I was in the absolutely not wearing one past 19 July, but I think that’s not wholly sensible.

I’ll be carrying one around and use it as I see fit. So, on the park n ride, probably not as I’m usually on my own or there are a couple of others. Jammed on a train like cattle, yes I would. Not sure if I’ll wear it at work yet.

People without vaccine eventually will die from virus

I'm 100000% pro-vaccine but this is fucking ridiculous. Some people can't have the vaccine, or have an insufficient immune response to it - telling them they will die of covid is false, vile scaremongering.

Yes, this is unnecessary and vicious.

Agree, what a ridiculous and monstrous thing to say.

The ludicrous faux-catastrophising to suit the ‘just ditch all mitigations’ agenda by pretending there’s no long-term benefit to the mitigations is cynical and disgusting.

Nope and don't anyway

Whenthedealgoesdown · 16/07/2021 10:00

@superspreader10kids

Here is the reason/s I think it's pointless wearing masks.
 1. Masks, distancing, hand washing and isolation measures stop spread of virus, but can't be maintained for ever.
 2. Lifting of these measures allow virus to spread exponentially.
 3. The Vaccine does not kill virus, a person can still carry the virus but will not die from it only pass it on.
 4. People without vaccine eventually will die from virus.
 5. So everyone on earth will need to be vaccinated periodically, regularly for ever to protect from variants.
People can still die if they have the vaccine, people that don't have the vaccine will not all die, in fact if you are old and had the vaccine you will probably more likely to die than a young person that hasn't had it.
SugarbabyMilly · 16/07/2021 10:01

No, I'm double jabbed.

Florelei · 16/07/2021 10:54

@SugarbabyMilly

No, I'm double jabbed.
Genuine question (and I’m not being nasty - just curious) why does being double jabbed have any relevance to wearing a mask?
MyGardenSanctuary · 16/07/2021 11:15

I'd like to know when shops are going to remove the stupid footprints everywhere. No-one took any notice then, so definitely not now. Our local Argos has one seat. It is still taped off with signs all over it. It's the ludicrous overreaction that has made people questions the rules/guidance....

gardeninggirl68 · 16/07/2021 11:21

@MyGardenSanctuary I've seen you around the boards here and usually agree with most of what you say

The footprints weren't ludicrous.... businesses were all given covid audits regularly and strict measures had to be in place in order to operate. We were under threat of not being allowed to trade if we didn't comply and they Rick up randomly to check on us

It's been unfair on staff who had to implement and try to get the public to oblige. It's been hell for retail

gardeninggirl68 · 16/07/2021 11:22

Our stores are removing all lines on floor as soon as we can get contractors out to do it....not Argos employee btw!

JassyRadlett · 16/07/2021 11:26

Genuine question (and I’m not being nasty - just curious) why does being double jabbed have any relevance to wearing a mask?

Double jabbed people present a much lower risk to others, both in terms of likelihood of becoming infected (though lower prevention with delta for both AZ and Pfizer than for original or alpha) and in terms of likelihood of onwards transmission.

I think the CDC advice is that vaccinated people don’t need face coverings.

That said, delta is a fucker, cases are rising exponentially and despite having been double jabbed two months ago, I’ll keep wearing one in crowded places.

BoaCunstrictor · 16/07/2021 11:28

@TheVampiresWife

It will be. I will definitely judge non mask wearers as selfish idiots

How will you know they're not exempt? Actually, from Monday they won't be exempt because you can't be exempt from a law which doesn't exist. So I'll put it another way: How will you know they're not unable to wear a face covering?

@AntiMaskersAreTwats

TBF, being completely ignorant of the reason why a person isn't wearing a mask hasn't stopped a lot of people being arseholes about it over the past 12 months.
wonkylegs · 16/07/2021 11:30

Yes in crowds or busy inside places like shops.
Hospitalisations are rising rapidly in our area (DH is a hospital dr) - mainly the unvaccinated including teenagers in ICU and case numbers are very high here.
Just because we are bored with it and the government is playing popular politics doesn't mean it's not still an issue.
Vaccination is only part of the solution and wearing a mask is hardly that difficult for the vast majority of people and can make a difference so why wouldn't I do it.

AlfonsoTheMango · 16/07/2021 11:31

Yes. I don't like doing so but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 16/07/2021 11:47
@MrsArchchancellorRidcully but why did you bother to buy so weird 'card'

They mean nothing....nothing at all. You don't have to have any specific condition to be exempt you can just self declare and that is that. Nobody has a legal right to ask about it let alone ask for proof

Bit silly going to the lengths of buying cards
To avoid the bedwetters hassling me. The magic lanyard gives me special powers to keep them away!

It's bonkers isn't it, yes I do feel sorry for staff having to implement the craziness. I'm just preying that some day soon, rational thinking takes over

Is there actually any decisive evidence that mask wearing is beneficial? I thought the jury was still out.

MikeHat · 16/07/2021 12:55

Interesting tweet about a GP surgery who are making masks mandatory.
They seem to be implying that now that the legislation (which permitted exemptions ) is gone that they won't allow any exceptions.

No-ne has ever linked to peer reviewed research. It is all just ‘common-sense’ or ‘makes sense’ - public are woefully superstitious and under-educated in science. .

I don't think the juryb is out among scientists and public health experts.

This thread is very detailed on pros and cons of mask wearing. It covers the early assumtions, mistakes made, difficulty of RCTs and arguments that masks are themselves damaging.

I'd like to see what happens it they get challenged under disability discrimination act.

I have a family member with a lung condition. His oxygen levels are usually at a level where you'd be advised to go toA&E. he struggles to breathe without a mask- he has to make massive inhales of breath just to stay upright. When he wears a mask he can't take big enough breaths and literally can't stand up.
His consultant categorically banned him from wearing one.

MikeHat · 16/07/2021 14:33

Yes I wondered about that. I suppose the GPs are able to judge who is clinically unable to wear a mask and your relative would be excused.
I imagine they are trying to eliminate those who refuse on principle rather than those who cannot actually breathe.

Plenty of reasons for exemption other than inability to breathe.

Happily my GP understands this.
