Will you be angry if we end up back in lockdown?

/ harsh restrictions?

I feel so tired of this all - but mostly tired of feeling lied to by the government. The false promises - 'irreversible' 'final lockdown until science / the vaccines can save the day'

And Scotland are already floating more restrictions, only a few weeks after reopening. It's gutting. I wish they would just tell us what the probably already know is likely to happen over the next few months.

@Godwits

I'm not contemplating it, OP. Well, I wasn't until your thread came up in Active Smile What's the point? The UK is open for now so get out and enjoy the things you missed during lockdown. Winter will bring what it will bring.

I won’t be angry at any lockdown or restrictions which the science tells us is necessary. I’ll comply. I’ll be absolutely fuming yet again at our ‘government’.

orangejuicer · 27/08/2021 08:44

No I won't be angry, bit fed up but lockdowns were always an option, albeit an unpopular one. I'm in Wales though so things are a little different, cases are on the rise though.

@MrsSkylerWhite even though they have been misleading us? That makes me angry!“

Anyone who believes what the Government says is naive.
We could see what was coming from the earliest days and behaved accordingly.
The vaccines are fantastic but it’s a disease, it will mutate. It will be what it will be regardless of policy (of any Government) and we’ll be taking whatever precautions we think are necessary for our personal circumstances.
So yes, fed up but not angry.

MrsSkylerWhite · 27/08/2021 08:45

@NautaOcts they should say that then and not use silly words like irreversible and last lockdown“

Or perhaps people who believe them are being silly?

Ilikewinter · 27/08/2021 08:46

Would people comply with another lockdown though?, of course people cant to go those places that are shut but people will still mix with family and friends surely.
Plus furlough is ending so would the government suddenly put that back into place?

NantesElephant · 27/08/2021 08:46

Angry with government mishandling of the pandemic. We can’t afford as a nation to lock down again and mayhem is coming for the NHS this autumn / winter.

turnshavetabled · 27/08/2021 08:47

@MrsSkylerWhite don't be so superior. The rest of us are just so thick and you are more intelligent....

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 27/08/2021 08:51

Nope. I'm thankful that I've got to experience some normality for the past few months. Theatre trips, festivals, work, London, NORMAL. And I won't lockdown again like before. Most people won't. We have to get on with life. More people will die of cancer/undiagnosed illnesses that started in lockdown. Those of you who are all "plane load of people dying weekly"... that's NORMAL. People die of things all the time. Is covid shit? YES. But we are blessed with the vaccine which is working. We have to get on with life and living. That's my opinion. Do I feel very sorry for CEV etc - yes of course I do. This situation is a bastard.

No. The majority of people I know very quickly realised that the Government were handling the situation appallingly and took their own decisions. Nothing superior about that 🤷‍♀️

Doomscrolling · 27/08/2021 08:54

I won’t be angry, just resigned to the inevitable.

I am furious with the government’s abject incompetence - in so many spheres, not just pandemic issues. But there’s no point dwelling on what I can’t change.

LawnFever · 27/08/2021 08:55

@NantesElephant

Angry with government mishandling of the pandemic. We can’t afford as a nation to lock down again and mayhem is coming for the NHS this autumn / winter.
Have other governments really handled it much better?

Even those hailed at doing better at some points have still ended up with lockdowns.

NautaOcts · 27/08/2021 08:58
@NautaOcts they should say that then and not use silly words like irreversible and last lockdown
They can never say never, about something organic and unpredictable like this and nor should they.
Of course we all hope it will be irreversible and we need to get on and live our lives, but there are no guarantees.

I do think they will try to avoid another lockdown but was always the case that if a variant popped up that the vaccine didn’t protect against then we’re screwed again.
They even published a report talking about this possibility. Can’t remember now who did maybe WHO.

GoodMorrowFairMaiden · 27/08/2021 08:58

The only reason we’d have another lockdown is if hospitals start becoming overwhelmed again.
I’m hoping that doesn’t happen now everyone is vaccinated and many people have already had covid?

I’m sorry but I do agree with this a bit

surely the record shows that we need to take what Boris says with a pinch of salt anyway.

Carycy · 27/08/2021 09:00

Wtfisgoingon because it’s highly likely she would have been one of the overwhelming majority of people that got a bit ill and then got over it. People forget that. She could have enjoyed seeing her grandchild grow up.

Megan2018 · 27/08/2021 09:02

Not angry. Disappointed but I’ll comply grudgingly.

HappyTimeTunnelDinosaur · 27/08/2021 09:04

Not at all, as I think it might be needed at some point, I would be a bit sad though and do hope that isn't the case. However I think it would be better to have timely shorter lockdowns rather than ones that start too late and go on for months and months.

MintyCedric · 27/08/2021 09:08

I'm with @Morfin and @Godwits tbh.

I'm an antisocial bugger at the best of times and a lot of my friends/social life is online anyway.

The only thing that makes me a bit disgruntled is that between being a keyworker and caring for elderly parents I haven't had my share of hibernation, reading, binge watching Netflix and making banana bread.

In the grand scheme of things though, of course I hope it doesn't happen. I fear for the arts especially which are a passion of mine, and am hoping my mum can start to build a new social life after losing my dad earlier this year.

Palavah · 27/08/2021 09:14

I won't be surprised. As soon as the words 'irreversible' came out of his mouth you could feel the scientists flinch. He is incapable of not lying. He'd do it for sport.

Whether it's desirable/necessary is another matter.

oneglassandpuzzled · 27/08/2021 09:28

I don't think Boris is lying when he says things like irreversible or one-way.

He himself believes it's the truth for the five minutes as he says it, sincerely, passionately. He'd pass a lie-detector test.

Then five minutes later he's moved on to the next truth. There's no continuum of truth, no need to caveat or hedge. It's so frustrating and we all know how it goes.

TheSunnySide · 27/08/2021 09:36

Nope

I think lockdowns work when cases start to spiral out of control.

However I think a return to mask wearing / social distancing / bubbles and and closing of clubs would be a compromise.

After months of being told that schools are not spreading the virus I think September will be interesting.

Hekatestorch · 27/08/2021 09:38

I won't be angry. If they close schools between home schooling and work, I would stick to it by default.

It just is what it is. Boris said irreversible. Then quickly back tracked because everyone knew, no one could guess what was going to happen.

Lots of variables to consider.

Silvercatowner · 27/08/2021 09:38

I don't think we're being deliberately misled. I don't think anyone in the government is bright enough to do that. I consider the decisions being made show a fundamental lack of understanding of how society works, and the value of scientific knowledge. This is underpinned by a huge dollop of selfishness and self serving behaviour.
