Are people no longer bothered by Covid….?

Is anyone actually bothered about Covid?
From places I’ve been recently, everyone is just “normal”

I took my son to a toddler class this morning.

I walked in wearing my mask. Room full of 19 other adults and their toddlers.

Not one single adult had a mask on (expect me)
There was no distancing in the class.
It was as normal as normal can be.

I joined a new slimming class tonight.

Again I walked in wearing a mask. No one else had one on.
All chairs pushed up together, people sat close.

I don’t get it.

How can we go from distancing, mask wearing, avoiding people on walks (which is exactly what it was like) to nothing….

@Bobholll

Why would anyone doubt you *@Maskless* ? How weird you took a loada ‘footage’.. are you going to complain about it?

There have been huge festivals on this summer, Reading/Leeds, Wireless etc .. I saw several hundred drunk 20 year olds heading to Mint dance festival in Leeds last weekend on coaches. Nightclubs have been back open at full capacity since August. Same with theatres & indoor music gigs in arenas.

There are no restrictions anymore bar isolating if you have it. You can hug, kiss, dance, sing, eat and enjoy life just like Feb 2020 🤷🏼‍♀️

I took loads of film footage because I love the bands and wanted to capture their performances to watch again on my PC, maybe in midwinter when there's no festivals on here.

I also enjoyed seeing people having a wonderful and carefree time - in fact I had to wipe away a tear more than once which I shed out of sheer relief - and filmed them dancing and singing along.

And you find that "weird"?

Why would I complain about it? I was totally against lockdown, marched against it, attended the "Stand in the Parks" and am extremely sceptical about the handling of the pandemic.

I forgot to @ @Bobholll

I had covid- it was horrible. Thankfully I recovered fully.
In the school I work at, it’s like covid never happened. Makes me glad that I had it (also vaccinated) in the hope that I can get through the winter with some level of immunity. Because my work life is so normal, I go about every other part of my life normally too.

Mamanyt · 02/10/2021 00:23

I wear a mask whenever I am out in public. I will continue to do so until. I wear that mask because there is excellent evidence that, while being vaccinated will either prevent (most) variants of COVID and mitigate the worst of the Delta version, it does not always stop you from SHEDDING the virus if you are exposed to it. I wear that mask as much for the protection of other around me as I do for my own. I'm as concerned about the health of my neighbors as I am my own. I see precious little of that, and hear it even less, but I will continue to do it...until.

I’m still bothered and will be until my kids are vaccinated. 1/7 kids get long covid, 10 kids died this month and we don’t know long term effects. People are bored/fatigued but sadly pandemic not over.

Of course I am very sorry for your loss, you’ve been to hell. I have to add that the survival rate of covid is 99.8 & there is no justification in shutting a whole population down or restricting in any way. We have to live our lives & can’t run away from a virus.

itsgrand · 02/10/2021 07:18

Just going to leave this here in case anyone isn't aware. Anyone who can't be vaccinated and or tested can now ring 119 and get a Covid Pass

www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-medical-exemptions-proving-you-are-unable-to-get-vaccinated

muttimalzwei · 02/10/2021 07:46

I wear a mask when I am moving around at work in the corridors (school) where I cannot have personal space. Otherwise I don't wear one around doubly vaccinated colleagues. I keep about 2m away from kids or put a mask on if working close to them. I went to a language class last week and the tutor was wearing a mask, even though she was well over 2 metres away. I thought that was pretty pointless. I didn't want to ask for my money back but it did take away some enjoyment and interaction

DeborahAnnabel · 02/10/2021 07:51

Was only concerned by Covid for about 2 months back in 2020. Then as I say that it was mainly the okd and the immunocompromised that were dying, I wasn’t concerned for my own health anymore. Nothings changed. I assume the old and the immunocompromised are looking after their own health, as you would, you example, if you were going through a course of chemo, so presume I won’t be a risk to them either.

Barney60 · 02/10/2021 08:51

Yes i do i wear one at work all the time (hospital) and i wear one when i shop, if im in a room with lots of other people then i also wear one. Respect and manners for those around me , and there familys.
Lots of people going down with covid who are double jabbed, one lady with young children (double jabbed healthy) been in bed for a month with it.
Ive also had it , it really wasnt pleasant and i dont want it again.

janj2301 · 02/10/2021 08:53

re mask wearing it is still required on public transport (at least in London) and in any medical setting

Dishhh · 02/10/2021 08:58

Actually, you really didn't have to add that sentence starting with "I have to add ..." It made your apology hollow and meaningless.

LimitIsUp · 02/10/2021 09:34

BBC Breakfast news - research just published in the Lancet; your risks of developing serious Covid disease after being fully vaccinated is 1 in 20,000. That's exactly the same as your annual risk of dying in a car accident (albeit your lifetime risk is 1 in 240 which is scary)

Its completely rational to be no longer bothered by Covid

gingercatsparky · 02/10/2021 09:34

I was worried during the first and second lockdowns and followed the rules and wore masks etc. I didn't like going to the supermarket etc and was concerned about sending my dcs back to school after the first lockdown- dd was in one of the year groups that went back first and I felt like it was an experiment.

Now I am not. Life needs to move on. Cases were rife in my dcs school and it seemed like a matter of when not if. We are in isolation now as both my dcs tested positive and they are fine. dH and I continue to be negative. This has made me even less concerned as dcs have now had it and they are fine and if DH and I were going to get it we would have it by now. I continued wearing a mask once the restrictions were lifted for a couple of days but hardly anyone else did so I thought what's the point. I am not protected unless everyone is wearing one. I feel relieved dcs have had it now as the anticipation of it was kind of worse. Once this isolation is over I will live my life like Pre-COVID, within the rules obviously.

Eatdrinkbemerry · 02/10/2021 09:35

Can I ask a question to those that feel we still need to take precautions as it’s still out there.
When do you think it will stop being out there? Even after being double vaccinated you can catch it and pass it on. It is not going away.

With majority of population being double vaccinated and children also being offered vaccination what more can we do?

I am hearing more and more people being ill with a flue or cold right now. My guess is that now that we are out and about we are prone to catching bugs. I for one did get quite ill from a common cold (not covid) and am glad as it means my immune system had to finally fight something and it works Grin

I think a pp said it’s a matter of when I catch covid not if. I feel a lot more confident about fighting it now than I did before being vaccinated. Which is why I am going out as normal and meeting friends and family etc.

Chris08 · 02/10/2021 10:08

My point is perfectly justified. This whole country has had enough of unnecessary restrictions.

Parker231 · 02/10/2021 10:13

Everyone is fed up with restrictions however they were totally appropriate with such a highly transmitted disease. Unfortunately hospital admissions and overdue surgery is still affected due to the numbers of Covid patients being admitted to hospital.

No, they are not

That is fucking high
QueenofKattegat · 02/10/2021 10:16

Never have been "bothered" by it.

Parker231 · 02/10/2021 10:26

Talktalkchat - every Covid patient in hospital is meaning that the backlog is delayed for non Covid surgery. DH is a GP and has patients who have had their planned surgery cancelled as the hospital ward has been turned into a Covid ward.

Wizzbangfizz · 02/10/2021 10:33

Not even mildly concerned by it and hugely relieved at the pace of returning to normality.

Confused10101 · 02/10/2021 10:33

@Parker231 yes but the overwhelming thought process is the ‘as far as I am fine, then MY family are fine’ don’t care about anyone else….

DemDem94 · 02/10/2021 10:35

I'm pretty bothered by it still. Constant worry with my children back at school. Lots of cases in there schools still.
I'm CV so I still wear my mask out. Get lots of stares by people in my local supermarket, but I'm not the only person who's wearing there's though normally see half a dozen while out and about locally to me.

Makelovenotpetrol · 02/10/2021 10:44

I've never been remotely bothered by covid.
