April second jab family in their 70s are all being done this week, I presumed people meant it wasn't done in the summer for those who got both jabs in December.

herecomesthsun · 18/10/2021 10:38

It would be nice if CEV people more than 6 months from their April second jab could also get their booster- especially if they have teenage schoolchildren, given the current rates in schools...

Horst · 18/10/2021 10:47

We have a walk in clinic for anyone over six months since their last jab. Sits empty most of the time.

nonamehere · 18/10/2021 10:56

The vaccination centre where I volunteer has been doing 3rd primary and booster jabs for 3 weeks. A few of these would have had 1st/2nd jabs 3 weeks apart in Dec/Jan, but most (including us volunteers) would be Jan/ March, with a 10 week gap.

They can cant they? Our pharmacy that runs it has a QR code to scan and book in as long as you are 6 months from your last one - presumably being 6 months from it is the proof that you need

At least two CEV friends have been done as they posted it online. Any should be able to book it online if the GP doesn't get in touch, but only when it reaches 6 months from second jab. If a first or second jab was delayed then they'll be later accordingly. That's why I asked about JB saying 5 months rather than 6.
BuzzLite · 18/10/2021 11:32

@MRex I am in a hotspot area where the local high school has issued a warning to residents through the parish council. It basically says we are seeing lots of cases in school so we expect this to translate into the community in two to three weeks. Where I am most of the double jabbed parents are catching it from their children. No most are not seriously ill but it is pushing case numbers up and creating work and educational disruption.

herecomesthsun · 18/10/2021 12:25

Well I phoned my GP and 119 this morning - and tried online - I can't book, being, funnily enough in that exact situation of being CEV and 2nd jab on 17th April.

DC13 is off school with a ?cold (negative LFTs) today...

It does feel a bit like Russian Roulette.

Quartz2208 · 18/10/2021 12:53

Are any of your local pharmacys doing it - ours has a QR code that you scan and you can book from there - the only thing is that is needed is six months

I think 12-15 year olds the rumour is we are about to let them go to walk ins

littlestmunchkin · 18/10/2021 13:06

We've been sent a link to book at one of the big centres.

Shame the horse has bolted for dd! Maybe I'll take her in the new year.

littlestmunchkin · 18/10/2021 13:07

@herecomesthsun my dd was off with a cold and neg LF but she tested positive on pcr (no 'official' symptoms )

Piggywaspushed · 18/10/2021 14:52

My school sent a letter today to parents basically saying 'ummm... sorry, no flu jabs for your offspring this year'....

PrincessNutNuts · 18/10/2021 15:08

Is the pharmacy part of a national chain, @Quartz2208? My parents are overdue and I'm struggling to find out what's happening.

When Whitty said we should vaccinate 12-15 year olds, how much of a reduction in Flu Jabs was he basing that decision on?

Nope a very good family run local one that is doing it best to get everyone Covid booster and flu jabbed

My area has just announced a 4 week walk in clinic for 12-15 year olds as well starting now and running over half term to get those jabbed who want it

It seems an area thing again

Piggywaspushed · 18/10/2021 15:29

There is a distinct lack of joined up thinking. The schools did mention capacity but were ignored...as per.

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2021 15:52

I wonder if walk in centres for 12 - 15 will get a high take up

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2021 15:53

Schools might be slower but in terms of barriers it’s easy to sign a form

Harder if the centre is far away

Piggywaspushed · 18/10/2021 15:57

All the evidence from Scotland suggest walk in centres work better.

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2021 15:57

Fair enough. I guess we’ll find out.

Quartz2208 · 18/10/2021 16:35

In my area yes I think they will. The local schools that have done it so far have only managed to get to Year 9 so I think here yes it will be. Only 3 in DDs class in Year 8 hadnt consented and one of those was DD who has already had it!

DementedPanda · 18/10/2021 16:46

Large secondary school In the North east are having their flu tomorrow alongside those eligible for covid vaccine.

It's funny. England did the 1st lot of vaccs better and Scotland this bit.

But absolutely, parents who want their kids vaccinated will do so.

Getting 50% of the class vaccinated will have a big impact on the spread throughout the school.

Scotland has also been through a really rough time recently. And support support vaccination has always been high.

I am still waiting for my youngest to have most of his reception screening - he is now Y2.

And they always get their flu jabs really late compared to other places.

MarshaBradyo · 18/10/2021 17:07

One thing I was surprised at was a figure of 30k stopped infections due to vaccination of age group. Felt very low.

I think Scotland have passed the peak by now anyway which will have a big impact.

sirfredfredgeorge · 18/10/2021 17:19

Efficacy two weeks after 1 dose of Pfizer is what 30%?
Efficacy of two doses 6 months of two doses of Pfizer is what 30%?

Can you actually quantify the "big impact" as I'm not sure 30% efficacy will dampen progress much (many schools will already have that from previous infection) and with Pfizer claiming it wanes, would it not just postpone those one dose vaccinated infectious to May/June next year, ripe for exam time?

Maybe Pfizer have published better success rates in this age group than the above as obviously they are their general ones?
