Young (20s) fit healthy , struggled in hospital with Covid . Passed away a few days ago.

Life is so cruel. I also see that a fifth of hospital admissions are now younger patients .

Will this get worse ?

This is so sad and scary 😟 I'm in my 20s and am currently recovering from covid, well on day 7 and my tests are now coming back negative! I haven't had an awful bout of it but have felt rough and have severe health anxiety to the point I'm struggling to breathe from anxiety attacks (blood oxygen is fine 96-100%) hearing this kind of thing sends people like me over the edge. It's such a hard time we all live in at the moment! Sending my thoughts to his family Thanks

Sunshinesandice · 05/08/2021 09:16

It’s horrible and so awfully sad , I’m sorry I didn’t mean to worry you. I just wanted to get it off my chest as I just can’t get my head around it x

Sorry to hear that.

Cousin is waiting for an operation, and yesterday spoke to the hospital, who said that minor operations are fine but larger ones are on go-slow as they have to leave capacity in ICU for covid sufferers. Sufferers who were, according to person cousin spoke to all unvaccinated .

PandemicAtTheDisco · 05/08/2021 09:20

I've still recovering from covid. My most militant anti-vaxxing, anti-masking friend has vanished - she had slight contact with me the day before I was likely infected. We are all concerned and this is the first time I'm hoping she has been either sectioned or arrested. I don't want to hear she is one of those that has died after wishing she'd been vaccinated. She does go out of contact frequently but I'm really hoping to hear rom her soon.

@Sunshinesandice that's okay, I'm the one who opened the thread up and read it! 🙄 I have had one jab already, I was due my second on the 12th but have had to move it now. I'm hoping my one jab offers me protection 😊 I have a 14 month old and I have been so scared.

LostThings · 05/08/2021 09:22

So sorry Flowers

Sunshinesandice · 05/08/2021 09:23

I am 30s and had Covid - went straight to my chest and was quite poorly but ok , I have my second jab next week and also have a little one . Try not to be too worried - you will come out the other end just fine . This young man got very poorly very quickly x

Your one jab will give you some protection (I won’t suggest figures as I don’t have the data). Don’t worry too much. Roll on your second!

TheTallOakTrees · 05/08/2021 09:27

It's awful.
I saw that the head of the NHS was urging young people to get the vaccine to protect themselves.
I think younger people are more likely to read the misinformation that anti vax and conspiracy groups share so end up at risk.

Very sad and unnecessary 😞

It's so unnecessary when there is a way out of this.

I don't want to sound alarmist. But I am Indian, and a couple of months ago, many of my extended web of acquaintances and family were dying in India during the second wave, even those below 40, even those with the best medical care.

I remarked on it, but was told that it would not happen in the UK because of the much better health system. ( This despite the fact that many well to do in India have great medical care) I still hope that is true, and that these deaths are outliers.

MareofBeasttown · 05/08/2021 09:35

Sorry, I should clarify that those who died or were very ill had not got both jabs yet.

Kittyswhiskers · 05/08/2021 09:36

Most young people in icu are unvaccinated (nurse)

Sorry for your loss x

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/08/2021 09:42

There’s a piece in today’s Times about a (formerly) incredibly fit and healthy ‘iron man’ who had refused the vaccine and died of Covid at 42. His sister is quoted as saying, ‘He believed in his own immortality.’

Also in that paper, a piece about hospitals in the south of France being placed on an emergency footing because of an upsurge in intensive care admissions.

Quote

It’d be good to think that the vaccine refusers on here might take note, but I’m not holding my breath.

To some anti vax they will say this is made up. Some will never admit that vaccines are used because they work in the majority. History shows this too. You can't argue with stupid.

Hi OP,

Hopefully it won't get worse.

It is undoubtedly a tragedy that someone should die so young but I think it's important to remember that it's quite rare for someone so young to die from an illness that most survive.

When I was at college I knew an otherwise healthy 19 year old who died from complications caused by flu and more recently someone else who is now struggling with rheumatoid arthritis triggered by just a bit of a mild cold.

Life is not fair and unfortunately some people are just unlucky but this doesn't mean that everything is getting worse.

SantiagoSky · 05/08/2021 10:18

Good things that there are vaccinations available against Covid and the flu that avoid this unfairness and bad luck!

ACreakingGateNeverStops · 05/08/2021 10:24

Absolutely.

Apologies for not realising that the purpose of this thread was not about reassuring the OP that things weren't about to get worse but is instead vaccine love-fest thread Smile

Whilst its very sad that someone so young has passed away from covid most people do make a full recovery, there are always going to be people who get ill and die, but thankfully its rare in young people.

I personally know two people who have died from covid (not in contact with one another) and others who have been extremely ill. It's not scaremongering to say that this is a serious illness and should be taken seriously.
