Will you be giving people space in queues from tomorrow?

Freedom day is upon us. COVID is no longer a threat to us and we can now get on with our lives.

I’m just wondering what people’s plans are re distancing in queues. Are you planning to maintain some distance between you and the person in front?

Yes, always have to an extent though not to a full 2m I suspect. But I have no desire to be really close to anyone - never have been and always hated it when you have someone really close behind breathing down your neck. It was impolite before covid, let alone on the first days after easing restrictions.

Langsdestiny · 18/07/2021 20:54

Pretty much every restaurant and business that I am on the mailing list for has requested that people still wear masks and respect social distance.

BruceAndNosh · 18/07/2021 20:54

"My boys have been told that if someone is wearing a mask then that means that they need to give them extra space"
Surely it's people NOT wearing masks that need to be given extra space

SueSaid · 18/07/2021 20:54

It's just going to be awful, we've had so many inconsiderate people in the last year either flouting or not wearing face covers this will be a free for all, you just know the same prats will be invading personal space when out shopping.

Just because things aren't legally enforceable does not mean it isn't common sense and no I'm not an anxiety ridden flapper who loves wearing masks, just with cases 50k and hospitalisations climbing it is clearly still a tenuous situation.

gardeninggirl68 · 18/07/2021 20:56

@JaniieJones because our company told us too......the public have own masks and sanitiser.....personal responsibility

thats why

Orchidflower1 · 18/07/2021 20:56

@gardeninggirl68 why in heavens name are you removing the sanitising stations- surely that’s the last thing we need going at the moment?!!! Where do you work???!

TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 20:57

@JaniieJones here with my usual reminder that not all without face coverings are flouters or prats, because some are exempt Smile

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/07/2021 20:57

Yes. Doubt many will though.

Evidencebased · 18/07/2021 20:59

Thank you Whatever9999, that's a considerate message to give your DC.

TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 20:59

Lovely to see so many people attacking retail staff (who they claim to care so much about) for doing as they're told by their boss.

gardeninggirl68 · 18/07/2021 21:00

@jumpbounce nah not the boss, company is HUGE, i wish

its in line with all major retailers.....personal responsibility

staff have been asked their views, any strong views to be respected. there is a strong view and we are upholding that one, wont be popular here on mumsnet though.....staff dont want to go back to sharing toilets with customers, so the customer entrance remains padlocked, staff entrance back of house for staff only

perspex staying but they aren't bothered as they feel enclosed and blocks air flow apparently

many stores are doing this, not just us

Mockolate · 18/07/2021 21:01

I'm not fussed about the sanitising stations going - surely people can take their own hand sanitizer in their pocket if they want to?
Or even if they can't (can't afford or whatever) they can wash their hands when they get home.
One thing I didn't like during the beginning of lockdown was having to sanitize at every shop, even though you'd literally only sanitized 5 minutes ago in some cases!
Hands were red raw (eczema)

SueSaid · 18/07/2021 21:01

'because our company told us too......the public have own masks and sanitiser.....personal responsibility'

Oh right. When you said 'I removed' I read it that you'd decided to, sorry.

How utterly irresponsible of your bosses not to want them in place to protect their staff. I'd complain if this is true.

do you not have your own sanitiser? did you purposefully skip the bit where i said we have removed all our sanitising stations EXCEPT FOR 2 ????

2 is adequate!!

we have left 2....2.... should be adequate, no?

the stuff i took out was unused almost, from less shopped areas of the store. barely used

toocold54 · 18/07/2021 21:06

*i'd say 1 in 10 were wearing masks today....all our floor markers are going and i took down all our covid signage this afternoon when we closed.

I went to b&m and Asda yesterday and I think I only saw one person without a mask.

PuzzledObserver · 18/07/2021 21:07

I went into a small CoOp Food this evening, they appear to have updated their signage already. It said that in line with Government recommendations they are encouraging customers to wear masks and keep distancing. I don’t think they’ll be removing all their sanitising stations,

I will keep my distance and carry on wearing a mask indoors.

SueSaid · 18/07/2021 21:09

'do you not have your own sanitiser? did you purposefully skip the bit where i said we have removed all our sanitising stations EXCEPT FOR 2 ????'

I have my own but many people don't. We have so many inconsiderate selfish folk about. I mean yes 2 is plenty if you work in a corner shop, not so much if you work in tescos. They are there to protect you and customers you know.

Sirzy · 18/07/2021 21:10

I have to say I was amazed at the mention of any shops reducing the number of sanitising stations. From what I can tell most are still, very understandably encouraging people to be cautious including sanitising hands

ProtectMaternity · 18/07/2021 21:11

COVID is no longer a threat to us and we can now get on with our lives.

Do you happen to know anyone who works in a hospital right now, OP?

Have a chat with them and then see what you think.

I have no idea why the press isn’t reporting the absolutely dire situation in hospitals and the ambulance service right now, but it’s all about to fall down. So many staff off sick, so many more Covid patients, huge issues happening.

But sure, Covid is no longer a threat from tomorrow 🙄

we have access to our own sanitiser.....its down to the public now, they can use sanitiser on the way in. thats still there...there was never a rule as to how many required anyway, we probably did way too many as once we rebuilt our stocks after giving it all free of charge to the nhs,we over ordered

retail can't make it any clearer. after all the abuse lets see how the moaners get on now without staff baby-sitting everyone.

i can't believe the shops are going to rip up the plastic sticky notices on the floor advising to keep distance

@ProtectMaternity I read it as sarcasm, and OP has come back onto the thread and said it was too.
TheVampiresWife · 18/07/2021 21:13

I was at a large shopping mall earlier today and the barriers separating the one way systems had gone. It was quite disorienting at first after a over year of them being there! Most of the hand sanitiser stations had gone, too.
