Will you be angry if we end up back in lockdown?

/ harsh restrictions?

I feel so tired of this all - but mostly tired of feeling lied to by the government. The false promises - 'irreversible' 'final lockdown until science / the vaccines can save the day'

And Scotland are already floating more restrictions, only a few weeks after reopening. It's gutting. I wish they would just tell us what the probably already know is likely to happen over the next few months.

I'm a health worker and I sure as hell won't comply. I think we have to accept it's here to stay for a long time and we need to treat it like Flu
Flu figures don't get reported daily

@Wishfulthinking1977 Great post. And would like to add this.

Taxi drivers leaving the job in droves due to drop in custom in lockdowns means those ill enough to go to hospital but not ill enough to need an ambulance will have to call ambulance rather than taxi thus increasing demand.

MercyBooth · 06/09/2021 01:29

Those who would be able to get their under their own steam normally and dont drive (though obvs not a good idea to drive when you are ill anyway)

Some really good points on the last few pages. I so wholeheartedly agree that the new definition of “selfish” includes anything that the accuser personally does not enjoy or is not affected by. Our old friend on here said on another thread that socialising online was fine for young people. They clearly never were a young person or had a miserable experience as one. And I trust they met a partner online as otherwise they are a hypocrite of the highest order.

As for the hospitals - when are they ever not busy? I think a root and branch reorganisation is required, and I would start with a return to cottage hospitals for elderly care. I spent a long time in hospital in 2019. 99% of patients were very elderly, most with dementia. When fil spent a couple of months in hospital, every single person had dementia.

Additionally, I have been quite ill lately and the doctor would not see me without a negative pcr test (not a covid-symptom illness). I was nearly in tears as this meant a 2-day delay at best, so I can understand why many people must think, “F* it, I’ll just go to a&e.”

Bordois · 06/09/2021 19:15

Short "firebreaks" haven't worked in the past, so WTH would they work now?

notgotthejob · 06/09/2021 19:17

That's really worrying.

Effybriest · 06/09/2021 19:20

What's root and branch mean ? Like the 'complete overhaul' that everyone talks about on threads like these ? Hmm
Hospitals were horrendously busy during the pandemic. Standards of nursing care dipped due to the sheer number of patients and the severity of their illness. We had to rely on essentially untrained ICU nurses to help us. We missed breaks. Stress levels were through the roof. Never known anything like it in 30 years of nursing. Nowhere near winter levels of busyness.
And give young people credit. My 2 teenagers were absolutely in agreement with lockdown, they knew exactly what it was for and cracked on because they knew it was in the country's interests to do so.

MercyBooth · 06/09/2021 19:22

They have been moaning like fuck that people have put on weight in lockdown. They even have a NHS advert running about it. And now they want another one?

thenightsky · 06/09/2021 20:01

@Bordois

Exactly this. Plus furlough ends this month.
Bordois · 06/09/2021 20:31

Firebreak didn't work when Wales tried it. The 4 week firebreak we had last November didn't work either. This article is from an anonymous source full if ifs and maybes so a large mine of salt needed I reckon. Government have all sorts of contingency plans for all sorts of things, so I'm not going to worry just yet - hopefully it won't come to the need to use it 🤞

notgotthehelp · 06/09/2021 20:32

Surely all it would do is push the peak further into winter?

Bordois · 06/09/2021 20:36

Yeah. Unless of course its not a 2 week thing...

FfrothiCoffi · 06/09/2021 20:36

Haha brilliant, I thought the government couldn’t lose any more credibility but imposing another ‘firebreak’ will result in just that.
Didn’t work last time, won’t work this time.
How about they put some cash into sorting out the NHS, so that it can cope when people get ill?

notgotthehelp · 06/09/2021 20:37

@Bordois oh yikes. There's my wedding out of the window ConfusedShockno face palm emoji on here

The headline seems needlessly alarmist.

If you read the article, all it says is that the govt have a number of contingency plans in place, among them 'firebreaks' (which is almost as silly an expression as 'circuit breaker').

It would be pretty remiss of them not to do so. It doesn't mean it's likely that these 'firebreaks' will actually materialise.

Bordois · 06/09/2021 20:46

Hopefully it won't come to that - as said its a very speculative article with no solid facts.

RedToothBrush · 06/09/2021 20:48

Well that will sort out the ongoing haulage issues just in time for Christmas...

iamprobablynotyourcupoftea · 06/09/2021 20:48

Yes cause I don't want to be on my own, when I have heart surgery. Limited visitors fine. But please not another lockdown!!!

Turkishangora · 06/09/2021 20:50

If there is one I won't be complying aside from masks.
Agree with all the posters saying those who advocate lockdown are those who it doesn't hugely affect/enjoy it. I have friends who are actively pushing for a return to lockdown and who are using very tenuous reasons to isolate when they don't need to "just to be on the safe side". It's an excuse to do nothing and it's doing my head in.

Pleasantly surprised to see them admit that restrictions might be needed.

MercyBooth · 06/09/2021 20:54

Then hunger strike................here i come!

cheninblanc · 06/09/2021 20:57

I've just read the i group article. Interesting, longer October half term, masks back, social distancing and limits on numbers again. Can't see it not happening tbh. We're struggling in community nursing both with staff, patients and supply chain problems. How the nhs will sustain much more is a worry tbh

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/09/2021 20:58

They can plan all they like but I won't be complying. And before anyone says it I know I can't go to shops that are closed etc but like a lot of other people I'm sick of being told what I can do in my own home.
