Sajid Javid - arrogant, insensitive?

SJ coming under fire from many for his tweet yesterday following his full recovery from his Covid-19 diagnosis. As Health Secretary he should have chosen his words more carefully and been more sensitive to those who lost loved ones, suffering long covid etc

I thought these qualities were pre-requisites to joining the Conservative Party?

Jasmine11 · 25/07/2021 08:18

Tory minister acting like like a contemptuous jerk...hold the front page!

Noterook · 25/07/2021 08:24

Maybe he has been reading some of the ridiculous threads on here.

mrshoho · 25/07/2021 08:28

He needs to fuck right off back to his wbanking and get his filthy hands away from the health matters of this country. A deplorable, scumbag who has shown the depths he is prepared to sink to. Hate him and this disgusting government.

marieantoinehairnet · 25/07/2021 08:28

He's going to say that isn't he, although maybe he'd be a better vaccine salesman if he said it would have been much much worse without vaccine

PurpleDaisies · 25/07/2021 08:32

He makes Matt Hancock look competent and sensitive in comparison. That’s not something I thought I’d ever write.

JordanPickford · 25/07/2021 08:35

Surely diplomacy is a fundamental key skill of any government minister. So why are so many lacking this basic quality?!

If he had suffered the misfortune to be very poorly with the virus or required hospital treatment, would he still be telling us not to cower then I wonder? Or would he demonstrate a bit more empathy?

ohfook · 25/07/2021 08:35

I liked Yvette cooper's response. I was really starting to lose faith in the Labour Party recently; Starmer is as good as useless. But Zarah Sultana, Dawn Butler, Chi Onwrah and now possibly Yvette Cooper are giving me a tiny bit of hope.

marieantoinehairnet · 25/07/2021 08:36

He wants us all to stop cowering, David Lammy gave it to him didn't he.

What a horrible creature, cower, I wonder if the c130,000 dead felt they were cowering.

CrunchyCarrot · 25/07/2021 08:36

A 'full recovery' from what was obviously a very mild dose of Covid? Puhleese. Hmm

Boris went to ITU and it didn’t help him in this respect…

Not a fan of Hancock, but I think Javid is potentially going to be worse.
JordanPickford · 25/07/2021 08:50

Do you actually talk to NHS hospital leaders Mr Javid? In a week where hospitals have seen enormous increases in admissions in some areas, with routine operations being cancelled again, do you think they would agree that people shouldn’t cower from the virus?

foxandbee · 25/07/2021 08:59

Like all the supid posters on here who berate people for "cowering behind the sofa", he is a Grade A arsehole.

marieantoinehairnet · 25/07/2021 08:59

The lack of compassion is worrying but not surprising, we all know that's now the default mode behind the scenes, hence the herd immunity.

foxandbee · 25/07/2021 08:59

Stupidly, I mistyped stupid!

PiccalilliChilli · 25/07/2021 09:07

I take a different view. Insensitive to families who have lost loved ones to Covid-19, certainly. I don't disagree there. But both DH and I are essential workers and see very anxious people wearing gas masks on the Tube, or answer the door in full PPE and spray disinfectant on callers. People jump away from us and try and communicate double-masked and visored. Both DH and I have had the virus, as has many, many of our colleagues, and 99% made it out the other side. I think people need to try a relax, just a tiny bit. Javid's tweet was clumsily done, but I agree the time has come to move on.

Disclaimer: I am not a Tory voter and hate the current government.

DufferMum · 25/07/2021 09:10

Nope, not a big fan of Javid or any Tory, but we do need to stop cowering from Covid.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/07/2021 09:10

I see what he was trying to say but who the hell didn’t pull him up on “cower”..::he could have said something to the affect of “ through our wonderful vaccine program we are learning to get back to normal alongside covid”

Sweet?!

I'm in London, I've never seen such nonsense as you describe

noblegiraffe · 25/07/2021 09:13

He should make a public apology. He's the Health Secretary and should not be posting goady troll tweets about how following the government's own advice to be cautious and sensible makes you a coward.

He has just insulted the nation. Anyone who missed anything because of covid, the people who didn't hold their loved one's hands as they died, the empty funerals, the missed school, weddings, birthdays, holidays. We're all cowards who should have just been a bit braver.

really? out of how many million population do you see such behaviour? Pathetic argument.
ChristmasShearwater · 25/07/2021 09:16

God people love taking offence.

He's an awful Tory but people need to be tougher and not wilt over one word.

I like Yvette Cooper but wish she hadn't risen to it.
