TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 22/08/2021 08:48

Work (in a school)

VaguelyInteresting · 22/08/2021 08:48

Oh other people I know-

Work - care home; corporate office
The pub during the euros
School

Againstmachine · 22/08/2021 08:49

Most people will not know where they got it and will only be guessing.

glitterelf · 22/08/2021 08:49

I've not had it but those I know who did one caught it in the hospital she worked in and sadly lost her life. Three others caught it in the pubs on a night out celebrating a birthday. Fours others caught it at a kiddies birthday party and just recently one caught it on a summer camp.

Onandoff · 22/08/2021 08:50

Me: work (hospital) or commuting to work. March 2020 so no masks.

DH: work or commuting to work. May 2020.

DD: friends. Aug 2021

Relatives: 4 close relatives in my mum who died. Caught from each other Dec 2020.

80% of staff at work caught it. 2 close colleagues died aged 40 and 58. I think we lost 8 staff overall. A lot more were ill enough to be intubated but survived. We have staff in covid clinics with heart or lung inflammation who have been left disabled.

Key workers were total cannon fodder, especially at the beginning. Was interesting to see the jobs that were most essential to life carrying on were paid the worst in society. Sad really.

1 In London from a friend who had been to football at Wembley.
2 In Newquay at pop festival .
And 3 working on a respiratory ward.

Popplebop · 22/08/2021 09:15

I avoided catching Covid at work (hospital) and double vaccinated. Had a week off at the start of August and now have Covid. Either from camping break (in tent with own family- no one else positive) or out and about outside at the coast.

Oldpeoplesprinting · 22/08/2021 09:27

How does anyone actually know where they got it from though? You can’t possibly know. I have never understood this… it’s presumption, not fact.

WetBench · 22/08/2021 09:32

Outdoor family gathering.

Bobholll · 22/08/2021 09:32

I caught it from the removal men when we moved house in December.

itsgettingwierd · 22/08/2021 09:33

I took some kids to a swim comp who had spent the half term skiing in Italy with the school.

A week later I had cough, temp, tight chest and loss of sense of taste and smell. This was early March before testing and before loss of smell was even a thing!

This was only out together as very likely covid and very probable transmission why co incidence when chatting to ds neurologist a few months later and he asked if we'd had it!

bigbluebus · 22/08/2021 09:45

Nephew - pub quiz with student friends. His parents caught it from him later .
Godson - from the gym. His parents both caught it from him.
Friend's adult DD - from a socially distanced singing group at music college.
Friend - from her FIL who had just been discharged from hospital (recently not in last year's height of the pandemic).
Acquaintance - in a bar during the Euros.

I know more people who have tested positive for Covid in the last 2 months than I have in the entire pandemic.

RuthW · 22/08/2021 09:51

Dd is a teacher and brought it home.

somethingischasingme · 22/08/2021 09:52

School/ school bus.

Sugarandtime · 22/08/2021 10:06

@Topttumps

Work I suspect mainly. The common factor being frontline work so all those I know either caught it at a hospital, school or childcare setting. It annoys me that my retired conspiracy theorist relative is going on about all the vaccinated catching it but she does what she likes and hasn’t. Well maybe it is because the vaccinated ones have greater exposure as they work.
You do realise that a huge number of people who have had the injections also work. Not sure why you would write what you did, seems very odd.
Sugarandtime · 22/08/2021 10:08

I meant to say a huge number of those who have had the injections don’t go out to work but are still contacting the virus.
Don’t think the virus care if you work or not

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/08/2021 10:08

my dd probably caught it from her bf who had a new hospital portering job and caught it

my other dd worked in a testing centre but went out to bar in a city and caught it

afaik i have not caught it

TheVanguardSix · 22/08/2021 10:13

DH is a GP. Face-to-face appointment with a patient. This was last Christmas.

Lots of families in DD's year got it in May. We didn't. Don't know why. Thankful it gave us the swerve because nearly every family across 2 year 6 classes got it.

My friend's a hospital nurse, so it's obvious where she got it from.

My friend's family currently has it- her DD18 tested positive last week. She'd been clubbing and partying since A levels results day.

shouldistop · 22/08/2021 10:14

Nearly everyone I know who had confirmed cases caught it in hospitals, care homes, medical procedures or appointments.

OnlyFlans · 22/08/2021 10:16

From work in Feb- March 2020.

We had a team meeting and 2 of the team had recently come back from a multi- stop trip overseas - including to somewhere that was later recognised to be a COVID hotspot at that time. They both felt 'rough' at the meeting but put it down to the effects of travel and jet lag.

Everyone at the meeting went down with COVID symptoms shortly afterwards.

There was no testing available to most people then, but the 2 staff that ended up in hospital tested positive and some of us paid for antibody tests later on- also all positive.

LittleMachine · 22/08/2021 10:17

I'm a teacher in a large school - most of the staff who have had it have caught it from each other.

My 9 year old has it at the moment, I think he caught it at the gym. He went to indoor football and there were lots of kids playing on half an indoor pitch. He didn't go anywhere else indoors.

MareofBeasttown · 22/08/2021 10:19

Hard to say but DS who has it likely caught it on the Tube since he is not clubbing or partying.

Chanel05 · 22/08/2021 10:20

University
Office worker.

marplemead · 22/08/2021 10:20

School - DH is a secondary school teacher and a student in one of his classes tested positive just before they broke up for the summer. It led to 3 weeks of isolation - first as a close contact, then he tested positive and then our daughter tested positive.
