Will you be giving people space in queues from tomorrow?

Freedom day is upon us. COVID is no longer a threat to us and we can now get on with our lives.

I’m just wondering what people’s plans are re distancing in queues. Are you planning to maintain some distance between you and the person in front?

They could be vulnerable or fearful. It would be utterly thoughtless and inconsiderate not to.

Florelei · 18/07/2021 19:58

What prompted this was an email from Holland & Barrett which said that they would be maintaining the distancing markers in case people wanted to continue using them.

It hadn’t occurred to me that this would be an issue from tomorrow and just wanted to see what people thought.

Yes, much more mindful of personal space these days.

BunsyGirl · 18/07/2021 20:00

I won’t be wearing a mask in a supermarket or other large shop. I will wear one for doctor/hospital appointments and crowded public transport. I never get close to people anyway.

Remmy123 · 18/07/2021 20:01

Nothing will change for me tomorrow - I've not seen any social distancing or space in queues for months!!

Went shopping the other day and families sharing lifts etc

stopknockingonmydoor · 18/07/2021 20:01

@Zoey92

Yes. I live in northeast its high herecat the moment
I'm in the NE too, and will continue keeping my distance when I'm in shops.

I'm pregnant and work in customer facing retail so not only will I continue wearing a mask at work, but I hope my customers keep a respectful distance from me too.

Underbox · 18/07/2021 20:01

Yes, I will be wearing a mask in shops and enclosed spaces. I will also maintain social distance as cases are rampant around where I live.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/07/2021 20:01

Yes, I will maintain distance. I won't be wearing a mask though.

TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 20:01

Haven't you always?

Anyone would think that pre-covid we all went around licking the person in front of us in the Sainsbury's queue. I mean if that's what floats your boat do crack on, but maybe ask for their vaccine status first.

Parker231 · 18/07/2021 20:02

Yes and will be wearing a mask in the supermarket and on public transport. Covid hasn’t gone away so why wouldn’t I do what I can to protect others!

LilyPond2 · 18/07/2021 20:03

Yep, more than one in a hundred people in my local area have Covid, so I would definitely prefer to keep a bit of distance from anyone else in the queue.

No, I didn’t give people 1-2m space in a queue before covid.

Are you ok? I hope I haven’t upset you with my post? @TheVampiresWife

I always try and leave a bit of distance, and will carry on doing so.
I've noticed the past few months though that people have been a lot more closer together in queues.

DigitalGhost · 18/07/2021 20:06

Went to asda earlier today and it was already chaos. People everywhere & nobody distancing. Suppose nobody cares anymore

Mansplainee · 18/07/2021 20:07

Yes, I’ll be trying to keep a respectful distance from people when it’s practical to do so. I won’t be wearing a mask in shops though.

TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 20:08

@Florelei no, not at all upset! Just thought it was the done thing to give people space in queues. Not 2m, granted, but to be fair you didn't mention 1 or 2m in your OP - just 'some space' Smile

Sirzy · 18/07/2021 20:09

Assume everyone else around you in vulnerable and respect their need for space

GeidiPrimes · 18/07/2021 20:11

Of all the rules I didn't mind this one. My hackles go up if I'm too close to people.

V. happy to bin off mask (irritated my lips and nostrils) but I'm on board with wearing one in hospitals.

CataclysmicVariable · 18/07/2021 20:13

I can’t believe some of you needed a pandemic to persuade you to back off the person in front of you in a queue

This!

Nothing worse than feeling the breath of the person behind you on the back of your neck.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 18/07/2021 20:15

Yea Ive always given people space but I’m also not going to lose my mind if someone gets a little too close to me

AlmostSummer21 · 18/07/2021 20:15

I don't intend to start going to shops. I'll carry on ordering online. If I have to go somewhere like the chemist I'll keep my distance, wear a mask & wash my hands when I get home (walk there & back)

I'm double vaccinated, but CEV & just had an Operation which is going to take time to recover from I really don't need even a 'mild' bout of Covid.

...and just in case I'm a carrier (from
Medical staff or shopping deliveries etc) I don't want to risk passing it on to anyone.

Simple steps to help prevent illness & possible death.

TheFallenMadonna · 18/07/2021 20:15

DS works in Costa and spent this afternoon removing the social distancing circles from the floor.

LindainLockdown · 18/07/2021 20:16

Absolutely, not having people breathing down your neck in a queue has been a very small benefit of recent times.

Whenthedealgoesdown · 18/07/2021 20:19

The only place that distancing and space happens is our large Waitrose.
