Is it just me or is this board getting a bit quieter?

That’s a good sign, right? :)

PingusLittleSister · 12/10/2021 09:06

I agree and think it's definitely a good sign bumbly. I took a break because I was finding some posters too aggressive and nasty. The final straw was when someone called me an anti vaxxer for disagreeing with the Covid pass plan.

There are still some people who can't help but bang the drum even on this thread, MareofBeastTown I'm looking at you. But I think most people are moving on.

MareofBeasttown · 12/10/2021 09:12

Lol. If arguing that mass vaccination has helped us move on is banging the drum, I am happy to 'bang the drum' @PingusLittleSister. Will never be apologetic about being pro vax, and if you see my post, you will see that I have very much moved on.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 12/10/2021 09:25

Agree it's quieter and also agree that's a good thing.

I do think people have moved into the "live with it" phase. We are on holiday this week in Yorkshire and life is very normal. Big horseracing meet at York over the weekend, another at Wetherby tomorrow. Busy city centres with bars and restaurants full. No requirement to wear a mask if you don't want to (and we don't want to, thanks). No constant focus on the numbers, cases per 100k, projections and graphs.

Yes there will always be people dying of Covid, just as there are people dying of everything else. We're all going to have some cause of death recorded on our death certificate.

Also agree that there have been some posters on this board whose only aim throughout was to stoke fear and anxiety.

PicklesTheCat · 12/10/2021 09:27

I have stopped reading and posting in this topic as much as I used to. As someone who is still concerned about covid, I find a lot of the posts difficult and it makes me feel more isolated.

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 09:29

Yes I think so which is good.

bumbleymummy · 12/10/2021 09:35

@KingsleyShacklebolt yes, I think more and more people are feeling comfortable without masks. There seems to be a feeling of ‘making up for lost time’. Lots of meet-ups and events planned over the coming weeks. :)

OP posts:
TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 09:36

Yes and yes that's a good thing.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the, um, retreat of a certain poster and the direct correlation between that and the change in atmosphere of this board.

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 09:37

In a more general sense, I've felt life has returned to virtually 2019 'normal' in the last few weeks or so.

Forgot to mention that we are on holiday from Scotland where mask wearing is still compulsory in all shops and indoor spaces. Still have the silly rules about wearing a mask to enter a cafe and walk to the table, but not while sitting.

So seeing lots of people out and about, in shops, bars, cafes without masks is joyful. Ms Sturgeon would have you believe that masks are the be all and end all, and that allowing people choice over whether you wear them or not is a recipe for disaster and rocketing covid cases. Which is just not what I'm seeing here at all.

vera99 · 12/10/2021 09:48

Yeah, I used to spend a lot of time on here found a lot of the information very useful my life and that of my partner is pretty much back to normal touch wood and are 60 years old double jabbed, wear masks on transport and supermarkets and that's that. Moved over to the Brexit forum where understandably that' is warming up.

Yes! Although every so often I get a bit of a jolt that we’ve basically ‘lost’ nearly two years. Things that I did in 2019 don’t seem that long ago. (Probably because we did so little over the last two years that the memories are clearer!)
OP posts:
Imwearingtrousers · 12/10/2021 09:58

Yes, it's a good thing, always the same 3 posters who will come on in their death's head masks though!

Imwearingtrousers · 12/10/2021 09:58

Yes where is Nanny come to think 🤔 of it

Rosehip10 · 12/10/2021 10:18

Probably name changed...

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 10:21

I haven't noticed anyone posting with their 'distinctive' tone and content.

The covid boards are the Brexit boards all over again.

Those with a different opinion are driven out in a barrage of abuse and insults.

Brexit board insults: thick, uneducated, can’t possibly be allowed to vote xenophobic etc.

Covid board insults: thick, uneducated, anti-vax, covid denier, conspiracy theorist, can’t possibly be permitted to participate in society.

Sams posters (some name changes)

Driven out? The board has become quiet because the covid minimisers are now the majority. If anyone else dares ask a question - the sneers and mocking is shocking. That's why the traffic is low. Not because "a certain poster" left @TheKeatingFive - although that may mean a lot less less mocking to do, I suppose.

userperuser · 12/10/2021 10:44

It’s become quiet because MN law is settled on the matter.

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 10:47

Not because "a certain poster" left @TheKeatingFive**

There was a marked change after that point. I honestly don't understand why anyone would try to deny that.

lorca · 12/10/2021 10:55

The 100-200 a day being killed by the virus sadly won't ever live their lives again. - but 10 times that number die of 'things' every day. no one seems to notice those who've died of cancers, RTAs, heart failure etc. But then only Covid counts, right?

I know people who've died of cancer, but had Covid written on the Death Cert.Hmm WTF - like Otherwise their cancers are meaningless, and people don't grieve - it's like they didn't die properly.

I'm glad we are getting back to 'normal'

I didn't deny it. I gave a reason for it. A group of posters have one less poster to mock. That generates clicks and traffic.

TheKeatingFive · 12/10/2021 11:01

A group of posters have one less poster to mock

Even if that were true, it wouldn't have an enormous impact.

One very notable stirrer was taken off the scene.

MarshaBradyo · 12/10/2021 11:02

There’s no doubt the more extreme posts get response but I’m glad it’s receded.

TheGrumpyGoat · 12/10/2021 11:06

This board is quite a negative place and has become even worse over the last few months. I think that may have scared more than a few posters off. There's no support to be found here, is there?

This is true. Anyone looking for measured debate or support soon realised this wasn’t the place for it.

Viviennemary · 12/10/2021 11:08

Possibly. I think most folk are now trying to forget about Covid. Me included.
