Will you be angry if we end up back in lockdown?

/ harsh restrictions?

I feel so tired of this all - but mostly tired of feeling lied to by the government. The false promises - 'irreversible' 'final lockdown until science / the vaccines can save the day'

And Scotland are already floating more restrictions, only a few weeks after reopening. It's gutting. I wish they would just tell us what the probably already know is likely to happen over the next few months.

@fairydust11 could you link to where you read there will be another lockdown?

I don't know for certain what will happen but the evidence suggests we won't - evidence as in scientific predictions? Not, it happened last year so will happen again.

nynynynyny · 03/09/2021 11:44

@fairydust11 and you honestly think the government are locking down as a form of control?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/09/2021 11:45

or we could adopt a reasonable middle path, with vaccines / mitigations/ working from home/ masks when appropriate. That seems to be what a very large number of people are doing, doesn't it?

What do you mean by mitigations? When the WFH part is mentioned I think this comes from someone with a nice home office not those of us without the means to do so properly.

I never said I read it anywhere specifically it was my opinion in answer to the ops question?
From your responses I am aware you don’t agree there will be another lockdown - which is fine we can agree to differ.

Masks, SD, Rule of Six etc. But given the situation we're in, we're going to need more drastic measures like the closure of all non-essentials and no more indoor mixing.

And anyone can WFH. All you need is a laptop and you're set.

rc22 · 03/09/2021 12:22

I'd be upset but not angry.

Delatron · 03/09/2021 12:25

What’s the end goal of your ‘mitigations’ and restrictions? Because the NHS is coping fine and the death rate is low. So what’s the purpose and the strategy here?

If it’s to get cases low. What happens when you release the restrictions? I’ll give you a clue; cases shoot up.

So rule of 6. No weddings, no parties, no big family celebrations. What a life to live. For how long would you like this to go on for? And when will you deem it ok to stop these restrictions?

Think through and justify what you’re saying. Otherwise it’s all a load of crap really.

FfrothiCoffi · 03/09/2021 12:30

I mean… I’m not sure if that’s a joke, or if you genuinely have no idea how the world works?

I mean, it’s not quite as clueless as the ‘lockdown was great for women’ line she was spouting a few weeks ago. But yeah, imbecilic.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/09/2021 12:35

That would make you so happy wouldn't it? Why do you think it's acceptable to tell people who they can and can't have in their own home?

And anyone can WFH. All you need is a laptop and you're set.

Your posts are getting more and more ridiculous. Have you ever heard of DSE risk assessments? Of course you need more than a bloody laptop! You really do live in cloud cuckoo land.

NothingIsWrong · 03/09/2021 12:45

You really are clueless aren't you. You need somewhere safe and decent broadband. Many MANY homes do not have that.

nynynynyny · 03/09/2021 12:49

"And anyone can WFH. All you need is a laptop and you're set"

Much like your other mantra - "Anyone can be a epidemiologist. All you need is a MN account and you're set"

@NannyAndJohn

NannyAndJohn · 03/09/2021 12:53

Because the NHS is coping fine

No it isn't!

and the death rate is low.

No it isn't!

And you really don't need all mod cons to WFH. Friends of DS are working from the sofa as they don't have room for a desk in their studios. They seem to be coping ok.

Bully for them.
DH needs 2 monitors and various other equipment to do his job properly. The only place he can fit that is in our living room. The living room that is our only living space, and 3 days a week im at home with a toddler. We also live in an area with shit broadband, which means he’s thrown out of 9 out of 10 zoom meetings. We’ve done 19 months of this now, it’s taking a toll on everyone. And we have it ‘good’ compared to a lot of my friends and family.
Where do you work from, @NannyAndJohn?

FfrothiCoffi · 03/09/2021 13:01

But regardless of all that, it’s such a ridiculous thing to say anyway Grin. You know of course that not everyone does the same job? And different people in different jobs need different things to be able to work effectively?

PrincessNutNuts · 03/09/2021 13:03

Thousands dying a month isn't low.

The NHS is "coping" by postponing as much as it can in order to cope with the thousands being admitted with covid every week.

Numbers remained low after the April relaxation.

It was May 18th, when some of the four tests were failed but the government opened up anyway, that started things doubling again and set this all in motion.

@NannyAndJohn many people have jobs where they can’t work from home. It really isn’t that simple. I’ve noticed your posts and drawn the conclusion that you must be a plant or a wind up merchant because no one could be so utterly stupid.

Have you uttered the immortal words “ cases are SKY HIGH “ yet in this thread. That seems a beloved phrase of yours?

Also, what's the evidence that these 'mitigations' - which might not be too 'minor' for many - will really help? And what is the end goal for all 'mitigations' to be dropped?
NannyAndJohn · 03/09/2021 13:14

@Bordois

And yet there will still be people who deny nanny is a troll, despite increasing evidence to the contrary 🙄
I am so very sorry for agreeing with top scientists on how to deal with a global pandemic.
nynynynyny · 03/09/2021 13:16

@NannyAndJohn why don't you ever answer the question on what you hope to achieve by spending your days on here? What's the end goal?

You aren't open to discussions or seeing others view points.

many people have jobs where they can’t work from home.

I never denied that.

But the actual practice of WFH is far less complicated than some are trying to make out.

TheKeatingFive · 03/09/2021 13:17

for agreeing with top scientists on how to deal with a global pandemic.

You don’t though.

I don’t see any ‘top scientists’ saying we should live as holograms forever. Which appears to be what you advocate.

FfrothiCoffi · 03/09/2021 13:17

‘Leading scientists’ do not agree that the pandemic has been ‘good for women’, not unless they don’t believe all the data that says the exact opposite.
And anyone with half a brain (and I’d hope that a ‘leading scientist’ would come under this definition) knows that it’s not true that ‘anyone can work from home as long as they’ve got a laptop’.

PrincessNutNuts · 03/09/2021 13:19

After 20 months the world knows which NPIs work.

Everyone knows, surely?

It's anything that reduces our number of contacts to restrict the opportunities for covid to spread, and basic infection control for an airborne pathogen to restrict the opportunities for covid to spread.

Ventilation
Masks
Social distancing
Working from home

Testing
Contact tracing
Isolation of contacts

Whatever level of mitigations we had in place between April 12th and May 18th gave us our lowest numbers all year.
