news.sky.com/story/covid-19-vaccines-will-not-be-recommended-for-healthy-children-aged-12-to-15-government-advisers-say-12398444

Is anyone else glad this potential decision has been taken away? I was very much undecided about vaccinating my older dc and now feel a bit of a weight has been lifted now its not something I need to consider.

I have only said I don't really understand JCVI's reasoning specific to myocarditis risk (and this thread shows that some people now think there is a very high risk of myocarditis after the vaccine; higher than that of covid itself, akin to peoples blood clot fears earlier this year) and they should provide more detail on their data and decision making. Peter Openshaw of Nervtag doesn't understand it either. And actual members of the JCVI didn't agree.

I haven't told parents to do anything?

Check my posts back!

Find a post where I did that and told people they have to vaccinate their children.

Bullying you?

Right.

SO can we assume from that last post, that you no longer think parents should vaccinate their children, because that is what it sounds like.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 09:02

I think it is a choice. As it is for adults.

I have said so when asked by eg marsha

borntobequiet · 06/09/2021 09:03

The Legislator Daniel Hannan

Haha. The Daniel Hannan well known for his tirades on Fox News against the NHS?

(Weird how the US usage of the word legislator is creeping in more and more.)

Daniel Hannan was quoting the stats!!! Which he legally has to check

Where on earth did you get that from? Of course he doesn’t. Hannan and fact checking are not generally associated with one another.

I think it is absolutely disgraceful that we are even considering vaccinating children, who are at minimal risk from Covid, when there are millions of much more at risk people in poorer countries who simply don’t have access to the vaccine.

This is a global pandemic. We in the UK have done what we can with the resources available up to this point. I strongly believe that these resources should now be shared with those who are far less fortunate - many poorer countries are in dire straits and the prospect of having a meaningful proportion of their population vaccinated is a long way off, if ever. The pure selfishness of demanding vaccines for those who do not need them at the expense of those who do is just disgusting.

The global inequalities in access to health provision is startling, and shameful. We are no more important or valuable than those who, by chance, we’re born elsewhere.

soredust · 06/09/2021 09:13

you can still get and transmit flu after having a flu vaccine

flu vaccines tend to be less protective than covid ones

we still use flu vaccines (and give them in schools)

Flu vaccines are normally only given to the old and vulnerable.

@stepupandbecounted

It is shocking to me that you can come on here with false information, telling parents vaccines are safe and anyone that thinks otherwise is deluded/anti vax. When clearly this is not true at all.

You are not in a position to tell ANYONE that the vaccines are safe for children, because no one actually knows!!

Presumably they know vaccines for children are safe in the USA, most European countries and I dare say many others.

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/aug/04/which-countries-are-vaccinating-minors-against-covid

Why are they callously prepared to kill their children, you ask? Or perhaps, why are we so reluctant to protect ours?

And young children

No, the US and others do not have not have global safety records either. In many cases they are vaccinating children because of a high contingent of anti vaxxers putting the roll out at risk. See further up thread.

Just because other countries are fine with no long term safety data, it does not equate that we blindly do the same! Goodness gracious.

stepupandbecounted · 06/09/2021 09:18

Please produce and link the 'long term' safety records for mRNA. born

Short answer: You will struggle as they do NOT exist.

No one is bullying anyone. Some people are expressing opinions sadly deficient in factual content and making wild assertions, but they don’t include Piggy.
BewareTheLibrarians · 06/09/2021 09:22

On the point that “vaccines have decades and decades of research and testing” is it ok to say the link I posted addresses the fact that they actually don’t? Wink

Your decision not to vaccinate your kids isn’t frustrating step to me personally, but asking questions about the vaccine then ignoring any links/information despite the fact that they answer your question (and may in fact provide reassurance) is just a bit sad. In the sense that the info I posted is from scientists who work on vaccine development. It addresses the concerns that people have about the vaccine. Yet you won’t read it, despite having concerns about the vaccine. I do apologise for being very confused about your reasons for that.

soredust · 06/09/2021 09:23

I think I'd like to wait and see if there are any significant side effects or unknowns after six months to a year before I decide whether my child gets jabbed or not.

I don't think that is unreasonable considering that there have been quite a few unexpected side effects experienced by adults who have been jabbed (I am double jabbed). You don't have to be a foaming-at-the-mouth anti-vaxxer to have legitimate concerns about vaccinations on healthy children, in fact I would assume most parents have at least a small amount of doubt even if they do eventually go ahead with getting their children jabbed. Nobody should be forced to have a vaccine if they don't want to.

Thanks for that Guardian article. Shows only a handful of countries are vaccinating younger teens and there is hesitancy/controvers,y in those countries too. Also shows (as someone on here mentioned) in some countries it is to make up for the lack of adult vaccine take up which is morally dubious.
