:43

Jesus are ppl suggesting we lock down for the flu. Which will be worse this year due to immunity suppression caused by the lockdowns.
So we lock down due to damage caused by lockdowns.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:44

@julieca its nothing to do with the pub.

Universal free healthcare is when doctors make it a crime to see your mum every winter.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:46

@MercyBooth who knows if there will be a lockdown or not. But you are pretty thick if you still think this is just the flu.

jennythesquirrel · 20/10/2021 00:47

@julieca

i'm personally in the camp that we've had enough panic recently and i don't think it's good for mental health to worry before we know for sure.

Almostwelsh · 20/10/2021 00:48

I live in Wales. We still have mandatory masks in shops etc. Our children wear masks in school. They never stopped. Our case rates are no better than England's. Covid is ripping through our schools just like the English schools. Lighter 'easier' restrictions aren't effective.

Wearing a mask in Tesco isn't going to bring down case rates.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:49

@MercyBooth I read so much crap on here and on social media. About how soft play was essential for children's development for example.
Have people suffered? Yes. Have children suffered? Yes. But frankly, there was so much hyperbole from pretty privileged people that it sickened me.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:49

I didnt say Covid was the flu I was referring to the fact that some want lockdown for the ACTUAL flu. THATS why i pointed out the lack of immunity caused by the lockdowns. Nice try at smearing me though
Epic fail

TheEvilPea · 20/10/2021 00:49

Another lockdown would be better received than the alternative of an almost collapsed NHS and deaths nearing the 500/600/700/800 per day range for weeks as winter hits.

The NHS has aleady collapsed, effectively, except for A&E and that's even more rubbish that it was before the pandemic.

I think most people are so jaded now that they wouldn't care if the death rate increased to that level; not enough to agree to abide my another lockdown, anyway.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:49

@MercyBooth where has anyone said that? I have never seen that anywhere.

TheEvilPea · 20/10/2021 00:50
@Flaxmeadow

"That we would probably have 'rolling lockdowns' for 'at least 18 months'"

We are absolutely not told this. Chris Whitty said social distancing for at least 6 months.

Does anyone else remember being told we would be having rolling lockdowns for 18 months? Even if they knew we would, they would not have told us that right at the beginning.
Yes. I remember that being stated in the early briefings,

jennythesquirrel · 20/10/2021 00:50

i personally felt people took more social distancing care before the masks. The masks gave people a false sense of security and started to reduce their distancing.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:51

Im on the political left. But im working class left. The middle class lefties have really showed their true colours throughout this though. Lockdown meant they got to stay at home while working class people brought them things. If the latter locked down, lockdown would last about three days.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:51

@jennythesquirrel I am not panicking. Why say that?
I am saying for mental health it is better to keep an open mind, I stopped guessing what would happen next a long time ago. So not panicking, and not building a positive picture that leaves me disappointed. What will be will be.

Dishhh · 20/10/2021 00:52

I think you misread, to be fair. Nobody has stated lockdown for the flu.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:53

@MercyBooth Lots of working-class people also stayed at home. Call centres moved to home working.
There are some jobs that cant be done at home.
I do think it was appalling there was a stamp duty break, but very little support for people on low wages.

Lullaby88 · 20/10/2021 00:54

@julieca yes I agree. Infection rates can rise but people can recover at home. It's the hospitalisations that concerns the government not the infection rates. I believe if it was infection rates they were worried about then they would make masks compulsory and limit gatherings etc.
But yes it looks like the vaccine may have had some impact on hospitalisations but infection rates are still high.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:55

People will become really resentful towards the NHS if there is another one. The NHS Confederation or whoever they are cant keep making demands that ppl curtail family life.

FlatteredFool · 20/10/2021 00:56

I remember talk of rolling lockdowns too and this winter was always going to be difficult from what we knew and what people like Whitty were saying. What will be, will be, and once again we just have to make the best of it.

Silverswirl · 20/10/2021 00:57

Fuck me I had to check this wasn’t a zombie thread. It’s literally the same comments as this time last year- some of them are almost word for word
I didn’t want the jab. Had to to avoid this shit. Never ever locking down again. Ever.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:57

@Lullaby88 Hospitalisations are rising.
But people being ill will mean schools closing etc due to ill staff.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 20/10/2021 00:58

@MercyBooth

Jesus are ppl suggesting we lock down for the flu. Which will be worse this year due to immunity suppression caused by the lockdowns. So we lock down due to damage caused by lockdowns.
Are you being awkward on purpose??

Flu+covid+noro+whateverthefuckelse =overrun hospital and panic stations. It doesn't remotely matter what is driving the slammed hospitals, the point is we cannot have people dying all over the place!

Dishhh · 20/10/2021 00:58

@Silverswirl

Fuck me I had to check this wasn’t a zombie thread. It’s literally the same comments as this time last year- some of them are almost word for word I didn’t want the jab. Had to to avoid this shit. Never ever locking down again. Ever.

And the zombies are on it, too, ironically.
