news.sky.com/story/covid-19-vaccines-will-not-be-recommended-for-healthy-children-aged-12-to-15-government-advisers-say-12398444

Is anyone else glad this potential decision has been taken away? I was very much undecided about vaccinating my older dc and now feel a bit of a weight has been lifted now its not something I need to consider.

It astounds me the amount of people that don't research, lots and lots of respiratory viruses carry huge potential of symptoms months and months after initial infection, there's plenty of papers just with a quick google to show how common it is. This isn't covid only, the media have made out this is only covid related when I've cared for patients who still have symptoms months after "just a flu". I agree, children do not need to have the vaccine, unfortunately people have just got progressively hysterical as time as gone on, there are people that would happily have lockdowns till they died

Piggywaspushed · 05/09/2021 22:24

And, yet, here we have a vaccine that could stave off months worth of post viral symptoms for one of those viruses...

another one without a vulnerable child then...

It doesn’t guarantee protection against long covid if that’s what you’re trying to suggest.

And don’t forget that a large percentage of young people are already immune without having had any post viral symptoms.

Piggywaspushed · 05/09/2021 22:34

Nope. I am suggesting if you are less likely to get covid , you are less likely to get Long Covid.

Studies are beginning to come out that suggest that LC is coupled with greater severity of illness ad that the vaccine might halve one's chance of getting long covid, mind.

Walkaround · 05/09/2021 22:37

@concernedfriend88 - you are conveniently ignoring one glaring difference between the potential for long lasting symptoms from covid and from other respiratory infections - otherwise known as covid’s current pandemic status. If being exposed to a nasty and highly contagious virus is virtually a sure thing, you’re more likely to get a nasty, lingering cough, fatigue and secondary infections from that than a less widely circulating virus. And don’t think I haven’t noticed the humongous increase in the number of people they are pushing to get the flu jab this year either, including the entire population of schoolchildren. It seems lingering coughs, fatigue and secondary infections from respiratory viruses are actually taken extremely seriously, even if not by you.

bumbleymummy · 05/09/2021 22:38

Sure. If you’re already immune to covid after infection, you’re less likely to get long COVID too.

Respiratory viruses circulate pretty freely every year - flu, rsv etc. It’s not like it’s a new thing.

noblegiraffe · 05/09/2021 22:42

They are pretty worried about the lack of immunity to them though caused by them not circulating freely last winter.

Walkaround · 05/09/2021 22:44

@bumbleymummy - not as freely as covid is currently circulating - did you deliberately entirely fail to get the point? Or are you claiming we are also in the middle of a flu pandemic as we speak?

Walkaround · 05/09/2021 22:46

Flu jabs are designed to protect against the most widely circulating current strains - ie the ones you are most likely to encounter. We know we are likely to encounter covid- so, we vaccinate against the most likely risks.

My son has long covid (also affecting his heart). My mum has ME/CFS, thought to have started after a bad bout of flu. I’ve been going to doctors appointments with her for years trying to get it sorted out, so no, you don’t need “to be astounded at people who don’t research.” as that’s patently not true here, is it?

Point out anywhere where anyone said long covid/post viral symptoms only happen after covid? No one did. Because most people know it’s not true. Why so angry about that, when literally no-ones mentioned it? And when I’ve given examples of how badly ds has been affected, would you even think to reply like that?

AlixandraTheGreat · 06/09/2021 01:50

@bumbleymummy

Sure. If you’re already immune to covid after infection, you’re less likely to get long COVID too.

@Piggywaspushed Doesn't this just do your head in?

@bumbleymummy Obviously, having the infection in the first place would make it more likely you'll get long COVID. Not less.

Fascinated by some of the thinking on here, a bit along the lines of “don’t bother to look before you cross the road, as some people get knocked down after looking” or “don’t bother to cook food properly because some food might make you ill even after cooking” or “there are other things that might upset your stomach”.

stepupandbecounted · 06/09/2021 08:05

Parents should vaccinate if they want to, and not feel obliged if they would rather not.

It really is as simple as that.

Why we are allowing the normal processes and regulations around vaccines to be ditched in such a mighty hurry is a real concern? Every adult that wants to be vaccinated has now had the option to for months - so the 'emergency' is now over in terms of speed to roll out adult vaccines.
We do not need to apply the same 'rushed' approach to children. We have time to research, collect data and have safe guards in place because covid by and large is not fatal to children.

The vaccine rollout for children therefore needs to be slowed immediately, with the exception of CEV children, and time taken to follow normal protocols so confidence in the safety of the vaccine can be established.

It is vital that we do not lose the confidence of parents, whom may never trust any vaccine again if this goes wrong.

I am absolutely pro vaccine, for children as well in time, once a safety record is available and the data is well known on the possible harms/long term harms. Only then can we take a balanced and well informed decision for our children.

bumbleymummy · 06/09/2021 08:06

@AlixandraTheGreat 🙄 I was making the point that if you’ve already had covid without developing long covid then having the vaccine isn’t going to ‘stave off months worth of post viral symptoms’.

Not really difficult to understand.

stepupandbecounted · 06/09/2021 08:09

Especially as it appears 75% of teens have already had covid - so they already have antibodies.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 08:14

Where did you get that figure form???

Also, having had it is not the same as having antibodies.

BewareTheLibrarians · 06/09/2021 08:15

You keep saying this, and it keeps not being true. Here are the links I’ve already posted, which you keep ignoring for some reason 🧐

www.pfizer.com/news/hot-topics/how_pfizer_and_biontech_are_moving_with_safety_and_speed_to_develop_a_potential_covid_19_vaccine

I don’t believe for a second that you’re posting in good faith, because I don’t believe you’re too stupid to not understand these very simple explanations Smile

Who's the we? I'm assuming you're right at the heart and hands on with the vaccine stuff and know what you're on about? Like actually in the middle, gathering this data you've got such a bee in your bonnet about?

Otherwise, you have an opinion and opinions mean squat

I get that people are feeling so out of control of their lives and are scrabbling around for something they can cling to though. Can't blame them for that at all

But it all boils down to you and other people wanting others to take the risks for you. Like the vulnerable kids you keep mentioning positively should be vaccinated. Hmm

stepupandbecounted · 06/09/2021 08:23

And I keep telling you beware that vaccines usually take DECADES of trials, decades of huge studies and data, decades to be absolutely sure they are safe. The mRNA only had its first large study LAST YEAR, that was the very first one. It is nowhere near a proven safety record!! And yes this is NOT normal protocol!!!

I am getting very very sick of your accusations, and will report if you continue. I am posting in total good faith. YOU are ignoring the science, not me.

The mRNA vaccines do not have anywhere near enough data to be considered safe. Nowhere near. Which is why the JCVI decided against the action of vaccinating young teens.

We have to wait ffs. You can vaccinate anyway if you want to, but for the rest of us we would rather be safe thank you very much.

FfrothiCoffi · 06/09/2021 08:24

All these people who say they just want parents to have the right to choose seem to be spending a lot of time berating others for their choice not to vaccinate.

Piggywaspushed · 06/09/2021 08:25

There is nothing to report!

No guidelines broken.

Can I ask again where you got your 75% assertion from?
