How 'safe' do you feel?

Are you minimising your potential risk of covid?

How different is your life now than in typical years to 2019?

I think I'm mainly curious about whether people's life is different anyway after the last 18 months....
I know mine is. I went shopping yesterday and struggled with the lighting, the lack of available seating etc ... And I'm unlikely to be keen for a repeat experience for a while, so the way I spend my time is likely to be a lot different anyway, without even taking covid itself into consideration...

Are differences because things are slow to start up? because you've formed new habits anyway? Out of not wanting to contract covid/have to isolate/anything else.

Not worried about it at all so I guess that means I feel ‘safe’?

It doesn’t even cross my mind if I’m meeting people/going out etc.

Spacecadetagain · 15/08/2021 20:30

I’m not able to have the vaccine for medical reasons - I had covid last year and have covid - I’ve been very anxious tbh .. and medically if I could be vaccinated I would be but I’d probably still feel fairly anxious right now . I’m not a social butterfly and nightclubs and pubs are something I wouldn’t go to .

Spacecadetagain · 15/08/2021 20:30

Have long covid that should say

I don't think you fit the criterion Op talks about, you are not vaccinated but not by choice. People like you are the ones we should protect as a society.
@XenoBitch

I'm sorry to hear that things are a struggle at the moment. For what it's worth, the chain cafés were quite quiet when I ventured into my nearest city on Saturday and would have been fine to sit and draw.

The sense I got, comparing how eerily quiet my last visit there was last March when the anxiety was palpable was that people were relaxed and happy and keen to enjoy a day out.
Thanks. My favourite cafe is keeping their booking system, but it is good to know other places are back to normal. I shall try to venture out and treat myself :)

nowayjose3 · 15/08/2021 20:47

sorry illuyankas but the vaccinated are not protecting anyone considering that if they get infected they carry the same viral load as the unvaccinated according to the CDC and PHE. Hopefully soon people will realize this and ditch this vaccine passport nonsense and the spiteful and hateful attitude to those who do not wan the vaccine as the vaccine protects YOU, not anyone else. I am so sick of people not understanding this. The amount of vaccinated people I have spoken to that are not aware that they can spread it or even become infected is frightening.
And I am from now on going to wear a n95 mask rather than the surgical masks, avoiding anything indoors that is crowded with no windows open. and taking vit d, Zinc, etc

RoseAddict · 15/08/2021 20:48

Surely most unvaccinated people have caught it by now? I’ve had it twice. I know a fair number of unvaccinated and they’ve all had it by now as have several double vaxxed people I know and most of my DC’s friends. So no, not particularly scared of it and no nothing has changed.

55378OO8 · 15/08/2021 20:50

I'm vaccinated and I'm not especially worried about covid. There are some things that I haven't restarted doing because I realised that I never actually liked them much - in person shopping. Covid has made me realise that I can get by perfectly well without. Other things such as camping holidays I was doing the first weekend they were allowed.

illuyankas · 15/08/2021 20:53

nowayjose3, although that's true about viral load about positive cases of vaccinated and unvaccinated being similar, there are quite a big difference in numbers that could catch the virus in the first place for vaccinated and unvaccinated. So, I think you are the one who are not understanding this, and I am sick of it too, really.

Well, I felt far safer unvaccinated than I do sat in A&E now awaiting blood, ecg and chest x-ray results 8 days after AZ.

I wasn’t going to have it. I had to if I wanted to go back to work. The searing pain in my head and breathlessness are telling me no job is worth it.

Greenrubber · 15/08/2021 21:13

@illuyankas

I'm not vaccinated and do not plan on getting vaccinated
Even if the uptake was slow I would not get vaccinated
I felt my risk of severe covid was small and I do not mix with any vulnerable people
I stuck with the guidelines social distancing, masks etc
I have not been protected by the vaccinated I have recently just had covid

I think people should be allowed to make their own choices why do you not?

Being vaccinated does not mean you can no longer pass covid onto someone else or get it yourself
Alot of vaccinated people are now carrying on as they did pre covid and alot of unvaccinated people are still taking safety measures
If you have so much faith in the vaccine then why do you care about people who are not vaccinated?

illuyankas · 15/08/2021 21:20

I really don't care, tbh, @Greenrubber. Only thing I really care about is covid still being spread around come September, and may put my child in danger.
So, if it slows down and people feel safe, that's great for me.

bumbleymummy · 15/08/2021 21:25

Is your child CV? Children are very low risk:

kowari · 15/08/2021 21:26

@Sanblasamor

I won't be getting vaccinated and don't feel any different to 'before'. I've had covid and have antibodies for now. I do anything I would do before.
Same.
Greenrubber · 15/08/2021 21:26

@illuyankas

Well I'm due to give birth in September and I feel like people who are vaccinated will have no boundaries because they think the vaccines are actually 100% effective I would prefer more cautious people in my life

Peeceandquite · 15/08/2021 21:26

No I don't feel unsafe, never have. I haven't changed anything I'm doing and am not taking any particular precautions. I've been to the pub several times, and various other places.

I don't want the vaccine but expect I will end up having it eventually for travel, although I'm still clinging on to the hope that it will be scrapped. I agree with @nowayjose3

Greenrubber · 15/08/2021 21:28

Unless your child has health condition (hopefully not) or is a newborn I'm sure they will be fine my 4 yo had a temp and after one calpol was fine

illuyankas · 15/08/2021 21:29

I don't think vaccinated people feel like vaccines are 100%, and they are the cautious ones ime, who are not saying everything is back to normal, feel safe, etc, as you can see from this thread.

firstimemamma · 15/08/2021 21:34

I've never for a second felt remotely unsafe and live my life 100% as normal. I'm not bothered about Covid.

Bloody hell! I hope you get sorted soon, and not fobbed off with your symptoms just being a coincidence etc.
kowari · 15/08/2021 21:36

@illuyankas
I had covid symptoms in March 2020, last positive antibody test only two months ago, so I feel safe partly because of that. I worked throughout, DS in school almost throughout. If I'd never had it I may not feel as safe.

emsyj37 · 15/08/2021 21:37

DH has chosen not to have the vaccine. He is relatively young, healthy, not overweight and has no health conditions. He has no reason to expect Covid to make him seriously ill or kill him. There is a theoretical risk, but it is very very small and he is not concerned about it. He has never been worried that he might catch it.
I have had the vaccination mainly because I thought it was likely we would need it to be able to travel abroad, and I didn't want to delay having it in case it became more difficult to obtain once the mass vax programme was complete.
To me, DH's choice is entirely rational and it's not really anyone else's business what medical treatments or procedures he chooses to consent to or decline.

Samcartys · 15/08/2021 21:38

Dh not vaccinated, he feels no different than he did before. Has never felt unsafe. He’s worked all the way through (builder, going in peoples houses) I’ve worked all the way through as a key worker and dd went to nursery all the way through. None of us have (knowingly) ever had covid.
I was double vaccinated early for my age (feb and April, I’m 36) as I was born with a hole in my heart but I’ve never felt unsafe.
