I am guessing last week of August/beginning of September, and schools won't be going back when they are due to!

I agree with MercyBooth

At some point those at higher risk could think what those at low risk have done for last 18 months

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 20:09

Mercy, I have children I know exactly what they have others have sacrificed.

I'm don't care if they go to clubs but I do care about if they then walk mask less around an essential shop, like a food shop.
And for the life of me I can't see what the sacrifice is for wearing a mask in a supermarket.

marieantoinehairnet · 20/07/2021 20:14

I'd put money on September, because numbers are spiralling, we're using school hol as a firebreak only the firebreak won't work, I reckon schools won't actually be in a position to go back at this rate of exponential infection

Backofbeyond50 · 20/07/2021 20:23

This works all ways. Everyone has made sacrifices. The shielding know full well what sacrifice was like. Families with shielding children spent months not leaving the house at all. Far more restrictive than any lockdown.
Many shielding adults and their families did the same or socially distanced in the home. Imagine not being able to hug your children who live with you.
Others lost jobs, reduced income or homes.
Some lost their lives. Others lost their health.
Children lost periods of school, exams etc etc.
The current guidelines for the vulnerable are a complete joke. They really have to hope the vaccine works as how can they avoid meeting others inside or the unvaccinated when they live with them or work in a school or are a student.
I too think that if able to without distress wearing a mask is a teeny concession.
I definitely don't want another Lockdown either.
@Lemonmelonsun Young people have sacrificed a LOT for older people. And im saying this as a 48 year old. So bleating "its not fair" doesnt wash
Wearing a shitting mask for 20 minutes in Tescos is not a sacrifice.

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:10

20 minutes in Tesco? Many of the young people i know work in Tesco and have been sweaty and uncomfortable in masks for the last year while pushing pallets around and stacking shelves.

Last time i checked their shifts wernt 20 mins long.
Check your privilege.

Fine, but it's still not much of a sacrifice. You're pretty much saying that young people have done their bit and now it's the vulnerable and elderlies time to pay back, possibly with their lives. That's actually quite insane 🤷‍♀️ just wear a mask, you special little snowflakes.
reannneeee · 20/07/2021 23:28

In a way I do get Mercy’s point.

Young people have sacrificed a lot, yes. But mask wearing isn’t comparable to them missing out on a social life, school prom, in person uni etc.

They can have all of that back and still wear a mask when in Tesco or on a train to protect others Confused

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:30

Thats not what i said at all

But this IS what the Government said. "The vaccines are the way out of this" Dont you believe in the vaccines?

reannneeee · 20/07/2021 23:31

@MercyBooth

You literally said ‘wear a mask snowflakes’ and I agreed on that.

I didn’t agree with your whole point, hence why I stated I do think young people have sacrificed a lot.

Yes I am disappointed in the vaccines.

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:31

Well im all for a lockdown..........................as long as it includes the supermarket workers, delivery drivers, Amazon workers etc

reannneeee · 20/07/2021 23:32

Unless you were being sarcastic but my point stil stands

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:33

No that comment was for @JesusIsAnyNameFree who was the one who said "wear a mask you snowflakes"

Backofbeyond50 · 20/07/2021 23:39

But in those early days the elderly and vulnerable did their bit by shielding. The Govt even offered food parcels because they didn't want them clogging up hospital beds which were needed for overweight 50 something men. They wouldn't have done this unless in was vital. The food parcels were shit BTW. We cancelled it.
Ring any bells!
Yes it was in their interest to do it too. But the constant why should my kids miss football to protect some 80 year old who has lived their life does get tiresome when you are 48 and just happen to have an illness which requires immunosupressants. Or you have a precious child yourself who is especially vulnerable to infection.

Having said that I did feel for the bar staff running around in masks in the hotel we stayed at last week. Although I guess now they won't have to provide table service anymore they could be out if a job.

reannneeee · 20/07/2021 23:41

@MercyBooth.

Oh, sorry! I’m not with it after a 12 hour shift. Off to bed

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:41

@Backofbeyond50 Yes i agree with that. I remember the publicity over some of the food parcels Abysmal

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 23:42

No worries @reannneeee Sleep well

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 21/07/2021 00:24

Of course I do, but we haven't finished that yet, have we? Still plenty of adults waiting on their second jab.

And then of course there's the whole thing about this country digging their heels in with the vaccine that is clearly inferior, but WE made it and if we admit it's quite shit compared to Pfizer and Moderna, well what does our government have to cling onto in terms of what they have done right this pandemic? Literally nothing.

reannneeee · 21/07/2021 01:07

Yes, I wish they’d swallow their pride and sack off AstroZeneca

It has helped us go faster supplies of other aren’t great.

Look at Aus changed use of AZ waiting for Pfizer cases going up in lockdown

I’d rather have had AZ than wait longer for other

leafygarden42 · 21/07/2021 07:12

In answer to the original question - October.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 21/07/2021 07:38

If you follow Mac n Chise on Twitter AZ really isn't clearly inferior.

Maggiesfarm · 21/07/2021 10:40

Of course it isn't inferior, it's good.

Why? Can you give the comparative data for prevention of infection, hospitalisation and deaths for both vaccines in the same population, for the same age groups (ie same reporting rules and testing regime)?

It is easy to misrepresent the data - from different countries (variability in testing and reporting); different age groups (if AZ is given to the over 40s, who are at MUCH higher risk, and Pfizer to the 20-40s, who are at much lower risk, it is easy to think 'Oh, AZ isn's working so well - whereas in fact AZ is dong a LOT more heavy lifting) etc.

Hence me asking for comparative data.

Notsowise · 21/07/2021 12:20

@leafygarden42 very specific. Why October?

If we need another lockdown (unlikely) it will be before then? Unless of course, you are confusing a full lockdown with a few restrictions?
