Are people no longer bothered by Covid….?

Is anyone actually bothered about Covid?
From places I’ve been recently, everyone is just “normal”

I took my son to a toddler class this morning.

I walked in wearing my mask. Room full of 19 other adults and their toddlers.

Not one single adult had a mask on (expect me)
There was no distancing in the class.
It was as normal as normal can be.

I joined a new slimming class tonight.

Again I walked in wearing a mask. No one else had one on.
All chairs pushed up together, people sat close.

I don’t get it.

How can we go from distancing, mask wearing, avoiding people on walks (which is exactly what it was like) to nothing….

I am still wearing masks in indoor public spaces. I do that as my job involves caring for people with Covid and I have been worried about asymptotically passing it on to others. ( the masks must be working to protect me as I have been up close and personal with Covid whilst wearing a mask for the last 18 months and not caught it)
However, I am currently in bed with Covid as DS caught Covid at school and passed it on that way 😞. I do hope that by mask wearing I avoided passing it on to others before i knew I was infected.

@Makelovenotpetrol

I've never been remotely bothered by covid.

Are you Superman?

@Dishhh no, I wish!!

I do have an explanation as to why but it's very long and I'm not typing it out again, but I posted it on the thread called 'if you're immunosuppressed and need company I'm here" should you wish.

Sorry to hear that. I'm glad that you've been vaccinated and had COVID already and gotten through okay though. I wish you all the best.

lightsout · 02/10/2021 11:25

I think we have vaccinated the vulnerable, elderly and the vast majority of other adults, so it's high time to live normally again. The ONS reckons we are at over 90% immunity with vaccines and immunity from previous infection. We are definitely at the point of "learn to live with it" by now, and they reckon it will be no more than a common cold by spring, which is great news all round really. That's enough doom and gloom and panic. Let's move forward.

TheKeatingFive · 02/10/2021 11:33

I’m not the poster in question, but I’ve never been particularly bothered by covid on a personal level either.

The data was always clear that someone of my age / state of health was at very minimal risk.

Parker231 · 02/10/2021 11:38

@Chris08

It’s all lies, hospitals weren’t stretched & there wasn’t excess deaths. Look on the ONS or ask your local undertaker.
Did you work in an NHS during the height of the pandemic? Basically you haven’t a clue what you are talking about!
Egghead68 · 02/10/2021 11:41

This is incorrect. Over 90% have antibodies. Having antibodies is NOT the same as having immunity.

Unfortunately plenty of people with antibodies catch delta and some become very sick and die.

I'm a teacher so at work every day without a mask and surrounded by hundreds of teenagers who share equipment. I can't bring myself to then put on a mask when in the company of a tiny number of others. It would be utterly ridiculous.

Caffeinette · 02/10/2021 11:42

@Testarossa so sorry to hear about your dad 💐

Um, well it would play a role in protecting others from any germs you picked up at school.

I understand where you're coming from but have you thought of protecting others outside of your workplace? A school is a good place to pick up the virus and then spread it. Remember you could also be an asymptomatic carrier of the virus and not know it unless you were taking regular LFT tests.
@Parker231 yes but the overwhelming thought process is the ‘as far as I am fine, then MY family are fine’ don’t care about anyone else….
That’s always been the case. You don’t give a shit about my or my family’s situation, do you? Unless it’s in relation to patting yourself on the back about how you’re protecting me from covid.

@Parker231

The poster was previously claiming no-one had ever died of any virus, so I would spare the typing tbh Grin

TheGrumpyGoat · 02/10/2021 12:23

On a personal level, I’ve never been bothered by Covid either. My only concern has been 1) passing it on to other people and 2) the isolation periods.

Makelovenotpetrol · 02/10/2021 12:25

@Dishhh as it goes health issues aside I'm just not the sort of person to worry about pretty much anything. Covid didn't fuss me. Not much fusses me. I can't be bothered to worry about things I can't control. Even if I didn't have other health issues it wouldn't have bothered me.

user1487194234 · 02/10/2021 12:54

Never been particularly bothered and certainly now I am just looking forward and so glad to see things getting back to normal

LimitIsUp · 02/10/2021 13:21

Do you have a problem with statistics Talktalkchat? - 1 in 20,000 is not high and as I said, it is the same as your annual risk of dying in an RTA. I take it you never travel by car / bus / coach / van?

KisstheTeapot14 · 02/10/2021 13:57

@MintJulia

I wear a mask on public transport and in Tesco BECAUSE I care & want things to be otherwise normal.

I've been double jabbed, everyone I work with has been double jabbed and my ds will have his jab on Monday.

I still don't eat out, and only socialise outside.

@MintJulia

Exactly where we are as a family too. Every week that goes by, new treatments are found, science takes a step forward in knowledge.

My aim is to try to get through winter without catching it (tricky as DS is 11 and at secondary now - who have the highest case numbers of any cohort so far in the pandemic, and I work in education too).

I have CFS so I am really keen not to get it this winter.

After that, well we'll see where we are. There are still vulnerable people out here, and we are doing our best to stay well and not add to things our bodies already have to cope with.

I do 'get it' that people want to get back to normal, but I guess my life has made me a tad more cautious. CFS seems to operate fairly similarly to Long Covid (middle age women beware you're the demographic favourite of both!) and I function at 60% of what I used to 7 years ago. I can't afford to lose more function. I just about hold on in a p-time job.

Not a pity party, just...I know from experience what can happen when your body goes wrong and doesn't get back on track again.

So yeah, temporarily meeting up outside and not going to pub is now a big price to pay. I still carry a mask and pop it on when needed.

KisstheTeapot14 · 02/10/2021 14:10
 • not a big price! More tea required.
