Am I going to die :(

My husband has just had a positive LFT.

I’m absolutely petrified. I’m extremely obese with a BMI of 40.

I am fully vaccinated but I have had two different vaccines. 1 AZ and 1 Pfizer.

I feel physically sick with worry. 😓

If being at the carvery was such a risk, why did you go?

I sat by the doors to the outside seating area, doors fully open. Also the table wasn’t close to another(which is what I requested)

I waited until the queue had gone down before I went up for food. I also wore my mask, used a napkin to touch the serving spoons and gelled my hands when I sat down.

It’s a risk but I mitigated those risks with the precautions I took.

It’s either that or I stay in forever.

So you’re comfortable with risking catching covid. Now somebody in your household has Covid, you are no longer comfortable with risking catching Covid. It could have been you who got it instead of your husband. You can be really careful but still catch it.

Iwannabelikeyouohh · 09/10/2021 10:42

@PurpleDaisies

The point I was trying to get across was that I feel I have been sensible and taking precautions.
DH on the other hand has pretty much had the attitude of “I’m getting on with life” and has been acting as though Covid has gone.

OP posts:
LIZS · 09/10/2021 10:54

But your dh is only doing what millions are. Everyone has to find a level of risk they are happy with. Your risk of catching it and any complications has not changed yet you have so far avoided it.if anything things have improved.

GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr · 09/10/2021 10:54

@Iwannabelikeyouohh I'm 49, obese (size 18/20), have rheumatoid arthritis and on immunosuppressant drugs. I caught Covid in August and was asymptomatic (I had a migraine and a few sneezing fits, that's it, but I suffer from migraines and allergies so it's probable that they were unconnected to Covid).

DH had it too but adult DD who lives with us in a tiny flat where it's impossible to isolate (you have to go through the main room to get to the other rooms) didn't catch it. We're all double jabbed.

Depressing to see the usual 'have you tried to lose weight' comments. Most obese people have tried to lose weight. Many of us can't. I have a history of EDs, for example, so dieting is fraught. My steroid medication and inability to exercise due to mobility issues doesn't help.

Most obese people would love to lose weight, but it's not always as straightforward as 'eat less, move more'.

Hope you swerve it OP but even if you don't, the risk of you becoming very ill is vanishingly small Flowers

I thought I had read somewhere that being on immunosuppressants actually offers some protection against Covid.
Maybe I’m wrong though.

Again, you're zeroing in on the one thing that might (as you say, you might be wrong) mean that it's worse for you, instead of the intended message which was overwhelmingly to reassure you. With this level of fear/fixation you have, I doubt anyone here can help you, but it must be exhausting for you and those you're around. I hope you can get more help with it IRL, but that's about your MH rather than your DH being more restrictive. If you all get it and are okay, maybe that's the only thing that will truly convince you.

But the vast majority are, even with other risk factors. Do you have access to any mh team, should it turnout your dh is positive.

Sadly not. Even before covid I had to be very vigilant and avoid people who had viral infections, and if I had any symptoms at all (coughs, sore throat etc) I had to phone the hospital.

Unfortunately for many on immunosuppressant drugs (myself included) covid vaccinations don't produce a good immune response, so we don't get the protection from them that the general population do. It's a fine balancing act between reducing risk as much as possible while still enjoying life - I still go to pubs/theatre/cinema etc, just when it's quieter. DH wfh apart from one day a week as opposed to being in the office full time. That sort of thing.

Please stop posting reassurance to the OP it is just feeding her anxiety.
OP call your doctor or therapist. If you don't have a therapist, get one.

And forgot to add... Even with the odds stacked against me (on paper), I was still asymptomatic and wouldn't even have known I had it had I not been doing regular LFTs!

@GoldFrankensteinAndGrrr

My husband had a bit of a tickly throat yesterday.

I asked him to do a lateral flow, but only because he had been around his mum who was full of cold and I was anxious.

Today he said he feels fine no symptoms (yet)

When is he likely to start feeling unwell?

LIZS · 09/10/2021 12:29

He may not feel unwell.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 09/10/2021 12:33

It absolutely does not help people with obsessive compulsive thoughts to constantly be reassured that their thoughts are wrong. It feeds your compulsions and actively makes the anxiety worse.
Please, call your therapist.

The posts are not helping you, because you are being over dramatic in your insistence you wont be okay no matter how many people attempt to reassure and help you.

Just like the million previous threads you've started and people have tried to help you on which clearly havent made a difference either.

You're being cruel to your husband, blaming him for catching covid because he touched spoons in a restaurant.

I'm overweight, asthmatic, 40 and had covid before the vaccinations and had nothing worse than a sore throat. All the overwhelming evidence shows you will likely have little more than s cold like illness.

All you're doing is feeding your own anxiety, nothing anyone on here says or has previously said will change this.

Iwannabelikeyouohh · 09/10/2021 13:01

@Nidan2Sandan

I’m sorry my posts have bothered you. I was just looking for some support.

Also, I’m not over weight. Im morbidly obese.
There is a difference and the difference will ultimately effect Covid severity.
That’s a fact.

I don't know if this will help you but even if you get it and even if you end up in hospital you won't die becasue being double jabbed will protect you.
I am very high risk and double jabbed. I got covid in August and was hospitalised. The doctors said that the vaccine would make a huge difference. While I was very ill for a while I am now pretty much fully recovered.

Iwannabelikeyouohh · 09/10/2021 13:05

@CatAlice

Really sorry to hear that. Glad you are recovering well.

Whatwentwronghere · 09/10/2021 13:07

I think he is being selfish to be honest by not staying upstairs.

If you both had the same approach to covid and were both happy to take the chance of catching it then it would be fine. But as it stands he must know how anxious this is making you and if he cared he would take himself up. What does he think people did before tvs? He'd still have his phone.

I'd go on the holiday and get out the house.
Avoid him as much as you can between now and then. People are most contagious in the 48 hours before symptoms start, which if he's going to get symptoms will probably be over the next few days.

Iwannabelikeyouohh · 09/10/2021 13:13

@Whatwentwronghere

I really want to go on the holiday but I’m worrying about if I get Covid whilst I’m there.
How would I check out etc… what would I do if I became symptomatic whilst on holiday alone with a toddler.

OP posts:
emlouwat · 09/10/2021 13:15

OP.
Have you been shopping etc over the course of the pandemic?
When my dp became unwell with covid I accepted that it was highly likely to also get it. I did and had very little more than a temp for two days and loss of smell and taste.

On learning that he had covid I did panic a bit but then reminded myself that I could pick it up at the supermarket. Try and think rationally about this. The virus is amongst us in the community but please look at the volume of people who have had it and have not died or been hospitalised.
