I understand why people are against vaccine passports, but a lot of those most vocal against it are the usual crowd who have been anti-lockdown and anti-mask throughout (and often anti-vaccine). They won't accept vaccine passports but will be the first to complain if and when nightclubs are forced to close again due to the impact of the virus which without vaccines would already be a lot worse with the Delta variant.

They can't always have it both ways.

@Bythemillpond

If we want more people to be vaccinated then bringing in Covid passports is just going to make people stop and think about why the heavy handedness about something that is supposed to be voluntary.

Someone needs to take over this campaign to get people vaccinated that has an ounce of intelligence about how people think.

Making a music video using a song about cult like fake churches and having Jim Broadbent telling you to just have the vaccine was not only toe curlingly awful but I think would have had the opposite effect.
The same with Covid Passports. From what I can see from a few friends of dc. Those who hadn’t had the first jab but were going to have it are now putting it on hold.
They don’t feel comfortable that what was supposed to be voluntary is now being forced.

General consensus amongst my work colleagues is that they are horrified by the latest news and those yet to receive their vaccine or second dose will now not participate.

I just thought it was the younger ones that were thinking this.

I think we are in trouble. It looks like the person who ran the Remain campaign is now in charge of trying to persuade people to get vaccinated.

I think I could run a better campaign that this. But I think the damage has already been done.

I am on UC. This sounds utterly terrifying

And as for making it a government decision. We've seen how that goes. Lip service to libertarianism then policies that would sit better with the CCP.

We’re talking up to 50’s and senior management professionals.
Well you couldn’t make this up:

www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/bank-of-england-tells-ministers-to-intervene-on-digital-currency-programming/ar-AALhtDP
Fuuuck.
I'm wondering how they could dictate how I spend my PIP.

Although I suppose it would highlight how shit UC actually is once it's broken down into
£30 a week for gas and electic. (don't forget many are on expensive payg tariffs)
£10 towards rent.
£5 CT
£10 water

Not much left of what £73 a week? To cover food, clothing, footwear and toiletries. Will I be able to go into cheaper places for toiletries or have to pay boots prices with my voucher? Will a different amount be allowed for women or the same rate as men for toiletries? Will we be only given vouchers for supermarkets considering you can pick up almost everything?

So many questions.

It's going backwards not forwards.

I dont know everything about this subject[forgot what blockchain is]
but yes, there have been people warning about this for a while.
You tuber George Gammon is good for example.

I do note that there are no longer calls of
"conspiracy theories".
All got too real so very quickly.

lightand · 21/07/2021 14:49

GG is an American as far as I know.
The Fed are thinking or planning to introduce digital currency planning as far as I know.

Yes, utterly terrifying.

Found something about natural immunity. It's dated and not peer reviewed although a lot of the CV stuff hasn't been peer reviewed yet has it?

A prior history of SARS-CoV-2 infection was associated with an 83% lower risk of infection, with median protective effect observed five months following primary infection. This is the minimum likely effect as seroconversions were not included.

@IRanSoFarAway1

Lightand "I do note that there are no longer calls of "conspiracy theories"."

Interesting. I got teased about it again last week by a neighbour who said "well you didn't die after your vaccines". I never said I would. I said I was concerned about medical tyranny and technocracy.

I don't talk about it to him anymore as he clearly hasn't a clue what I mean. Probably has Alexa in his flat 🙄

There's no point talking to anyone really. It's coming to crunch point...maybe I should accept the inevitable and invest in it. I spent last weekend trying to learn more and will do more on Sunday. Need a Crypto for Dummies thread...

I have learned to be selective about what I say to people. I am finding it heartening, that amongst my friends, most now know that something large is happening. We all have different theories, but most know that "things are definitely not right".
RolloTomassi · 21/07/2021 15:06

@lightand I'm finding myself in the "something large is happening" camp too, as the heavy-handed covid response is so out of proportion to the threat. I'd love to be totally wrong and it just be universally incompetent leadership but I've had a sick feeling since the vaccine passport u-turn. I just pray it's nothing as bad as the "conspiracies" suggest.

MaxNormal · 21/07/2021 15:53

I'm getting an awful sinking feeling as well and I've never been a conspiracy theorist in my life.
I'll be so, so happy to be wrong.

Againstmachine · 21/07/2021 17:48

Yep it's scary all these governments seemingly along same line at same time, and people say it isn't a conspiracy.

Canigooutyet · 21/07/2021 18:45

Many papers have just started reporting about the backlash.
More than 40 Tories have signed a declaration by campaign group Big Brother Watch to say they oppose using “Covid status certification to deny individuals access to general services, businesses or jobs”.

Againstmachine · 21/07/2021 18:52

Museums and eiffell tower in France no vaccine mandatory.

Nope most of us believe freedom is more important than a disease that we wont be worried about in a few years.

igelkott2021 · 21/07/2021 19:21

I do think it's outrageous that France is considering banning access to public transport to those who've not been vaccinated. How else are people supposed to get to work? Same with shops - they are essential (well I guess you could do all your shopping online).

Nightclubs - meh. I don't want to use them and you have to show proof of age anyway. But shops and transport? Totally unacceptable.

As you can see from the posts on here OP. Yep you're right no you're not right and clearly haven't read the posts properly as I have been an advocate of mask wearing from the outset (ie March 2020, not when the government told us to). But wearing a mask doesn't involve medication which might disagree with you or at worst, kill you. It should always be a choice.

igelkott2021 · 21/07/2021 19:23

Those who think vaccine passports are a good idea - how long will we have them for ? Weeks? Months? Years? Will we ever be able to go to a foreign country again without having to show one (maybe not so much of an issue if you are in Europe and have open borders).

We could always take an idea out of the people smugglers books and reverse it.
Taking a dinghy over from a Kent beach to France (hoping not to be caught by immigration) then get in the back of a van for an overnight journey to Spain and then stay in an Airbnb for couple of weeks before doing the journey back.😀

@WanderingFruitWonderer, I’m the same, have had the vaccines, stuck to all the rules and am glad they were in place, but don’t agree with forced vaccinations.
