You have to quarantine if coming back from France, doubly vaccinated or not.

At this rate there'll be more shades than a Dulux chart and still nobody will have a clue

Kate3150 · 16/07/2021 20:48

Gosh I’ve just read this, feeling for anyone whose plans will be effected by this x

Bwahaha.
Sirzy · 16/07/2021 20:50

It’s shit. My MIL lives in France my partner was booked to finally go and see her in 2 weeks and now he can’t.

The goverment dangle these carrots and then change things last minute. What’s the point of the traffic light system if we have every shade of colour under the sun

theotherfossilsister · 16/07/2021 20:53

It's horrible. My elderly parents live there and my Dad has pancreatic cancer. Work cannot let me have the leave plus quarantine so there goes my chance of seeing them. I'm devastated.

Kate3150 · 16/07/2021 20:54

@Sirzy- I agree, the changes are coming thick and fast now to travel. How are we supposed to keep up with them?
I keep thinking of all those who have been waiting to see family like yourself, it’s just unacceptable 💔

lljkk · 16/07/2021 20:54

ah, DS just booked some travel there. Bother for himself.

Kate3150 · 16/07/2021 20:55

@theotherfossilsister- sending you a massive virtual cuddle 💜

Iknowtheanswer · 16/07/2021 20:56

We cancelled our holiday earlier today, because I was just sick of the uncertainty (and it's only a holiday), but we've be arguing about whether it was the right decision ever since. I've just won the argument.

He is gutted. We were lucky she was here when it all kicked off so saw her March 2020 but not since. Normally we travel one way or the other at least every 8 weeks, with the tests we couldn’t afford to both go so got him booked and now that’s gone until who knows when, and there is no way we are the only ones.

Iknowtheanswer · 16/07/2021 20:57

#theotherfossilsister - that is just awful for you Flowers

Can't you go sick? I'm sure you would have already thought of that. I'm so sorry it's so shit for you. They have much less cases than Spain Sad
Kate3150 · 16/07/2021 21:00

It honestly brings tears to my eyes to think of all the families who will be devestated by this news. To some it’s holiday plans disrupted but for others it’s stopping families from reuniting after months and months apart. Just heartbreaking 💔

Panicmode1 · 16/07/2021 21:03

I'm in tears. We cancelled last year's holiday to celebrate my mother's 70th, rebooked for France immediately for this summer - and it's just been cancelled again. For NO good reason. Our rates are 15x higher than France's.

I HATE this useless government - it makes no sense at all, so there's obviously some political game playing going on - and we are all the poorer for it.

Oh theotherfossilsister I am so so sorry to hear this. We lost my Dad last summer to the same dreadful illness all made worse by covid limitations. Flowers for you and your family.
Panicmode1 · 16/07/2021 21:07

@theotherfossilsister I'm so sorry.

Apparently beta variant is having a big impact at the moment in France. So despite the uk has highest numbers , France has got a variant that is a threat to the uk hence why this movement.

Im sorry @theotherfossilsister, hope you managed to see your family soon

theotherfossilsister · 16/07/2021 21:10

Thank you so much all of you. It's so hard. Just on the phone to them now. If my Dad was well we could meet in Italy instead but he's not.

Do people think it will change by the autumn maybe?

I went off sick last year after another bereavement so I feel like I can't do that again

Apparently all my parents neighbours are refusing the vaccine. I am so so angry.

theotherfossilsister · 16/07/2021 21:12

Panicmod I'm sorry for your situation too xx

Watapalava · 16/07/2021 21:12

Yes it’s down to variants not cases

That’s why so many big case areas are still ok

It makes sense but awfully sad for those impacted

cooperage · 16/07/2021 21:16

It's the robust Beta variant related. France doesn't do much sequencing so it's not easy to know just how prevalent it is but it would seem that it's more rampant than the French want to admit (hence the strong-arm techniques they're using to get people to get vaccinated).

My guess is that Beta is a significant enough threat even to the vaccinated here (as AZ seems to be less effective against it than Pfizer) for the govt to be pretty keen to keep it out.

theotherfossilsister · 16/07/2021 21:16

I am so so sorry. Xx

Ugzbugz · 16/07/2021 21:17

Terrible, there's people moaning the pubs are opening etc and then wanting to travel but I totally get it, what on earth will be different next year? People being told to shield again, boosters for over 50s, more mutations?

How will the travel industry survive for holidays going forward.

Sorry to those in difficult situations 😪
