Are people no longer bothered by Covid….?

Is anyone actually bothered about Covid?
From places I’ve been recently, everyone is just “normal”

I took my son to a toddler class this morning.

I walked in wearing my mask. Room full of 19 other adults and their toddlers.

Not one single adult had a mask on (expect me)
There was no distancing in the class.
It was as normal as normal can be.

I joined a new slimming class tonight.

Again I walked in wearing a mask. No one else had one on.
All chairs pushed up together, people sat close.

I don’t get it.

How can we go from distancing, mask wearing, avoiding people on walks (which is exactly what it was like) to nothing….

I was pretty annoyed today. Pharmacy is 2 people in at a time which was fine. Except now nobody is wearing masks and they're still restricting it to 2 people, so I stood outside in the pouring rain with about 7 other people waiting
I mean I don't see the logic in that Confused
(I'm still wearing a mask)

Againstmachine · 30/09/2021 18:52

Nope not bothered eithier vaccinees were our way out or not. And I've had both. Back to living mostly normal.

If you want to wear mask do, if you don't don't.

NothingIsWrong · 30/09/2021 18:52

I was never bothered. I kept to the legal requirements.

If you are going to go out to baby groups, which is pretty much the definition of "getting on with life" don't be too surprised to find that you encounter people who are getting on with life...

DotsandCo · 30/09/2021 18:52

I've not been able to 'be bothered' since the start really, as a primary school teacher 🤷‍♀️

We've always had to 'just get on with it' almost every day, with practically full classes from 1st June (Year 1 teacher with almost my entire class, funnily enough, having key worker parents 🙋‍♀️)

Yes, I had to don a mask in Tesco, but it seemed a pretty pointless and arbitrary task when I'd just finished a 6.5 hour day teaching in my 'class bubble' of 26 NOT socially distanced children 🤣🤦‍♀️

(Before anyone wades in...I am in no way moaning...I love my children hugely ♥️ I'm just pointing out the actual facts of the ludicrous situation here 👍)

DotsandCo · 30/09/2021 18:53

(To clarify...1st June LAST YEAR!!)

TinaYouFatLard · 30/09/2021 18:53

I guess those of us who weren’t terrified in the first place will find it easy to go back to normal.

Topseyt · 30/09/2021 18:54

I'm just getting on with life now even though I was in the CEV category. Glad to not need the masks much anymore except in medical settings. I'm double jabbed and will have my booster when invited

We have to learn to live with this, and if not now then when? It isn't going to go away.

toooothacheee · 30/09/2021 18:55

When do you want to start going back to normal?

Do you want masks and distancing forever?

Penfield · 30/09/2021 18:56

I think people care. Obviously not everyone. But there’s nothing anyone can do from stopping it spread or catching it. So we’re all trying to live life as best we can.

ComtesseDeSpair · 30/09/2021 18:56

It barely bothered me to begin with and it certainly doesn’t now - and the attached graphs are why. The people becoming most seriously ill and dying with Covid are not anywhere close to my age group and are mostly dying of a complication associated with being old. Besides that, I’m fully vaccinated, and there were 640 deaths involving Covid in people who had received both vaccine doses in England between 2 January to 2 July 2021, which accounts for just 1.2% of all deaths involving Covid in that period.

Every adult who wants to be vaccinated has had the opportunity now. Covid should no longer be any more worry than a cold for the majority of us.

Are people no longer bothered by Covid….?
zafferana · 30/09/2021 18:57

Nope - not bothered. I never wear a mask any more unless I have to, I travel on trains, go to coffee shops, restaurants and exhibitions. If I get Covid, I get Covid, but I'm vaxed and I'll deal with it. I'm sick of hearing about it and fed up of being expected to be timid and terrified. I'm done.

MarshaBradyo · 30/09/2021 18:58

I see a few people wearing masks (school pick up/ pt if I get it) but that’s it

MissDollyMix · 30/09/2021 18:59

I do care but I have two children at two different schools- eldest is at secondary of 2000 pupils. Everyone I know who has caught Covid recently caught it via their children at school. I will still wear a mask if I’m in a situation where everyone else is but it doesn’t make any sense if I’m the only one.

lightand · 30/09/2021 18:59

In my experience, those under 60 who dont have underlying health conditions, are largely back to normal.

I live in an area with high population of the elderly. They have largely come out now, but will wear masks in shops, church, larger groups of people.

MintJulia · 30/09/2021 19:01

I wear a mask on public transport and in Tesco BECAUSE I care & want things to be otherwise normal.

I've been double jabbed, everyone I work with has been double jabbed and my ds will have his jab on Monday.

I still don't eat out, and only socialise outside.

Topseyt · 30/09/2021 19:02

Oh, and I never got the chance to shield (didn't particularly want to anyway) as the health of my elderly and very vulnerable parents was deteriorating. I had to help look after them both while my Dad was terminally ill (not with Covid).

So I've been far more concerned about things other than Covid. It has been low on the list.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 30/09/2021 19:02

I stopped being bothered a while ago and it rarely crosses my mind now. It's good to move on.

grapewine · 30/09/2021 19:03

I care, but I also want my life back. There are no restrictions where I am anymore, so while I'm not going abroad just now, I'm living my life as normal as possible. Next week I'm going to the theatre for 2the first time since this shitshow began, and I cannot wait.

I am vaccinated. It is not a cure, but it is what I waited for.

ImInStealthMode · 30/09/2021 19:05

Just getting on with life here, doing as required when required (masks in certain places where I live, PCR test when I had a symptom) but otherwise just good hygiene and living.

Any of us could die at any time from anything,

I'd rather fully live whatever amount of life I have than spend it shuffling around in fear of dying sooner.

DollyPartBaked · 30/09/2021 19:06

I was on a bus today and downstairs there was about 20 people and announcements about wearing masks - me and one other man were the only people wearing them. It used to be the opposite way around 2/20 wouldn't have masks.

I wear a mask on public transport, at nursery pick up because we've been asked to (even though it's outside) and in the shops. I've stopped wearing a mask to walk to a table in a restaurant or walk to the swimming room changing room where I then it off.

I'll keep wearing a mask whilst we are still being asked to.

Pinkchocolate · 30/09/2021 19:07

I’m over it. I’ve lost 4 family members to Covid and they were jabbed and had worn a mask every time they left the house, as did everyone who spent time with them. You can do everything “right“ and still catch it. So I believe the best thing we can do is live our lives. Enjoy our loved ones, not keep away from them. My children need to socialise, my youngest needs to learn to read facial expressions and body language; all things that are really difficult, if not impossible with masks and social distancing. I don’t wear masks any more and I’m not keeping away from anyone.

middleager · 30/09/2021 19:07

Both my children and I have had Covid now.

I caught it off my son last week. My other son had it last year.

It wouldn't matter what I did, it was inevitable school would equal Covid and this is how it entered our house both times despite me wearing masks still at supermakets and other places.

Nidan2Sandan · 30/09/2021 19:07

I've never been bothered my covid and removed my mask as soon as the mask mandate lifted and I will never wear one again (medical appointments not included).

TheGrumpyGoat · 30/09/2021 19:07

The whole of year 1 were allowed to go back from 1st June without having key worker parents weren’t they? I had one in reception and one in year 1 last year, they both went back on 1st June and we weren’t eligible for a keyworker place (our school specified that both parents had to be keyworkers and only one of us is).
middleager · 30/09/2021 19:07

And yes, I'm double vaccinated!
