I understand why people are against vaccine passports, but a lot of those most vocal against it are the usual crowd who have been anti-lockdown and anti-mask throughout (and often anti-vaccine). They won't accept vaccine passports but will be the first to complain if and when nightclubs are forced to close again due to the impact of the virus which without vaccines would already be a lot worse with the Delta variant.

They can't always have it both ways.

OP posts:

@userperuser

If this doesn’t make you realise something is very wrong then nothing will.
This!
sleepwouldbenice · 22/07/2021 00:33

@Againstmachine

As you can see from the posts on here OP. Yep you're right

Nope most of us believe freedom is more important than a disease that we wont be worried about in a few years.

Nope Most of you have been minimising covid and been anti lockdown for months. With no credible alternative. Which is exactly the OP s post

I would link to your threads but they were deleted from memory

@sleepwouldbenice

Some of us were pushed there due to the ableism towards those who cant wear masks.

Actions have consequences.

I am sorry that you have suffered from abuse for this. I think personally that there are exceptions to every rule, vaccines, masks, lockdown etc

And I do think that vaccine passports alone aren't correct, an alternative such as free twice weekly good testing should be offered

But many on here are against any solution as the OP says. And when are hear those arguments [or lack of, just minimising covid] then that's when my sympathy starts to really wane

Some very interesting comments on this thread - I used to be part of the 'what's wrong with an ID card ' brigade but only if it was used in lieu of finding your passport/driving licence/utility bills for ID purposes. But the thought of vaccine passports to be 'allowed' to live a normal life (rather than just travel abroad) fills me with horror.

I’m going to the theatre tonight - have to download nhs Covid pass to ensure entry

:(

So it isn’t just nightclubs

AlecTrevelyan006 · 22/07/2021 11:13

Yeah I had email from the theatre with all the stuff about Covid protocols one of which was if you can’t provide proof of either a double vaccination or recent negative test then ‘we reserve the right to refuse entry’

So not ‘compulsory’ as such but you can already see the way it’s heading

Also been given a time slot for arrival- which is an hour before the start of the show!

Bythemillpond · 22/07/2021 11:23

I know the announcement said night clubs and other big venues. I was wondering what could be construed as a big venue.

Ds thinks it could end up including big supermarkets as they could say it is over a certain square footage and some places are definitely bigger than some theatres

I had to take out at Costa last week (before announcement) as they would not allow me to sit in without the app. Did not offer the option to leave details.

So you didn't need proof of vaccination as they are happy to accept a negative test?

Asking genuinely, given the context of rapidly rising cases, why do you find it a problem to do a test to check you don't have COVID before going somewhere like a theatre?

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/07/2021 14:24

But it is being proposed that negative tests will no longer be accepted. Just proof of vaccination. If the unvaccinated are willing to do tests, why remove that option? If vaccinations reduce transmission "enough" and tests are reliable "enough" and have apparently been so for a considerable period of time, why take tests off the table? Surely it's a combination of mitigations that will be successful, rather than putting all ones eggs in one basket?

This is what rings alarm bells and may drive suspicion of motivation.

MareofBeasttown · 22/07/2021 14:31

I went for a play recently. I am a big theatre fan. It was a bit of a terrifying experience because the theatre was small and not adequately distanced. Guests were asked to wear masks but of course they did not ( this was before July 19th). I really don't see why people have a problem with tests, if they are not willing to be vaxxed. Otherwise, theatres will close down again.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/07/2021 14:35

I'm unvaccinated but would happily test for specific activities.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/07/2021 14:41

And I'm still wearing a mask when shopping and on public transport. To be honest it's become so bloody automatic I'd have to make a conscious effort not to, which disturbs me a bit to be honest. But I'm a hedging my bets kind of person - if it helps, it helps, if it's futile I've done my "duty" as far as I am able and willing to do.

I just stop short at the vaccine and I don't think it's unreasonable.

Me too. Except a negative test for night clubs wont be allowed later in on in the year. It will trickle down to smaller things, eventually leaving your house.
userperuser · 22/07/2021 14:50

Nobody is saying they would not test, the point is that the government with their recent announcement are removing the choice from certain activities which will inevitably be extended to others.

WouldBeGood · 22/07/2021 15:06

I’m not testing

MistressoftheDarkSide · 22/07/2021 15:08

@userperuser

Exactly what I was getting at - it's the painting of unvaccinated people as unwilling to participate in collective responsibility when there are other options that are likely just as effective as reducing transmission by removing those options. It seems less about genuine public health measures and more about exerting control or perhaps maximising profit from the vaccines or something that my brain just can't compute right now. It's getting pretty exhausting trying to figure out exactly what is the best route through this shit show tbh. I'm getting to a point where i feel as if I just stay still and quiet I might disappear altogether lol - but at the same time that's just capitulation to the rhetoric and I'm not comfortable with that either.....

The impact on society as a whole of all this mixed messaging - such as relaxing requirements for people coming in from green and amber countries at the border, some people should isolate if pinged but some are exempt, it all feels like massive cognitive dissonance.

I can see people saying they won't.
userperuser · 22/07/2021 15:53

MareofBeasttown

If people won’t then they will be restricted simple as that.

I wouldn’t want to test but I would if required as an alternative to a vaccine passport.

Why aren’t the vaccinated required to test? Their vaccine may reduce spread but it doesn’t eliminate it so they still pose a risk.

WouldBeGood · 22/07/2021 15:54

I am vaccinated though

MareofBeasttown · 22/07/2021 15:58

I think I would be happy to test on top of the vaccine to open things up again,.especially travel.
