Will you be angry if we end up back in lockdown?

/ harsh restrictions?

I feel so tired of this all - but mostly tired of feeling lied to by the government. The false promises - 'irreversible' 'final lockdown until science / the vaccines can save the day'

And Scotland are already floating more restrictions, only a few weeks after reopening. It's gutting. I wish they would just tell us what the probably already know is likely to happen over the next few months.

@Berkeys

No because I have a sense of perspective and can count my blessings. Bleating about loss of freedom is absolute petty entitled behaviour when the world is full of actual suffering. Look at Afghanistan fgs. I discount those with MH issues, poor accommodation, SEN kids etc from this of course.
What a ridiculous post. Obvious there is far worse suffering elsewhere in the world than being in a lockdown. Why does that mean you can’t be upset about it?

If you’re going to bring Afghanistan into it, it shows there’s worse suffering going on than covid so by that logic stop demanding lockdowns. So “entitled” not to want to catch a virus when children are starving in droves in Yemen, and there’s genoicide against Uighur Muslims in China. Except that most of us recognise that while covid might not be the worst thing in the world, it’s still pretty fucking horrible. So we will try deal with it, rather than saying people are “entitled” for caring about their own situation when there are others wore off.

I have family in Lebanon. It is really going to shit over there. I am so grateful to be here not there, so bloody lucky. Explain again why on earth that means I can’t be upset about it being unlawful to leave my house? Totally separate issues.

TallulahBetty · 27/08/2021 14:23

Yes, because this all could have been avoided - we opened up too much too soon and now look at us.

FindingMeno · 27/08/2021 14:25

I'm done with it all now.
The government is incompetent and I will make my own choices.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 27/08/2021 14:43

They stopped using “irreversible” when they delayed the final opening.

NannyAndJohn · 27/08/2021 14:50

I'd be relieved, actually.

Relieved that our government would be admitting that they made an almighty fuck up with The Big Reopening and are now doing the right thing.

Arguably, we should be in Lockdown at this very moment.

frazzledasarock · 27/08/2021 14:52

I won't be angry, feel desperately sorry for all those who are hugely impacted by the lockdowns downs and can't earn a living.

A little common sense on easing restrictions would allow us to carry on without lockdowns.

I am dreading winter.

turnshavetabled · 27/08/2021 14:58

@frazzledasarock winter will likely be ok, I think the plan is for everyone to have recently had it by then. Autumn will be tricky but I think we'll be left to ride it out.

@NannyAndJohn of course you want to be back in lockdown. Maybe when we finally hit 100k cases a day you'll be happy.

I don't want to be in Lockdown.

But we need to be.

turnshavetabled · 27/08/2021 15:01

@NannyAndJohn if we didn't have the vaccine and had this many cases then yes we would. Be we do and so right now, we don't.

OP posts:
notelegant · 27/08/2021 15:02

Disappointed but not angry - that sounds very dramatic OP.

There won't be anymore lockdowns. Possible localised restrictions e.g. pubs and restaurants having to limit numbers again, but nothing like we've seen.

DoubleEx · 27/08/2021 15:05

I wouldn’t be angry but I don’t think I would observe the rules as strictly. I’d still see friends and family, etc.

If our healthcare system wasn’t on its last legs we wouldn’t need to keep locking down. At some point there does need to be an alternative plan in place because multiple lockdowns are untenable and this virus will never go away now that it’s here.

You do get that lockdowns are not particularly effective tool anymore dont you? That Delta is well Delta and so transmissible that a lockdown now would simply artificially suppress cases down and probably not that effectively. So you would be kicking the can down the road. And Lockdowns are designed to do so to achieve an aim - the Australia and New Zealand ones at the moment are to increase vaccination.

Arguably I guess we could be looking to do boosters and 12-15 year olds but those can probably be done alongside things being open and the negative effects now of lockdown would be immense for very little gain.

I am talking though about Lockdown not about bringing in measures and restrictions alongside things being open there is a difference.

goingforatrot · 27/08/2021 15:08

@DancesWithTortoises

You don't really have much choice about complying, though. Not with that which is legislated - masks in shops or shop closures, closed theatres etc. We still can't have a proper GP appointment.

Those are the major disruptions and of course you have to comply. Daft to say otherwise.

I don't have to comply to mask wearing if I don't want to. I don't need any proof not to wear a mask. I can do as I please and nobody will stop me thank you

@user1497207191

My view is firmly grounded in reality, the point is we need nurses and doctors?

I know plenty of trades men who've made a packet over the pandemic, they've never been so busy. I also know plenty who've been furloughed, there are clear winners and loosers.

All self-employed were entitled to grants, unless they haven't been paying tax. I personally know a tradesman who has taken 16k in grants and has worked the whole way through the pandemic.

Of course people have suffered throughout the pandemic, I was focusing on why we are lacking nurses and doctors for ICU care , but also equally mental health services have taken a hit.

Society is not paying them properly, we can continue to ignore it but when people need treatment if it's not there, we'll we only have ourselves to blame.

There is so vaccines unfilled in the NHS, there's a reason for that.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/08/2021 15:21

But we need to be.

WTF? Just a thought, but why don't you try making the most of life while we're not in lockdown? You never know, it might make you might enjoy it.

Remmy123 · 27/08/2021 15:24

@NannyAndJohn

Why shouid we be in lockdown now?

The deaths are minimal.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/08/2021 15:28

Yes I would. And I'd ignore any rules about not seeing family and friends.

I've had Covid. We are all going to catch it at some point. You can't run away from a virus. More money spent on the NHS to handle the pandemic is what's needed.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/08/2021 15:29

Also Nanny is speaking from a place of being financially privileged.

Driftingblue · 27/08/2021 15:31

My frustration with another lockdown will be because it might be avoided with more stringent restrictions out of a lockdown. Rigorous mask rules, social distancing in stores and workplaces, reduced capacity and alteration of rules of social activities. Instead, when things opened the precautions basically became next to nothing. Why not something in the middle instead of vaccinating from one extreme to another?

Driftingblue · 27/08/2021 15:33

Vacillating not vaccinating

Yes, it would be terrible to be locked down again if could be averted with some more precautions.
Brighterblighter · 27/08/2021 15:40

No I won't be angry.

They would have to be totally desperate, to do any pick downs again so no I wouldn't be angry and if I was, who am a angry towards??

The virus?? Who what where.

We are nearly there... Nearly there I imagine this will be one more worrying winter.. Then almost ok next year..

I think though the economic effects of such restrictions cannot be understated - hospitality was suffering no end. And with Delta being so transmissible it would have been interesting to see what effects these types of measures have.

Everything is a balance - anything that slows down the spread of COVID comes with a cost. and it is looking at what that cost is against how effective the measure is in preventing.

Which is the real issue we face now - lockdowns worked against the original and Alpha strains and were there to achieve a goal - vaccinations. Delta on the other hand is a different beast entirely and what worked then may well not work now.

which is why even twitter.com/devisridhar?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

is now looking at ways of dealing with it that arent elimination or zero covid

BoomChicka · 27/08/2021 15:45

I won't be locking down again in terms of social contact with friends and family, and I'm fairly sure I'll be able to get my hair and nails done at home.. much more difficult for hospitality but if pubs are willing to open I'll go to them too. My office never closed so not much will change for me.. I'll be mask exempt this time round aswell. So the government can crack on. I'm double jabbed and just had covid - which was a cold for me.

imjustsoworried · 27/08/2021 15:51

Yes. I've been isolating more than anyone I know (still mainly isolating) due to CEV and a severe injury. I will be seeing friends in October for the first time since March 2020 because I have had enough. If it is cancelled I'll be devastated.
