Anyone want to predict when the next lockdown will be?

I am guessing last week of August/beginning of September, and schools won't be going back when they are due to!

@DottyHarmer

I shouldn’t rise to the debate, but *@NannyAndJohn* why do think everything (including every previous action) is the government’s fault? Do you never glance at other countries’ news?

Your views are extremely political, and also somewhat gleeful at the prospect of societal collapse. That’s not to say that the govt’s response has been necessarily great, but his is not a virus unique to the British Isles.

Just like Momentum roared onto MN during the last election, and also how some “vested interests” pop up on certain discussion boards , you clearly have a very political axe to grind.

In my dreams there is a BIG REVEAL of all MN posters and we can see who is really lurking behind their screens.

I have no political affiliation right now, I can't stand the current Labour leader either.

But I will continue to criticise the government that has sent 150000 people to their death.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 19/07/2021 13:40

Honestly Dotty, don't waste your time with this poster. It's either a wind up or they genuinely need some sort of help. I think the more responses they get, the more it fuels their absolute insanity.

Quartz2208 · 19/07/2021 13:40

The sensible ones are those already preparing for a Lockdown Christmas.

What does that even mean?

DH found out his was COVID positive on Christmas Eve last year so whatever happens Christmas will be better this year.

But those thinking lockdown you do get though that it

(a) wont help beyond suppressing it. Delta is going to be next too impossible to eradicate or eliminate

(b) the risks/negative bits of lockdown now outweigh the benefits

So we should be looking at restrictions/measures and forget the word lockdown

Unless a vaccine resistant one comes along

IPong · 19/07/2021 13:42

We will probably have another mutant by then, we seem to get one on average every 6 months so yes, probably lockdown in Autumn

LadyCatStark · 19/07/2021 13:47

Who fucking cares? This isn’t freedom day, nothing’s changed except you can get sweaty in night clubs but still have to wear a mask in the supermarket. You can go to massive sporting events but schools are still closing. Fuck Covid. Fuck restrictions. Fuck this life. I can’t take it anymore.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/07/2021 15:24

Surely no one will comply with another Christmas apart from their families? (apart from Nanny of course)

Cornettoninja · 19/07/2021 15:40

@PinkSparklyPussyCat I suspect it depends on who makes up your family. I probably wouldn’t if case rates look like they do now or higher but then I have multiple members of family who are really at risk from covid despite vaccination along with lots of school age (different schools) children. Barring an amazing development in either treatment or vaccinations if case rates are high I’m not risking being the family that makes them ill.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/07/2021 15:45

You're right @Cornettoninja. I was thinking more of people spending Christmas on their own, or complying with the ridiculous rule of six. If my Mum had still been alive she would have been spending Christmas with me regardless of the rules.

I have very little family left now (in the UK) and no matter what's going on I will give my uncle and his partner the option of coming here. If they say no I wouldn't be offended obviously. However if they want to come they'll be welcome no matter what the government says.

Nanny’s Zoom Christmas dinners plus charades will soon be legendary

FrownedUpon · 19/07/2021 15:49

September. Schools already being primed for online learning again.

I seem to remember one poster saying that Christmas, weddings etc. would never happen in person again! I'm not sure if it was one of the unholy trilogy or someone else though

I think she should invite all of us Smile
DottyHarmer · 19/07/2021 16:03

Nah, Nanny probably goes round pulling turkeys out of ovens whilst sporting a pudding-basin haircut.

Schools have to have online learning plans in place. Does not mean another lockdown is imminent

@NannyAndJohn, do you honestly believe that all 150, 000 would people be alive now, were it not for the government's handling of Covid?

FWIW, I also think they have mishandled it, but by having lockdowns at all.

KOKOagainandagain · 19/07/2021 17:33

No one wants another lockdown. They signify failure of governance.

That said, if you are already rich, lockdown is likely to increase your wealth. And politically increase your power. So lockdown is evidentially in the interests of the already rich and powerful.

The vast majority don't want lockdown. Given the reality, they logically want the virus managed so they can go about daily life in a way that doesn't wreck their health service that they rely on for other stuff or plunge them into poverty or restrict family and social life.

Mass vaccination in its current form will not deliver this. Vaccination could deliver this if it prevented infection and transmission but it doesn't. Zoe app data says that infection rate has plateaued but that the unvaccinated rate of infection has dropped by about 22% whilst the rate for the vaccinated has increased by about 40%. At this rate the virus does not need to cause serious illness and death to overwhelm the NHS.

The NHS could arguably cope with a small minority unvaccinated for whatever reason or those for whom existing conditions made the vaccine inadequate and maintain normal service but what they can't deal with is vast numbers of vaccinated and yet hospitalised on top of this, even if they don't die.

You don't need a crystal ball - it's basic maths and biology.

lifeturnsonadime · 19/07/2021 17:39

I broke my ankle in the first week that the last lockdown ended.

I predict the next lockdown will start in approximately 4 weeks which is the time the consultant reckons I'll be walking and driving again.

Delta is tough to beat. Melbourne and Sydney now in lockdown. Interesting to see protest not sure how many turned up.

MarshaBradyo · 19/07/2021 17:41

Not that I’m saying lockdown is inevitable.

More that cases are and high vaccination/ antibodies are key

GreenWheat · 19/07/2021 19:08

The next lockdown will be on Wednesday morning and last for three years. Happy now OP?

forinborin · 20/07/2021 07:37

I don't think there will be another blanket lockdown.
However, I think that there will be a lot of targeted measures with respect to isolation and bubbles that will make life for many people very difficult - parents of young children, elderly in care homes, chronically ill. But officially there will be no public lockdown and bread and circuses will keep on running, so hey ho.
I have two young primary aged children and have effectively been in a lockdown almost non stop since early summer - we had three requirements to isolate (two overlapped to a large degree).

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 07:52

I really do think food shops which are absolutely essential should have been made to the keep masks. I really do, esp as someone said for older people, it's not fair they see young people in clubs, pubs and now mask less in a supermarket
Why not keep them in essential food shops?

Lemonmelonsun · 20/07/2021 07:53

Apparently the Netherlands had an unprecedented surge after opening night clubs so let's see.

MercyBooth · 20/07/2021 19:50

@Lemonmelonsun Young people have sacrificed a LOT for older people. And im saying this as a 48 year old. So bleating "its not fair" doesnt wash

Completely agree.
