How 'safe' do you feel?

Are you minimising your potential risk of covid?

How different is your life now than in typical years to 2019?

I think I'm mainly curious about whether people's life is different anyway after the last 18 months....
I know mine is. I went shopping yesterday and struggled with the lighting, the lack of available seating etc ... And I'm unlikely to be keen for a repeat experience for a while, so the way I spend my time is likely to be a lot different anyway, without even taking covid itself into consideration...

Are differences because things are slow to start up? because you've formed new habits anyway? Out of not wanting to contract covid/have to isolate/anything else.

@illuyankas

I don't think vaccinated people feel like vaccines are 100%, and they are the cautious ones ime, who are not saying everything is back to normal, feel safe, etc, as you can see from this thread.
An elderly and CEV friend of the family has Covid symptoms and has insisted she can't be as she is double jabbed. She has gone to visit other elderly and CEV family after dosing herself up on paracetamol. She wont even get tested. Insists the jab means she can't have it.

@Arsebucket
Please report any suspected side effects to the yellow card scheme (when you are feeling well enough and are able to).

nowayjose3, although that's true about viral load about positive cases of vaccinated and unvaccinated being similar, there are quite a big difference in numbers that could catch the virus in the first place for vaccinated and unvaccinated. So, I think you are the one who are not understanding this, and I am sick of it too, really.

I was so happy to read this. Could you please share the study which proved this and what are the actual numbers.
I had a discussion with a friend over the weekend and spent the whole day today trying to find any concrete scientific evidence on this and didn't find much. It needs to be specific to delta as that's what we are dealing with mostly now.
Thank you so much

I'm in Australia in NSW currently in lockdown. Can I ask a question to UK people please?
Did you guys have advertising campaigns about getting vaccinated?
Did you have daily media briefings by your "leaders"?
Every TV and radio channel is very strongly pushing vaccinations, to the point where it's getting ridiculous.
They don't have enough anyway. They keep taking them away from the regions and giving them to Sydney. The next push is 20/39 year olds.

Greenrubber · 15/08/2021 21:53

@Aldilogue

Yes it's been heavily pushed here! Even if you have had covid they still tell you that you should get the vaccine!
And vaccine passport etc it's rediculous

The one radio station I listen to has the odd advertisement in about getting vaccinated. I don't watch any television or anything so if there are other campaigns, I don't know. I am sure someone else can answer this better for you. We did get letters in the post, and texts too. I have had 3 letters and lost count of the texts. We had daily briefings early on but not anymore.

I feel lucky I don't have a TV licence and only watch Netflix. Seems I've missed everything Grin.

Flowerlane · 15/08/2021 21:57

Unvaccinated here - at the beginning I was very worried, I am also a high risk. I had to work all the way through so nothing really changed for me.

My life is still the same I have just come back from a uk holiday, having big days out such as theme parks and zoos, I am seeing friends and family like before etc. I make sure I give people space in shops when in queues etc as I expect others to do to me I also make sure I regularly sanitise my hands.

So yes I feel safe.

How 'safe' do you feel?

Well... I have a 1 in 20,000 chance of being hit by a car, a 1 in 250,000 chance of dying from covid, and a 1 in 1,200,000 chance of being struck by lightning.

So pretty much... as safe as I have always felt.

Are you minimising your potential risk of covid?

No. Pretty happy to take my chances with the risks and have been for a long time.

How different is your life now than in typical years to 2019?

Right now? I miss going on holidays. Schools are back next week so time will tell, but I've heard they've stopped the bubble system so if that's the case then I can't imagine it being much different other than the fact I'm significantly poorer 😑.

DrNo007 · 15/08/2021 22:05

I’ve not been vaccinated and feel perfectly safe. I’ve had covid and while it was a bit ‘sticky’ and dragged on for a few days, I contacted my homeopath and got rid of it in 48 hours by taking a homeopathic remedy. (Many mumsnetters freak out about homeopathy so I won’t be trying to defend myself against the inevitable attacks—not worth the trouble.)

So I am not scared of this virus. But I should add that I do respect it can be serious for the very few. With that in mind I take high dose vitamin d, c and zinc every day and work to keep my weight at a healthy level.

Life for me is back to normal now the mask obligations are mostly gone except the difficulty of foreign travel which in many respects is still a pain in the butt even for the double vaccinated.

illuyankas · 15/08/2021 22:07

@MrsBillyNoJagNoMates
I have read many recently, but couldn't be bothered now to find the one I have read, so I googled, and this came on top.

Believe it or not, is up to you.

whythooo · 15/08/2021 22:09

@XenoBitch Actually, I did do more pre-Covid (like sit in a cafe for hours and draw, that sort of thing) but I wont do it now... not because of Covid but for being judged for hogging a table for ages, especially when many cafes just wanted people to stay for the bare minimum time. Maybe things are back to normal in that respect, I don't know.

Yes! Absolutely this. I used to take my laptop to Costa and work there in the mornings. Tried it when they opened back up and I didn't even take my laptop out because that was just not the vibe at all.

I haven't been back and frequently wonder when it's going to become acceptable again?

If not, I'm seriously thinking about getting an office as soon as the kids are back in school because WFH is unbearable after an entire year of lockdowns.

FromEden · 15/08/2021 22:09

I feel fairly safe. If I'm going somewhere I think might be particularly risky then I wear an n95 mask. I've been to a full sporting event and a show since things opened here and eaten in restaurants regularly for the past year. We are coming down off the surge now where I am, but I probably won't eat out until cases are lower. I prefer to make my own decisions about the risks I'm comfortable taking. Trying to hold out for novavax

housewifeathome · 15/08/2021 22:13

I'm unvaccinated and pregnant - due to give birth in the winter so a bit jittery! That said, DD2 had Covid not too long ago (it went through the school) and we all isolated but I didn't catch it.

Went on holiday (UK) recently and didn't wear a mask once and all good. Have been to A&E and many hospital appointments due to baby needing additional growth scans.

Will probably take additional precautions when the schools go back.

Really pleased to see this thread as I really do feel in the minority by not having had the vaccine.

ilikecheesecake · 15/08/2021 22:16

Im jabbed and oh got his first the other day but not to feel safe or protect others.
we live life like like normal and still would be living normally if we were not jabbed.

Hotpinkangel19 · 15/08/2021 22:17

I've had one vaccine and chose not to get the second. DH had his first and ended up in A&E a couple of days later. He's unsure about his second.
I wear masks and sanitise.

CrunchyCarrot · 15/08/2021 22:17

I'm unvaccinated.

How 'safe' do you feel? I feel safe now, I didn't at the outset of the pandemic, I was terrified. I got Covid in July 2020 asymptomatically, I still have antibodies now. I realised I had been worried unnecessarily.

Are you minimising your potential risk of covid? Yes, well I'm house bound anyway but I would still be cautious if I went out.

How different is your life now than in typical years to 2019? It's actually better. My partner now works from home whereas before he was away a lot. I do much the same as always at home, except I probably have spent too much time on the Coronavirus subject!

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/08/2021 22:19

My oh. My Exh. And one of my sisters all have declined the vax
They are all continuing life totally normally
No masks. No social distancing no sanitizer

Exh is just recovering from covid which he said was ‘like a cold-The flu I had was way worse’
All are relying on their immune system

Slimmingstar · 15/08/2021 22:25

I’m gathering, hugging people, just been on holiday to Europe for 10 days, shopping, eating out……. Don’t feel unsafe at all. I understand Covid is a thing but I’m very fit, healthy, slim…….. I see no need to curtail my life in any way. It’s for living, not hiding.

Arsebucket · 15/08/2021 22:32

Yes, I will be reporting symptoms.

I’ve been in urgent care and then A&E since 3pm.

I’m shocked at all the people who are in after having the vaccine. People forget that people talk to each other. So many here with the same symptoms as me after having one of the jabs.

So how rare is it to have problems? People here are scared and questioning what the hell they have done to themselves.

I started a thread when I had mine last saturday. Told i’d done the right thing for my health.

If only I could turn back the clock.

MrsBillyNoJagNoMates · 15/08/2021 22:38

illuyankas
Thank you for that
Yes, that's the study I found as well.
There doesn't seem to be another one which takes delta into account
I have no reason not to believe the study
Might not like that they only did it on group of people who were between 18 and 65 years.
I also didn't find the difference between just under 8% and just under 4% of testing positive that massive (even though it does, statistically lowers it by 50%)
Hence me asking if there is any other different recent study available which I missed.
Thank you for your time to reply
Will stop derailing the thread now

AlexaShutUp · 15/08/2021 22:48

I know three people who have chosen not to be vaccinated - one couple and a single person.

The single person is scared of the vaccine and scared of covid. She is quite cautious and avoids most places. I think she struggles with anxiety more generally, and the pandemic has really shrunk her world. I feel very sorry for her.

The couple are essentially covid deniers, or at the very least, covid minimisers. Initially, they refused to believe that it was real. Deep down, I think they might still believe that, but they stopped saying it to me when I said that I knew a couple of people who had died from covid. They now say that they're confident in their immune systems' ability to fight it off. They're anti mask, anti test, anti vax. They don't take any precautions. Frankly, I think they're batshit.
