There won't be much choice if the hairdressers, pubs and shops are closed.
Which reminds me I need to get my roots booked in.
What are you going to do? Kidnap your hairdresser/smash your way into a pub

Be a nation of scruffs Protect the NHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless you are some celeb on Strictly or Dancing on Ice and its classed as work.

If they do this i will stop having vaccines of ANY description from New Years Day 2022.

Warhertisuff · 20/10/2021 00:02

@katesbushh

The public have well and truly had enough but I have to at the people who say they won't comply. There won't be much choice if the hairdressers, pubs and shops are closed .Which reminds me I need to get my roots booked in.

I've a feeling that another lockdown won't see businesses being as compliant as they were before... I don't think they won't all meekly close up shop, but it would take something truly Earth-shattering to lockdown again, and we're not close to that yet.

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:02

I will not accept the hypocrisy There WILL be a price to pay

katesbushh · 20/10/2021 00:05

@Warhertisuff yeah I agree with this too.
I still think that most people will do what they're asked but I'll keep my ear to the ground should my roots get as shocking as last year for an underground hairdresser. Smile

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 20/10/2021 00:09

Doubtful we need another lockdown. We just need people to wear masks, distance and WFH where possible for now.
But wear a mask when you go to the shops or the office now and people look at you with disgust almost.

Warhertisuff · 20/10/2021 00:09

@Soggychip

Pandemics burn themselves out but this one is not doing that yet so masks and passports seem a small price to pay until it does.

Pandemics only burn themselves out by infecting the "fuel" (ie people!) On the basis the vaccine and restrictions enough to "snuff out the fire", keeping restrictions in place will just ensure the pandemic fire slowly burns through the population.

The idea that if only we wear masks, sanitise and isolate that Covid will get bored and stop bothering us is ridiculous.

A lot of people took the absolute piss with this....yet nothing happened 😡
toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 00:12

It's all very well saying we just need to get on and live with it, but with cases so high and with flu lurking in the background the NHS could be absolutely screwed.

Has anyone actually said that it would? The only thing that matters now is that we don't have a winter of people dying on the floor in the hospital.

toomuchlaundry · 20/10/2021 00:14

And for those saying the vaccines don't really work and I'm not going to have a booster because the Government lied etc, how much of a bigger mess would we be in if we didn't have the vaccine programme

Lunaduckdrop · 20/10/2021 00:15

No, not lockdowm. It'll be Plan B - masks, social distancing and vaccine passes like in many European countries. It will probably feel safer and freer and will not harm the economy or anybody's jobs. No need to panic-monger.

@JesusIsAnyNameFree

Has anyone actually said that it would? The only thing that matters now is that we don't have a winter of people dying on the floor in the hospital.

But that's exactly what @Soggychip was effectively saying.., that it would paradoxically "burn itself out" without actually "burning itself out".

lillylemons · 20/10/2021 00:21

my son's school has closed a week early for half term. So now we have a 2-week break

whattodo2019 · 20/10/2021 00:25

No, we are spreading it before the Winter sets in...

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:25

No one has any idea if we will have another lockdown, not even the government. If we do it won't be until hospitals are virtually overwhelmed and the public is begging for one.
MN is out of step with the general public. YouGov polls have shown a lot of support for past lockdowns when most on MN are saying it is a terrible idea.
But even without lockdowns, some kids will be home learning because there won't be enough staff. And many elective operations will get cancelled. I am on a waiting list for keyhole surgery, I suspect it could be a very long time coming.
You can demand whatever you want. But if sickness levels soar you won't have a choice. Classes and even schools may close. The effectiveness of the vaccine is wearing off in some, and remember the vaccine was to reduce people dying. It won't stop teachers being sick in bed for a couple of weeks.

Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2021 00:28

Pandemics only burn themselves out by infecting the "fuel" (ie people!) On the basis the vaccine and restrictions enough to "snuff out the fire", keeping restrictions in place will just ensure the pandemic fire slowly burns through the population.

The let it rip thing. But the problem with this is that, without some form of control, the infections, hospitalizations and deaths would soar in a very short space of time and so, in a short space of time, overwhelm health services.
It's all about the health services being able to cope

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:28

@Thewiseoneincognito

im a. childfree by choice.
b. pay £13 a fortnight OTC for Nexium Control since Zantac was discontinued.
c. pay for my Mini Pill OTC

d lost ten stone.

Ive cost the NHS a lot less than some. But another lockdown and no more.....

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:29

@whattodo2019

No, we are spreading it before the Winter sets in...
It is late October and cases are climbing very high where I live. If you look in England as a whole, cases were high in July then fell back. They are climbing sharply again. I know the idea was to spread it before Winter. I suspect that will have failed. Flu season is between December and February. That is only 6 weeks away and cases are climbing.
Lullaby88 · 20/10/2021 00:29

If things get bad and the NHS are under stress then there will be full lock down. But this depends on hospitalisations not infection rates. With the majority being vaccinated it's claimed to have reduced hospitalisation. The government's focus is we shouldn't pressure the NHS and that's all they're worried about.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:31

The idea of the pandemic burning out is obviously false. Lots of people are getting reinfected including me. Sure it is unlikely to kill people being reinfected, but some may still need hospital treatment. At the least, it means people are off work including public services.

jennythesquirrel · 20/10/2021 00:32

Nurse.....she's out of bed again!!

Stop reading bollocks. I've even stopped watching the weather. It's all lies I tell you. Just look out the window.

This is the kind of anxiety that led to punch ups at fuel pumps.

Get back into bed...

MercyBooth · 20/10/2021 00:33

This is your "no one gave a shit before klaxon"
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3764459-Boris-Johnson-refuses-to-look-at-photo-of-child-on-hospital-floor

People only gave a shit once they thought they could catch a contagious virus and became ill. The way the vote went that December is proof of that. i really think some prefer lockdowns to a raise in taxes.
Incidentally that linked thread is an even MORE interesting read now especially towards the end.

julieca · 20/10/2021 00:37

@Lullaby88 the ratio of people hospitalised to infection rates has fallen. But if cases increase hospitalisations so as well. The government claimed the link was broken. It is not.
It is still way below the levels of hospitalisation in January. And hopefully will not get to that awful rate again. But we are only slightly below the level of hospitalisations at the same time last year.

Personally, I suspect we won't reach those high rates again. But they will get higher.

Flaxmeadow · 20/10/2021 00:37

The only thing that matters now is that we don't have a winter of people dying on the floor in the hospital

This ^
And dying from want of an ambulance, prescription or any other health service
