Will you be angry if we end up back in lockdown?

/ harsh restrictions?

I feel so tired of this all - but mostly tired of feeling lied to by the government. The false promises - 'irreversible' 'final lockdown until science / the vaccines can save the day'

And Scotland are already floating more restrictions, only a few weeks after reopening. It's gutting. I wish they would just tell us what the probably already know is likely to happen over the next few months.

Yes because they have taken their summer recesses as normal both last year and this year despite telling us that we are living in unprecedented times. They can fuck right off.

herecomesthsun · 27/08/2021 16:12

The summer recess is supposed to be in substantial art so they can spend time in their constituencies and deal with local issues etc.

Our MP is erm slightly maverick in some respects but extremely conscientious and I think takes that bit seriously, can't answer for 'em all though.

I also won’t be complying with another lockdown. No way will I stop seeing family and friends again.

newnortherner111 · 27/08/2021 17:03

I will be angrier if any decision is weeks later than would be effective. As happened in November 2020 when it should have been October 2020.

CovidCorvid · 27/08/2021 17:08

Do people genuinely think it’s likely?

turnshavetabled · 27/08/2021 17:09

@CovidCorvid lockdown no. Restrictions yes, annoyingly.

OP posts:
Guacamole001 · 27/08/2021 17:25

Why cant we reintroduce masks as mandatory like before. It would really help IMHO.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/08/2021 17:26

I ran out of anger last November when the numbness set in which gradually faded off through June.

If we end up in that position again, I'll be emailing the GP for medication to get through the winter. Too much damage has already been done.

Surely we can not keep going back to reacting by shutting down and destroying society and the economy. It's not even working in Australia and New Zealand from their low level and we have the advantage of high levels of immunity from vaccination and exposure. The risks of serious illness and death have been significantly changed from last winter, the risks are much lower and the costs of yet another lockdown even higher than ever.

At what sort of level? Because sometimes I’m not sure what the difference is…..shutting non essential shops, etc? Shutting schools ?

Or going back to stuff like masks, isolating if you get pinged?

turnshavetabled · 27/08/2021 17:50

@CovidCorvid I'm praying it's the latter. My wedding is this winter, postponed from last!

OP posts:
Greenhand · 27/08/2021 17:52

I'm resigned to more restrictions, school closures etc.

I don't like it. I won't enjoy it and I haven't seen some family since 2019.

Why shouid we be in lockdown now?

The deaths are minimal.[/quote]
Look at Scotland.

That's the rest of the UK in a couple of weeks time if we don't do anything.

NannyAndJohn · 27/08/2021 17:57

@Waxonwaxoff0

Also Nanny is speaking from a place of being financially privileged.
I'm speaking from a place of being concerned about the health of the CEV, our key workers, and our children.
turnshavetabled · 27/08/2021 17:57

@NannyAndJohn their cases are the highest ever... deaths and hospitalisations are not. Things are not the same as Autumn or Jan.

Cue all the posts re it’s not worse than a cold and children will be fine.

I agree that seeing Scotland figures today and they still have masks etc that action is needed. Many will be too young for boosters and initial jabs will be fading for some in winter.

QueenHofScotland · 27/08/2021 18:08

Isn’t there a middle ground?

Some additional rules that reduce the spread / contain outbreaks.

Masks being mandatory. Maybe some rules about maximum numbers indoors at private gatherings (purely so that if someone positive you reduce the spread), people in your house isolating with you if you test positive - just some examples of fairly easy restrictions that would still allow for a fairly normal life.

Unless you are all having parties every weekend with 100 people at them and this would impact you significantly?!

Quartz2208 · 27/08/2021 18:11

But realistically @NannyAndJohn what do you suggest we do as a lockdown.

I'm speaking from a place of being concerned about the health of the CEV, our key workers, and our children.

I think most of us are, and are aware and concerned about the cases in Scotland and the effect of schools going back.

But exactly what is a lockdown going to achieve - NSW have been in lockdown for 2 months (and a fairly strict one) and yes cases have stabilised around the 800 mark but it isnt going down. Same with New Zealand.

Lockdowns are a measure in part to gain time to do something - the first to learn and get knowledge to create a vaccine, the second here to give out the vaccine. It isnt going to eliminate - it probably isnt going to suppress that much. Natural immunity is better than vaccine - www.swfinstitute.org/news/88036/jaw-dropping-academic-study-shows-natural-immunity-superior-to-covid-vaccine

User135644 · 27/08/2021 18:12

We won't 'lock down' but it's okay of what restrictions will come back once things go to shit again in 1-3 months time?

The thing is, when we most recently had something like those, they were not really containing outbreaks and cases were still increasing. I'm not that bothered about masks either way, have worn them in supermarkets voluntarily, but people seem very optimistic about what they can achieve.
halcyondays · 27/08/2021 18:24

I’m very pro masks but they don’t solve all our problems. NI and Scotland never got rid of them and are doing worse than England and Wales at the moment. Maybe isolation for close contacts will be brought back if things don’t improve.

That may have worked for your family...it didn't for mine.

We have about the same number of people in hospital now as when we went into Tiers last October.

There are more people in ventilation beds now than when the Tier System started.

And a slightly lower but very similar number being admitted every day as when the Tier system began.

The 7 day average of 28 day deaths was a little higher. (128 versus 108.)

I wonder how those that said they will comply (the clear minority if this were a straw poll) will feel when no one else complies. I don't think we will have anywhere near the same compliance

I know it's the obvious point but people can't go to bars/theatres/gigs/cinemas/restaurants etc that aren't open. Therefore they'll comply.
