And if so will they do more of the furlough and shutting things down?

Schools?

Please No!

I’m reading that this might be happening.

@MercyBooth

People will become really resentful towards the NHS if there is another one. The NHS Confederation or whoever they are cant keep making demands that ppl curtail family life.
Which is why I think we might be in for a difficult winter.
MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 01:01

of discontent

@julieca

i did say you were panicking. My post was not saying you personally were panicking but to substantiate my answer the OP who had asked the question.

*There won't be much choice if the hairdressers, pubs and shops are closed. Which reminds me I need to get my roots booked in. What are you going to do? Kidnap your hairdresser/smash your way into a pub*

Be a nation of scruffs Protect the NHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you are some celeb on Strictly or Dancing on Ice and its classed as work.

If they do this i will stop having vaccines of ANY description from New Years Day 2022.

And who exactly do you think will be most affected by you choosing not to get vaccinated?
Lullaby88 · 20/10/2021 01:12

I think with the government relaxing things so suddenly just so everyone could have an amazing summer would lead us into a mess! Ofcourse not to forget the delta variant that also messed things up for the UK.

Some people need to Mumsnet less after drinking.

One thing that I think would help is having the whole house isolate if there is a positive case in it. Early in September I was hearing of parents being ill but the children being able to go to school as normal. Obviously a few days later they have it, after spreading it to half the class.
This is one rule that really does not make sense, vaccine or no vaccine, household spread is where it's happening. This would be a lot more effective than bloody vaccine passports and a lot easier to carry out.

Sallydimebar · 20/10/2021 01:25

Sick to death of it ! . Sick of getting emails my kids have been in close contact every 2nd day . Sick of lft tests . Sick of being advised to take them for pcr . Sick of daughter having supply’s in last year when teachers have to go of with for 10 days . Or of with their own child.
Also a big thanks ! to all teachers who continue to show up everyday taking that risk every day of bringing it back to their households .

Has anyone been in their local A&E lately.. I have people sat on the floor ambulances waiting outside ,that was after trying to be referred to 2 local hospitals from urgent care centre with daughter who had suspected appendicitis so we could by-pass waiting again , but they couldn’t pick up the phone too busy I suspect.

Family friend died from it on Friday after complications from it he was unvaccinated as he thought it was nonsense spent 2 weeks in icu he was 67 no underlining conditions.

So yes seeing what the nhs is like now god help us when the flu kicks In, beds treating unvac and possibly vaccinated because who really knows how good immunity is .

In all honesty I can’t believe there is a single person out there who does not want to see the back of it now or at least get cases right low again .

Ambulance services seem to be struggling already so I'm not sure what winter will bring TBH
My boss was murmuring about me returning to work and has now backtracked and told me to stay home... been here since March 2020 Grin

InexperiencedDogOwner · 20/10/2021 01:29

There was a ten hour wait at our local a&e last week. I think this is the norm now.

Same here, got told to go home for 3 weeks in March 2020 - still sat with the laptop at the kitchen table all these months later!

There were an awful lot of posters on here complaining about not being about not being able to have having holidays and then being ecstatic when they could. I recognise you have a massive chip on your shoulder but it isn't always about class difference.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 02:48

Yes im sure the revelations about No 10 last Christmas have nothing to do with it either.

I hope not but never say never i guess

Winter 1989/90 i had urgent surgery cancelled 4 times due to bed shortages. 2000 my DH was admitted via A&E and spent over 40 hours on.a trolley waiting for a bed on a drip and vomiting frequently. 2012 DS was admitted via A&E with a serious infection and spent 30 hours on a trolley waiting for a bed. July 2017 I had a serious knee injury and waited 5 hours to be seen. September 2017 severely disabled MIL waited 6 hours for an ambulance after carers were concerned shouting severe abdominal pains. Note that the dates are all pre-covid. The NHS has been struggling for decades.
Oblomov21 · 20/10/2021 04:41

Where are you getting this scaremongering nonsense from? It's nonsense. Why are you trying to fear people? Not helpful.

That's pretty much been the norm on a semi regular basis for the last 20+ years, sorry to say. I have to wonder how many people took notice of waiting times at A&E pre-covid. I vividly remember sitting for 4hours with a child who really needed to be on oxygen and that was over 20 years ago. Why do you think they brought in walk-in centres? And of course its become even harder than ever to access a GP, so even more people are going to A&E when really they should be seeing a GP or going to a walk in centre (our local walk centre actually closed during the last year, that's one way of easing the pressure on A&E..not)
rrhuth · 20/10/2021 05:33

Comparing the situation in the NHS 2021 to previous years is completely stupid.

The crisis is worse this year, earlier and is affecting far more elective surgery.

If you won't listen to doctors on this, you're a fool.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/10/2021 05:53

Doubt it. They would have to reintroduce furlough and I can't see that happening. Schools would be the last thing to close.

I definitely think there will be a reintroduction of masks and WFH, schools possibly going back to bubbles and possibly rule of 6 and 2m distancing if things get very bad. Can't see a whole shutdown of businesses and "stay at home" orders though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/10/2021 05:59

Also lockdowns should NOT be the default to "save the NHS." Protecting the NHS is not the job of the general public and it's disgusting that it seems to be the only consideration. I do not feel the need to "protect the NHS", that is what the bloody government should be doing with the tax money we pay and if it was spent correctly then we wouldn't be in this mess. If the NHS collapses it is the fault of our PM and co, not the fault of Bob down the road not wearing a mask in Tesco.

rrhuth · 20/10/2021 06:00

Can't see a whole shutdown of businesses and "stay at home" orders though I agree.

The only thing that could possibly cause that is a full vaccine escape. Even then it would be a massive failure as we should be able to move to restrictions early enough to avoid closing schools again.
