That’s a good sign, right? :)

Well… vaccine plus masks, but minus free LFT’s and asymptomatic testing.

Tealightsandd · 12/10/2021 17:33

I encourage anyone lurking to look up how Spain dealt with and continues to deal with the pandemic. It ain't the UK 'let the bodies pile up' way.

RedToothBrush · 12/10/2021 17:34

@TheGrumpyGoat

So you do think masks will take us from 40000 cases a day to 4000 a day then?
Obviously.

Cos of course you will manage to get all 4 to 11 year olds to wear a mask correctly all day at school without complaints from parents. Not sure how they manage to eat their lunches with their masks on but yeah cracking idea. I'm sure some dickhead will come up with the bright idea of saying they can eat outside in the rain and ice of a British winter just to prove the point about how fucking laughable the idea is.

I know exactly how they dealt with it. I grew up there, my parents and siblings live there.

You mean the 'free' lateral flows that will require us to put a penny on income tax to continue doing?

You mean the 'free' lateral flows that the government are just about to bin?

You mean the free lateral flows that dont exist in some countries in the EU and have been dropped by some EU countries already?

Those 'free' lateral flows.

Yeah. Good luck with that idea. If they are still free to all in the UK by end of Jan, I will be surprised...

HairyFloppins · 12/10/2021 17:38

I was on a Facebook group the other day and someone was pleading on behalf of Spanish bar workers to leave over any left over LFT's and take boxes out with them on holiday as the Spanish bar workers can't afford to buy them. They have had very little monetary support during the lockdowns.

We have been fortunate here to have access to free LFTs. Although I think we will have to pay for them soon.

British exceptionalism.

Have you looked at excess deaths?

Spain is above Britain

RedToothBrush · 12/10/2021 17:40

The number of people testing positive will drop quickly after we stop 'free' lateral flows.

Btw this idea of free seems to be missing the concept of how the taxpayer is footing the bill for them and finances are getting a bit tight atm...

Tealightsandd · 12/10/2021 17:41

And they didn't say oh well. They took action to try to prevent more deaths. Our number of dead is one of the highest in the world.

British exceptionalism.

It is unnecessary. How long do you want children to wear them?
TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 17:42

I swear to actual god there are people on here who have never met a four year old

Yes. Better would be to lower rates of infection. Hospitalisation isn't cheap. Costs the NHS a lot of money.

Why are British children different from children around the world?

Answer. They're not.

just you
Tealightsandd · 12/10/2021 17:46

Parents attitudes heavily influence how a child perceives something. Sensible and moral countries introduced masks to children as a positive fun thing.

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 17:46

For how long should young school children wear masks?

Years? Or what

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 17:46

Answer. They're not.

Well quite. My friend in the states is deregistering her 6 year old because she's finding it too difficult to wear a mask all day. That's on top of a year of badly done digital learning. At least the U.K. is endeavouring to actually educate its children.

Sorry, I am unsure of your point. That’s exactly what I was saying… that Spain (and other EU countries) don’t use them. I didn’t have an ‘idea’.

I was explaining to @Tealightsandd that in some respects, Spain actually have fewer mitigations than us. The only thing they have and we don’t is masks.

TheGrumpyGoat · 12/10/2021 17:47

@Tealightsandd

Yes, their action has now been judged unlawful by their courts.

Nope I was thinking that too

KingsleyShacklebolt · 12/10/2021 17:48

Children in Spain were confined inside - many of them in apartments - for 7 weeks.

SEVEN WEEKS. Please let's not hold up locking up kids inside their houses for 7 weeks as something to aspire to.

I speak fluent Spanish and dip in and out of Spanish language newspapers and websites. Their track and trace system was widely held up to be total crap as each autonomous region was doing its own thing, some better than others. The only reason they had to lockdown SO hard in March 2020 was they were in such deep shit with care homes in particular - if I recall correctly the national/regional governments had to step in and run care homes as the infrastructure was so poor.

So let's not paint Spain - or anywhere else for that matter - as this utopia where everything's lovely and the government is amazing. It's back to that similarly shite argument that the UK is the laughing stock of the world and the rest of Europe can't wait for the next installment about how we are coping. The reality is they don't care.

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 17:49

Gaslighting

Tealightsandd · 12/10/2021 17:50

Children also like to copy their parents. Mum or dad has a fun doggy face or dinosaur mask. Child wants to be like mummy or daddy.

Such concern for UK children. Yet anti vaxxers are 'protesting' outside schools, intimidating and scaring the children.

Regardless of primary, England didn't even bother with secondary. Welsh and Scottish children are managing just fine. English aren't special or different.
