Will you be angry if we end up back in lockdown?

/ harsh restrictions?

I feel so tired of this all - but mostly tired of feeling lied to by the government. The false promises - 'irreversible' 'final lockdown until science / the vaccines can save the day'

And Scotland are already floating more restrictions, only a few weeks after reopening. It's gutting. I wish they would just tell us what the probably already know is likely to happen over the next few months.

Funny how the £20 uplift in Universal Credit is being stopped. Do you reckon many of those affected would comply. Would they even be able to afford to?! And why should they? Why should they comply when no one gives a shit about them.

@Delatron

‘Even if you don’t like the idea’ I’ve heard it all now.

Only on here do a small handful of people love lockdowns.

@herecomesthsun we know how much you like restrictions and mitigations. But you don’t actually come out and say which ones and for how long do you? As you’d need to justify their effectiveness.

Most restrictions have been lifted now. Travel is still a massive pain. But I went abroad this year and last. A bit of mask wearing. Very little social distancing. Do you honestly think a small number of people who carry on to modify their behaviour will have any impact on this virus? I don’t. Modify your behaviour for yourself but most have moved on.

No I don't like restrictions and mitigations.

I have said at some great length what I think about them too. see also Chris Whitty and JVT on masks & the 3Cs. I agree with them

Most people are still modifying behaviour re mask wearing etc.

Yes it has an impact on infection, combining measures will help the good effect of the vaccines.

Most people are still modifying behaviour, wearing masks etc, according to surveys from August.

Cheers

Delatron · 03/09/2021 15:22

The small scale household mixing is where most of the spread is though. They can’t police that and people will not stop seeing friends and family with no long term reason (ie don’t kill your granny/flatten the curve/roll out the vaccinations).

herecomesthsun · 03/09/2021 15:23

Sorry I don't like restrictions but they have their place in a pandemic so I would go along with what Whitty JVT etc have advised.

herecomesthsun · 03/09/2021 15:24

It's based on personal responsibility now though, so I'm quite willing to do what I can to take responsibility.

Delatron · 03/09/2021 15:24

A bit of mask wearing in supermarkets really isn’t having the impact you think it is @herecomesthsun but if it makes you feel better.

To be fair I wore a mask in the supermarket today as it’s no skin off my nose. About 40% were. Down from about 80% a few weeks ago. People on trains aren’t wearing them. It really is reducing day by day.

Mybalconyiscracking · 03/09/2021 15:26

I will be furious and will follow as few strictures as is practical.

Bizawit · 03/09/2021 15:36

And anyone can WFH. All you need is a laptop and you're set

What about jobs that don’t involve/ require more than a laptop Confused. Absolutely barmy comment.

Bizawit · 03/09/2021 15:37

Pretty sure the plumber couldn’t fix my toilet at home on his laptop 😂

Bellagonna · 03/09/2021 15:40

After Dominic Cummings and Matt Hancock's role modelling Id hope the government are too embarrassed to ask anyone to lock down again

Bizawit · 03/09/2021 15:40

*The government can control the virus or they can let the virus back them into lockdown after lockdown.

Those are the options*

But they aren’t the only options though.

Delatron · 03/09/2021 15:41

I’d love to do my job (which involves face to face with a large group of people) on a laptop. It can’t be done. Be less tiring and lovely if it could though.

I couldn’t work through lockdown so earned pretty much next to nothing. It’s so self-absorbed to think everyone is like you. At home merrily taping away on a laptop whilst the shopping is delivered...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/09/2021 15:47

@NannyAndJohn anyone can work from home? Are you for real? I work in a factory that makes sofas. You actually think that can be done at home?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/09/2021 15:48

Have you any idea what long term working from a sofa will do to your back? Lack of support, for lumbar spine, wrists etc. Lack of the screen being at eye level. Tiny screens leading to squinting.

I'm sure Nanny has said in the past that she's a manager. Sod working for someone who thinks it's acceptable for their staff to work on a laptop on the sofa. I have suspected carpal tunnel since I've been working from home and that's with my company doing all they can.

Employers have a duty of care to their employees to ensure they have a suitable working environment. I'm not seeing many offering to pay for people to upgrade their living accommodation to achieve this.

I was told by Nanny that working from home will mean those of us 'currently living in squalor' will be able to afford somewhere nicer. Apparently not having a spare room equates to squalor.

I have teenage children in my house during my working hours. Should they accept a permanent limitation on what they can do in their OWN HOME? Having friends round, hanging out etc.

I don't have children but DH has spent most of his time in the bedroom reading as he doesn't feel he can sit in the living room when I'm on calls. I've told him to do what he likes, work will have to accept my living arrangements (and they do because I have a good manager).

Delatron · 03/09/2021 15:49

I think with the ‘anyone can work from home statement’ nannyandjohn lost any remaining credibility that she had...

I've seen posts from her on another thread saying she is well off and able to work from home. She doesn't give a fuck about people in hospitality, retail, etc, losing their jobs due to lockdowns because it doesn't affect her.
Delatron · 03/09/2021 15:54

Yep @Waxonwaxoff0 it all comes out eventually!
I mean all those nurses and doctors in ICU really should be parked on the sofa on their laptops. The delivery drivers, hospitality, theatre.
Jesus.

She said that WFH is good because her 'team' don't waste any precious working time on 'chit-chat'.

Although I'm not altogether sure that it's not all a massive wind up.

Bordois · 03/09/2021 15:56

Careful i got a deletion for pointing out how blatant its becoming.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 03/09/2021 15:58

I will be pissed off but it’s what I’m expecting, I really thought 2021 would resemble some normality but looks like if we have another lockdown, then this will go into 2022 so 2023 is going to be the next normal year!! Grrrr

Nicknacky · 03/09/2021 16:03

@Bordois So did I. I told her that she needed to get out more and realise it isn’t “carnage” out in the world and I was deleted. Although Nanny had freely stated previously that she doesn’t leave the house unless absolutely necessary so I wasn’t saying anything that was untrue. It was bizarre.

And I really think we need to stop engaging with Nanny and several other posters like her. It isn’t healthy for any of us but it’s difficult not to bite!

Agree with that. She distorts every discussion she's on, and it's because we let her. And John too.

Delatron · 03/09/2021 16:13

I do sit here thinking that lurkers are reading this thinking ‘stop engaging with her’ 🤦‍♀️ . I’m going to try very hard now.

Chillychangchoo · 03/09/2021 16:58

I do agree that there are certain posters on here (I think we all know one or two) that should be ignored. It’s not healthy engaging with them and they’re not displaying healthy behaviours themselves so we need to stop feeding them.

Jourdain11 · 03/09/2021 16:59

I absolutely agree that anyone can work from home. What's to stop bricklayers using the time to polish their tools or manufacture bricks and cement in the living room? We, personally, have thrown away all our chairs and tables and are working from laptops on the sofa, taking healthy breaks to look out of the window to keep watch on any neighbours who might be going outdoors in a socially-irresponsible way.
