DH regrets having vaccine

LifesTooShortYOLO · 04/08/2021 18:27

So me and DH have both had both doses of Pfizer vaccine and I felt like I had done my research and outweighed the pros and cons and was happy with my decision.
The day after DH second dose he felt terrible he was laid in bed all day with aching, chills and what he describes as the most banging headache. I was fine 😳
The day after he was back to feeling his normal self.
Today he's come home from work and said he's had a banging headache all day just like the day after the vaccine, and in his words 'You don't know what shit they put into you do you really'
So now I'm freaking out 😂 I have health anxiety at the best of times and he is normally my reassurance and is always the one who rationalises with me about things when I'm feeling anxious. Now hearing him say that has made me question the whole Vaccine thing even though it's too late now anyway 😕😣

How many PhDs in bioscience does your DH have?

I was ill for two weeks after my first jab and eight weeks after the second. And I mean really truly ill. If I reacted that way to the vaccine I don't even want to begin to imagine what would happen if I were to get the actual virus.

My Covid headache was much worse than my vaccine headache.

Thanks to the vaccine luckily neither your DH or you will now actually have to experience a true Covid headache.

Funny you mention headaches, after my first vaccine my head felt like it was being split open, it was so painful! Different to any other headache I’ve had before.

Second vaccine I had no side affects but everyone is different.

It could just be coincidence though, you’ll just never know really.

Hope his better soon

@ajwbalsn

I had what I thought were awful side effects after my first Pfizer dose. I was dreading the second, but I was completely fine. Upon reflection I'm guessing I just had another bug/illness after the first vaccine. I'm guessing the same is likely to be true for your husband.

You can have side effects from one and not the other. Just because you didn't get then after the second jab doesn't mean it was something else the first time. It probably was side effects

And the OP"s DH's headaches could quite well be side effects but they aren't catching @LifesTooShortYOLO so won't affect how you feel if that's what you're worrying about.

Obviously everything he gets ill with in the future will be due to the vaccine - oh my

OP, they don't put anything 'in you'

The Pfizer vaccine is an mRNA vaccine. It essentially contains the instructions for making a spike protein. Your body recognises that the protein doesn't belong there. It builds an immune response to fight it off (thinking it's an infection). This response produces antibodies.
And that's how it works

All this will have been in the leaflet you received at the vaccine (well, we did in Ireland, assume it's the same there).

No need for any panic

I had on off headaches for a week after 2nd Moderna jab. It was definitely caused by jab as the headache was a very particular type that I haven't had before. Its normal to have after effects for a while. Didn't make me regret the jab just made me think I was having a mild reaction to it which is normal.

I think part of the problem here is that you're putting all your faith in one person for your reassurance. Ultimately the way to deal with your health anxiety is to accept that there can be no 100% certainty and that there can be no reassurance that everything will definitely be fine. But if you do want reassurance from knowing other people aren't worried, bear in mind that there are millions of people who have had both vaccines and who are not right now having any doubt at all that they did right thing - your dh may be having a wobbly moment because he's got a headache that's unsettled him, but millions more people aren't. Statistically there a few that are worried like your dh, just like you know there are antivaxxers out there who are sure that it's the wrong thing, but most people aren't.

You had good reasons for having the vaccine and it will almost 100% certainly be absolutely the right thing to have done for you personally and for your dh. If you hadn't, when (and it would be when not if) you next got covid your health anxiety would also go mad at that point worrying about all the things that covid might be doing to your body. It's shit that there's no option that can be completely anxiety free, but for what it's worth the vaccine option is definitely the lower risk of the two choices (vax or no vax) for 99.99% of people.

Finally, do you think your dh might want some reassurance from you that his headache is almost certainly unrelated and even if it is related almost certainly nothing to worry about? It's sometimes hard being the person who is always looked to for reassurance, and never getting any yourself.

Firstly, if your DH is concerned and home treatment doesn’t provide any relief he should contact 111 and let them assess him for anything that might need urgent attention.

But other than that, side effects show that your immune system is doing its job. Symptoms of illness are your immune system doing it’s thing but with an uncontrolled trigger.

I think that because as adults we have so few vaccines our expectations are off about side effects from them, plus the current hyperfocus on these particular vaccines. Some of the vaccines received in childhood clearly cause babies/children to feel rotten for a few days but on the whole are still considered better to have than not and the side effects are generally considered part and parcel of that.

I'm AZ double-dosed.

First round: felt a bit stuffy and lethargic for a few days - not 'ill ill', but not exactly at the races either, IYKWIM.

Second round: slightly sore arm for two-three days.

I used to travel to/through East/South East Asia a lot for work and had to get the yellow fever jab.

That made me PROPERLY bed-bound ill (as in horrendous night sweats, fever, shivering, muscle weakness, headache, gastric upset) for about ten days, which is unheard of for me (I am very much of the 'it's just a flesh wound!' school of thought when it comes to sickness).

If you press his temple for 10 seconds, it will do a hard restart. Wait until you hear the start up sound, and see if that fixes the problem.

Otherwise, you are just stuck with a moaning man who can’t handle a little headache.

LOVE IT!^

There’s always a risk with absolutely any vaccine it medication we put in our bodies but as this is new it does feel a little scarier. I had just had my 1st Astra Zeneca when they decided under 40’s shouldn’t have it so I panicked a bit but I’ve had both now. I felt really dreadful for a few days after first but not so bad the second jab. I feel it was worth the risk. Catching covid can be dangerous without the vaccine.

People are so quick to discount others negative side effects from the vaccine, why?

A RN has posted about the significant on -going health problems she has suffered as a result of the vaccines but that's all fine because "covid would be worse"

Not in my case it wasn't. I had a runny nose.

The vast majority of people don't get severe symptoms from covid but we're told to focus on the ones that do.

Well the majority of people don't have severe side effects from the vaccine, yet we're so quick to discount and silence the ones that do.

Blood clots, irregular menstrual cycles, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, debilitating and on-going cluster headaches etc shouldn't be chalked up to being just one of those things.

I'm not anti vax. My children are fully immunized and I took both the flu and whooping cough vaccine during pregnancy.

I certainly won't be rushing to have this one.

I had really nasty side effects after a typhoid vaccine years ago and quite a horrible experience with AZ, would I have them both again, absolutely. We are so privileged to live in a country that has access to life saving vaccines!

This. Same at my county hospitals. The VAST, VAST^ majority of people who are seriously ill from covid, are unvaccinated.

@Chickpea1434

People are so quick to discount others negative side effects from the vaccine, why?

Because in the VAST majority of cases, it's anti-vaxxers scaremongeing, and making up stories to try to put people off having the covid vaccine.

The amount of people 'ill' from the vaccine is infinitesimal, compared to the amount of people saved by it. Only a fool would not have it.
