Will you be giving people space in queues from tomorrow?

Freedom day is upon us. COVID is no longer a threat to us and we can now get on with our lives.

I’m just wondering what people’s plans are re distancing in queues. Are you planning to maintain some distance between you and the person in front?

Cross posted with OP!

SueSaid · 18/07/2021 21:13

'But sure, Covid is no longer a threat from tomorrow'

The op was being sarcastic.

It's clearly a massive risk and to hear shop staff allegedly removing sanitising stations would seem rather odd.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 18/07/2021 21:16

i have received an email from tesco, i expect others have, saying carry on wear a mask if you can and they are keeping social distancing in place

SueSaid · 18/07/2021 21:17

'retail can't make it any clearer. after all the abuse lets see how the moaners get on now without staff baby-sitting everyone'

Babysitting? Surely it was just having mitigating measures in place. Like hospitals do all the time.

Think you need a bit of time off maybe. Sorry if it's been stressful. At least you don't work in the nhs then you'd really see the sharp end of the problem rather than the dreadful inconvenience of stickers on floors and erm, hand sanitising stations.

WorriedMillie · 18/07/2021 21:17

Yes, will continue to wear a mask too. I’ve found I’m doing both automatically now and neither are causing me any discomfort, so I’m happy to continue

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 18/07/2021 21:17

Yes. I've always hated the way some people seem to be trying to attach themselves to your back in queues, even pre-covid. Then when you pointedly move away a little, they just close that gap by stepping forward. Bloody weird.

TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 21:20

It's an utter disgrace that retail staff have had to police all of this. And a disgrace also that people are even now expecting you to carry on doing so.

yeah love sure

time off, why would i need time off? we have staff isolating...theres no staff just the same as nhs

you are the one going on about remove of sanitising stations, you seem so horrified Grin the stickers are past it, curling up and a trip hazard....chill,its fine, we all know we can rely on the public to do the right thing don't we?

ProtectMaternity · 18/07/2021 21:20

OP may have been being sarcastic but there are plenty who think that way - here and elsewhere.

This week I’ve been inundated with people asking when maternity is lifting the rest of the restrictions, despite the fact that we have been on the brink of having to close our unit every day for the last two weeks, have actually had to close once, colleagues in the next county waited over 20 hours for an ambulance to transport a woman in labour at 23 weeks, and the RCOG have just put out a statement saying that 100 pregnant women have been admitted to hospital with Covid in the last two weeks, that those with Covid are at increased risk of premature birth, pre-eclampsia and still birth, and we have babies in NICU born early only because their mums were so unwell.

I actually can’t believe the government is going ahead with this tomorrow.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/07/2021 21:21

I'll do the 2m thing but I won't be wearing a mask

Dontrainonmyparade · 18/07/2021 21:22

Well, I can’t say I’ve had anyone maintain any real distance behind me in a queue in months. I’m always conscious of people too close to me, even pre pandemic. I don’t get it, you don’t get to the front any quicker by breathing down my neck. I like to think they are the same group of people who accelerate really fast up to you on the motorway, and then tailgate until you move in. Because, you know, it saves them a few seconds before they have to slam the brakes on again for the next car that’s doing a reasonable speed in the outside lane blocking their path

PickAChew · 18/07/2021 21:22

Yes and I bloody hope I don't have to go back to asking people behind me if they're planning on paying for my shopping because they're stood so close behind me that I can't get to the card reader.

KeepScrapingBy · 18/07/2021 21:22

I will carry on social distancing. Will wear a mask at the till or while shopping if it’s busy. Haven’t used sanitizer for months.

yes its just the odd weirdo thats like that though. most people will have witnessed the abuse of retail staff whilst doing there shopping inshore or abuse between customers.

the mask exempt have needed staff support on many occasions. people have been vile to them.

There you go with your faux concern again.

Retail environments are not the same as the NHS. Many retail staff are on minimum wage and zero hour contracts. They've also been on the receiving end of abuse for attempting to enforce rules over the past year and a half, not to mention the arseholes panic buying. Nice attempt at minimising all that though.

OldTinHat · 18/07/2021 21:24

Yes and a mask all the way.

you aren't alone it seems. many dont.
TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 21:26

@gardeninggirl68 I'm exempt and I've had lots of abuse in shops. Never from staff, though, who've always been so lovely and understanding. Thank you for supporting exempt people, it's so much appreciated Flowers

(And ignore the nasty comments on this thread!)

it comes naturally now i think....don't need the lines to drill it into people really. a 'safe distance' is whats requested now. Again, people need to make their own minds up about whats safe
HmmmmmmInteresting · 18/07/2021 21:27

My poor niece works in a supermarket and she said it was awful today, people on top of her. She kept finding stray trolleys so she could escape outside and get air. She's dreading 'freedom Day'.

It really doesn't. Sadly many people need telling what to do, even then they ignore rules.

Time will tell but I feel very sorry for retail staff working in a busy, high flow area with many people not bothering with face covers or SD. Good luck Flowers

WhiteChocTwix · 18/07/2021 21:36

I'm not changing my behaviour what so ever. Masks and social distancing with strangers100%. Need to stay well to see DF in his care home. Happy that care home restrictions are evolving, but still with a massive emphasis on testing.

Whatever9999 · 18/07/2021 21:37

@BruceAndNosh

"My boys have been told that if someone is wearing a mask then that means that they need to give them extra space" Surely it's people NOT wearing masks that need to be given extra space
No it's the people wearing masks that need the extra space, up to now it's only been outside and it's because they are obviously more vulnerable, nervous or both. The same will go now for people indoors. One of my boys is autistic and has no real concept of personal space, at least by him associating masks with staying back he's helping making those people feel a little more comfortable.
Parker231 · 18/07/2021 21:39

Many of our local stores have already said that you must continue to wear a mask in their business premises.
